pinx05 - 2015-05-18 9:05 AM FlyingJT - 2015-05-18 9:34 AM My grandfather had a fit that he didn't have any grandchildren named after him, his name is John Ray Smith, so my mother named me Johnna RayAnne. I always hated it growing up.... ย So did my dad, he wanted me to name my kid if it was a boy Bernice Aubrey (Aw-bray) after him... no thanks. I did however give my daughter his middle name, we say it (aw-bree) though. lol That is as good as he is going to get.
It took me a long time before I actually liked my name. I would say about 8th grade I started deciding that I liked not having to go by Ashley M. or little Amber. I was just me lol. My last name was horrid, so me being able to just go by my first name was a big plus!
My dadย didn't have any boys to carry on the family name...ย He always told usย are names was supposed to be Thaneetta...ย ย His and my grandpa's middle names are Thane. ย
ย My dad always told me I was going to be a 4th if I were a boy. He didn't have any boys either so now he is stuck trying to get everyone and their dog to name their kid with his name lol. |

Location: The barn...where else? SW Missouri | I was named after a mare my mom had growing up. She named her Jodie. She wanted to spell my name Jo Dee, but my dad didn't like it and wanted it to be Jodie. Everyone always spells it either Jody or Jodi. Lol. |

Location: Arkansas | My mom's name is Rita Carol, dad's name is Johnny Carroll, maternal grandfather was Cecil Carroll. When I was born, Momma wanted to name me Carol Lynn----her maiden name was Lynn. Pappaw Cecil said h-ll no, there were enough Carols!! So I got Debra Lynn----don't know where the "Debra" came from. I always hated "Debra".
I am an only child and so is my daddy, so when I got pregnant, my child was "Chandler" (my maiden name) whether girl or boy. I didn't want "Chandler" to end with me. My son is Christopher Chandler Thompson. Well, when I divorced, I went back to my maiden name. After that I had an acquaintance---who is now a very close friend---ask if my son's name was Chandler Chandler. . . . I told her no, I wasn't into the Sirhan Sirhan thing!!!! |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I named my youngest son after a family name that had been carried down for years. Pre Civil War as a last name and then became a middle or first name. Bates. My great uncle was killed in WWII and the name stopped there. So I started it up again with my son. To honor him. |

| I haven't met anyone with my first name spelled and pronounced like mine; Kyrstin (as in, kur-stin, not k-year-stin). I usually get Kristin the most, but I've gotten Christine before too. My mom said she liked the name Shasta (like the soda) and my grandmother wanted me to be named after her mother, Beulah Beatrice. I'm so thankful that the lady in the next delivery room also had a girl that day and named her Kristin. Mom liked that name, but wanted to make it her own.

Location: Middle TN | My mom named me Coty.. I've always loved it, but my teachers didn't like it when I was growing up I guess because I'm a girl and tried to get me to go by my middle name which is Bridgette. I'm not sure where she got either name but she just liked it lol |

| I have a pretty unique name, Jayden, and everyone tells me it's a guy name! My parents couldn't decide on a middle name so I have two! At least both middle names start with the same letter so I don't have weird innitials.
My dad got to name my brother and he isn't very creative, he had a dog named Jake when he was a kid, a bull named Jake in high school, and his beloved roping horse is Jake, so naturally he named my little brother "Jake"! |

| My mom never thought of names for a girl. After four girls, she just knew that the fifth child would be a boy. So when there was no name for me, the doctor named me after his two daughters. Thanks Ma. |

Location: Willows, CA | My name is Winton. The last name of my Dads best friend in the Air Force during WWII. That friend later married my Aunt and so became my uncle. I have been called Win by everyone but my very proper Grandmother for as long as I can remember. |

Location: Sunny So Cal | The first names in our family aren't anything special but what our parents liked. Our middle names are the interesting ones because they are last names from a previous generation or 2. Kind of keeps us all connected in a way. |

Location: In my own world | My dad named me. His is Danny and I am Dana. In general I haven't heard of many, although I am 1 of 3 Dana's in my family on my moms side. Middle name is LynnE, like my mom and now my daughter.
As far as kids, I wanted to name my daughter Luccetta (lu setta) but my husband did not agree! It is an old family name. Luccetta America actually. I wanted to name my son Rhyland Scott, Scott was my maiden name and Rhyland is a family name. He ended up being Thomas Lee. My daughter, who was 5 picked out Thomas when I was pregnant and insisted that would be his name. Lee is my husbands middle name. My daughter and I both have the middle initial L so I gave it to our son also even though I wanted to make it Scott |

Location: Minnesota | My name is Sterling. My dad named me after the town where I'm from; Sterling, Alaska. When I was growing up I didn't like it much. I was teased about having a different name. Kids can be so mean but as an adult I love it! I get compliments all the time about how pretty it is or they say they've never met a woman with that name, only men. |

Mine is Candess.ย theย Dess is after my great grandma whose name was Odessa.ย Myย middle name is Genevieve which is also after a great grandma.ย ย
People always spell my name wrong and sometimes I do because spell check doesn't recognize that spelling..ย :)
My 2 youngest sisters are Chalynn (Shal Lynn) Chardai (Shar Day)
The only normal name is my oldest sister which is Crystal. ย
Most spell checkers have an option to add a word they don't know. :) |

| My name is Claire, after my great grandma. Interestingly enough her and I both share a great love for shoes (you should see my closet!) One thing that bothers me is its a simple name and no one can spell it correctly they never use all of the vowels it always ends up being Clair, or Clare. |

On one of the poker sites I play on, I have a lady friend from Canada with your name.... You two are the only ones I've ever seen with it. |

Location: Nashvegas | My name is Erin, classic girl spelling. From the time my parents found my mom was pregnant with twins (1979 and two weeks before we were born, we were 2 months early), my dad was convinced two boys. Well, technology wasn't what it is now and they didn't know but it was one boy and one girl. The original plan was Wyatt (my brother) and I was to be named Aaron (after the great Hank Aaron, they didn't like Hank, so Aaron it was) and all that had to change quickly, so, since I am truly 75% Scott irish, Erin it was. :))))
BTW - I am a huge sports fan and daddy's girl...have been since birth.
