IowaCanChaser - 2015-05-28 11:04 AM One time I was doing chores in the barn, in the dark, and had to walk out to close the pasture gate, all of a sudden I heard a ton of coyotes really close by, and ran as fast as I could back to the barn. My horses were on edge and I had left my dog inside. I locked the doors, and shut my horses in their stalls, finally feeling safe. I went to grab some grain, and the lights flickered brighter then I'd ever seen them, then dark, and bright again, this went on for a few minuets all the while I'm freaking it trying to grain as fast as humanly possible. Then just like that it went black, and I automatically gab my phone, turn on the flashlight, and two seconds later it goes dead, and the battery wasn't even low. So here I am in a locked, pitch black barn full of freaked out horses, and coyotes outside. I ended up making a mad dash for the house and the power turned back on.

Wow that's spooky! I hear cyotes out in the neighboring fields and pastures around my barn. Thank God none of them have ever been close. I suppose I could tell the tale of my haunted house which I do believe I've told on here but what the hey I'll do it again for those who missed it.

When I was a sophomore in high school, my family moved into a 100 year old house while it's owners were in the peace corps. They wanted someone to house sit, we didn't want to buy a house at that time. The previous owner died while living there but I'm not sure if he died IN the house per say. Most of the house was the same as it had been for years, the exception being the downstairs bathroom that was attached to my bedroom (the other bedroom was upstairs and there was a loft/living space with a futon that was my sister's "room".) When we first moved in, my sister and I noticed shadows. Now, this wasn't just a case of kids freaking eachother out because we experienced these sightings independently and didn't even mention them until several months to a year later. Occasionally while walking we'd see something dark out of the corner of our eye, kind of like a cat running by very quickly and silently. The first time I actually thought it WAS a cat for a split second. But that was impossible. We had a big red golden retriever and a cockatiel. Neither could be mistaken for this. At first I wrote it off but after my sister telling me about seeing the SAME thing I got a little more spooked. I only stayed in my bedroom downstairs for maybe 3 nights. I felt so incredibly uneasy down there. I never saw anything but heard a ton of creaking outside my door all night long. Whether it was the house settling or something paranormal, I don't know, but I just got a BAD vibe from that room and the adjoining bathroom. Even getting dressed in the morning I didn't like having my back to the open space and would stand as close to the wall or closet as possible. I couldn't figure out why it was so creepy, but my mom (a non-believer in ghosts) rolled her eyes and told me to deal with it. I ended up sharing that futon upstairs with my sis.

All was calm for a few months. Aside from just feeling creeped out, nothing really happened. Then one day I was sitting on the toilet in that downstairs bathroom. There was a cabinet above it that was at LEAST 12" deep and 24" wide. There was a small basket made from a deer antler that was on top of the cabinet and always shoved way to the back of it. Well as I was doing my daily constitution, the thing slid forward off the cabinet and I heard the noise in time to react and throw my arm up to protect my head a little. I knew I didn't bump it but was definitely confused. When I was done I tried to recreate it. I tried hitting and shaking the cabinet, doing everything in my power to knock the basket off. It wouldn't budge.

There was another dry spell for several months. Then we had to remodel the kitchen. There was serious mold issues and the whole thing had to be redone. Not only was this a huge inconvenience, but activity in the house picked up. The basket fell on my sister's head while she was on the toilet the same way it fell on me. I found my mom's underware wadded up and stuffed behind my sink. Which is SUPER weird because our house is always spotless and she NEVER leaves her clothes around. One afternoon I was straightening my hair and I felt a hard tap right on the top of my head. I was standing right in front of the mirror and didn't see anything land on me but I assumed it was a bug. I'm terrified of bugs so I frantically searched my head, my body, the sink, the floor, everywhere for anything that could possibly have hit me on the head. I'm 5'11" so it's not like there's a lot of space for things to be landing on top of my head. When I couldn't find any explanation I BOLTED. I try not to show fear but that time my flight instinct took over and I ran. After that my sister and I were afraid to be down there alone. When we took showers we'd take turns sitting in the bathroom while the other showered.

I also had my shirt tugged. I was standing in the middle of my loft, alone, away from anything to get my shirt stuck on. It was a loose fitting tee and I felt just a light tug on it on my back. Once while laying on my parents' bed all alone, my sister had a piece of hair picked up and tugged on. She said she saw it move out of the corner of here eye. There was one other occurence that was terrifying, but I couldn't confirm if it was paranormal or not. I was laying in bed and it was about 1:30am. Everyone was asleep but me. All of a sudden the handle of the front door started shaking. It one that's kinda shaped like this: and it was just shaking so hard I thought it would break. I don't know if that was paranormal or if it was someone outside but I heard it and froze with fear. Oh also, the doorbell would ring by its self ALL THE TIME. I don't know what caused that either but it drove me nuts.

I guess this might be a ghost story...

I was in the barn feeding around 7:00 one evening. No body was around at the time. It was winter time so it got dark very early. I live with my fiance on his family's property. The barn is super old (20+) years, and there is no electricity. My horses stall/paddock was toward the end of the barn. I had my dog following me along with about 5 kittens. There is an empty box stall right before my horse's & the door is not attached, it was just leaning up against the stall. I gave my horse her grain, locked the stall door when suddenly the empty box stall door (next to my horse) falls over and lands on one of the kittens and hits my dog. There was NO possible explanation that could have just knocked the door over backwards. It was leaning the wrong direction, was very heavy wood & there was no wind.
The kitten was fine, his leg was a bit messed up for a while. But according to my fiances family, there is an older relative haunting the land.

Hmmmm, I've got several! For several years I had so many experiences in so many different locations that I was determined that I had some form of "spirit" with me constantly

My parents bought an older fixer upper house when I was 6-7 years old and gradually did SERIOUS renovations. Upon, deconstructing several areas of the home, they found lots of strange things "Hidden" in crevices and under the floors, in the walls, etc. The creepiest thing being tape recorders. Their first thought was that maybe the person who lived there before was a creeper and liked to listen in on his/her family. Then things started happening, tools being moved only moments after they were set down, drawers opening and closing, cabinets opening and closing. My mom started to believe that maybe the tape recorders had been put there for other reasons!

As the years went by we found out interesting things about the property, apparently there had been 4 houses in various locations and each and every house had been burned down and all family members were said to have died in the fires. Other than the events mentioned above everything stayed fairly calm until I was 13. I had just gotten home from having a complete thyroidectomy and was sleeping in my parents room so they could keep a better eye on me. I had begged to stay in my own room that night but they didnt want me upstairs where they may not hear me if I needed them. As we sat and watched TV my mom caught a glimmer out the patio door and told my dad to go check and see if someone was in the driveway.. the next thing I knew my parents were gathering us all together and sending us kids to the neighbors, about a half mile away. Our garage/barn was on fire and with it being only about 30 feet from the house they were concerned that the house would also ignite. Fortunately, the house was fine other than some damage from flames on the siding and some things on the interior melted from the heat but only downstairs were things melted. Now the scary part was that when we went back up to my room, the window was open (which it had no reason to be, due to me not even sleeping there) and where the smoke and ashes had blown in everything was covered except 2 handprints a little bigger than mine at the time on the mirror above my dresser (higher than I could even reach) plus none of the ashes on the floor had an sort of foot prints.. So that was creepy. Also the garage/barn fire cause was undetermined.

Awhile later, I was maybe 15-16 I was laying in my bedroom, watching American Idol when I had the urge to look over to my window.. it was foggy and had condensation on it and as I looked and began to look away a handprint formed on it, a large handprint and completely transparent. I was petrified. I got up to go get my parents and that the last thing I remembered. I woke up at the hospital. Apparently I had stopped breathing and my parents heard me fall. My mom performed CPR and they called for an ambulance. I didn't remember the hand event until a few days later. The doctors never could find any reason for me to fall and stop breathing and just brushed it off as me being a dramatic teenager.. I was like yeah sure American Idol was so suspenseful..

Fast forward a few years, I had moved out and the house I was living in with a friend creeped me out from the moment I stepped in to it. My friend being a major hunter had several mounted deer heads, a mounted mountian lion and a mink? I think thats what he said it was.. looked like a weasel lol. Anyways, one day we had gone to the grocery store and came home and found one of the deer heads had literally fallen straight down, smashing a glass dog figurine to smithereens, like tiny shards of glass spread over two rooms.. It seemed strane because the deer head wouldve logically fallen forwards I would think, plus there was no reason for it to fall anyways. Also, two pictures had fallen, in two different rooms. The first was a store bought decor picture in the kitchen of some cows in a pasture, we found it face up 10 feet away from where it fell and not a break anywhere on it. The other was my friends family picture of him and his siblings.. it was pretty old. The frame actually remained on the wall but the middle picture was found on the floor under the picture. No reason for just one picture to fall out.. the picture happened to be his brother who had just had a car accident and was in ICU.. he did recover and is fine now but nonetheless it creeped us out. There were other things seen and things happened there that I wont even get into on here because I don't even want to remember them much less document them.

That's really all I can do right now lol. I'm seriously on edge just recalling these instances.

It was a deceivingly creepy place, that's for sure. It was a beautiful, well kept home but gosh you just never wanted to be alone in there. We nicknamed the ghost "Paul the Poltergeist" and would talk to him like "Paul I'm coming upstairs you better leave me alone!" Not sure how effective it was but it helped keep my sister (who was 8 or 9 when we moved in) from totally freaking out.

I have a good ghost story. :)

This is actually probably my very first memory, I couldn've been more than 3. My sister wasn't even thought of yet and she was born 2 months before I turned 5 (just a bit of time line for perspective). My great grandmother had had a stroke so we all loaded up and went to KY to be with family. She lived in an old farm house that had several bedrooms. I don't remember why, but it was all of us girls there at the house. My mom, her oldest sister, 2 or 3 of moms first cousins, my grandmother, 2 of her sisters, and my great grandma's house keeper. All women.
I slept with my aunt that night and I woke up scared, looking for my momma. I walked from room to room, being quiet, trying to find my momma. I remember being cold and scared, I sat in front of the fire place and cried to myself.
An older man with a big beard said "your mommas upstairs honey" and he opened the door to the stairs. I couldn't reach the knob standing on my tippy toes. I remember having to use my hands and feet to get to the top, my legs were to short to just walk up them.
I found momma and crawled in bed with her.
The next morning at breakfast, I was sitting in momma's lap eating cereal, when momma asked me how I got the door to the stairs open. I told her the man opened the door and let me in. Momma said 'what man?', I told her the man in the big picture with the beard. I think everyone in the room about had a stroke then. There was a big picture of my great grandfather hanging in the kitchen, with his big beard. He had died when my mom was a teenager.

He had died when my mom was a teenager.

seriously? I don't believe in ghosts, never have. But then I wonder how to explain things like that...

Not making it up, I swear. Obviously it doesn't look the same in my minds eye now, it's been so very long ago. I remember my mom asking my aunt if her husband had came by after he got off work, she said he didn't. Plus I knew my Uncle. I would've called him by name.

Whether it makes any difference or not, my great grandfather did die in that house.

I have a few to share, but they aren't mine personally - just stories from our area that I have heard folks tell over the years. We live on the Oregon Coast, prime Sasquatch territory: BIG timber, dense underbrush, dark and wet landscape. If something lived in these forests up here and didn't want to be found - it wouldn't be.

1. A man named Jap Yoakum worked as a timber faller (logger, who cut down trees for a living). He was a VERY large man, and was married to a VERY small Native American woman. One day he was running late home from work in the woods and it got dark on him, and he claims to have seen something in the woods that night. From that night on, he NEVER went outside after dark. Not at night, not in the morning, not at all. If it happened to be dark when they arrived home from town, he would stay in the truck with the lights on, and send his wife into the house to unlock the door and turn all the lights on. He wouldn't go out to milk the cow until the sun came up, he WOULD NOT go outside. He never would speak of exactly what he saw, be it Sasquatch or a ghost or something else. Jap was a very large, tough man who worked in the woods his entire life, so for his habits to suddenly change and be riddled with that much fear; really struck a nerve with the community.

2. A man named Dude Edwards was riding around with his father in a pickup and they came across a well-known timber faller walking down the road with his saw over his shoulder. When they stopped to ask him what was going on, he replied with "I'm never setting another ****ed foot in those f'ing woods after the SOB I saw in there today."

3. A man named George Edwards (Dude's brother) was moving a dozer down the middle of a ridge on a perfectly calm day without a breath of wind. Halfway up the ridge he looked over towards the old settler cemetery that had a single tree in the middle of it (with other trees nearby on the outside of the cemetery). He says that without any trace of wind in the area at all, that single tree was blowing around and nearly bent like in a gale.

All three of those stories took place within like a ten mile radius in an area that is generally regarded as a creepy place. Some people think there are old Indian graveyards up that ridge, some people swear that that is where Sasquatch is hiding. My husband was engaged to a girl whose family lives up that ridge and her father has done EXTENSIVE farming on their property: dozing huge swathes of land, disturbing everything... Anyways, he has some sort of undiagnosed chronic illness that just makes him feel like absolute crap all the time - EXCEPT when he isn't on the ridge. He regularly goes to various other areas where he has vacation homes and after being at ANY of those places will feel better within a few days. As soon as he gets back home to Oregon, he is sick within days. My husband thinks that he built the family house on some sort of Indian spiritual site.

I am a firm believer in Sasquatch. After living up here, and hunting up here, I don't see how anybody living near the woods of the Pacific Northwest couldn't.

When my niece was in jr rodeo I would talk my sister through the trip.  They left after work so it was dark as she tried to find arenas she hadn't been too.  One trip she was coming on to an intersection and I don't know why but I said people run that light watch out.  She did slow down and sure enough someone ran the light.  If she hadn't slowed down she would have been killed.  Only a mile later I suddenly said stop, don't know why, and two black dogs ran across the road, she would have killed them is she hadn't stopped.  This happened many times as she was traveling.  I would get a feeling and blurt out an instruction and she would follow it and something would have gone wrong if she hadn't.

Premonition is an interesting thing, it is a gift and sometimes a curse.  I saw my brother's car crash as clear as day.  I was talking to my sister and suddenly I saw a car coming straight head on.  I told my sister about it at the time and then it was gone.  I called everyone in my family but no one was traveling.  Three days later my #2 brother unexpectionaly decided to go to a stock car race.  I got the call at 1am that he had been in a very serious wreck.  It was a nightmare after that.  Being given my brother's bloody helmet and twisted glasses is something I will never forget and will always regret that I couldn't stop what happened.  But my brother lived, so all is good, but I hate seeing glimpses of the future that you can't change.

Remember the movie 'Jaws'?
I went to see that at the theater when it came out. I went with my sister and her bou...
When that diver went down to check out the sunken boat and was looking at the hole in the hull.... and the head rolled down....
My sister is one of the MOST level headed people I know... Been in the Navy and works in a hospital as a lab tech... 8 years older than I am...
When the head rolled down into view.... she let out a sound I'd never heard before... (or since)... and the $3.50 bucket of popcorn went flying... Now..... in 1975.. $3.50 was a lot of money...... and..... that's why we don't let her hold the popcorn anymore......

The vet bill was pretty scary too! Never want to experience that ever again!! So glad he's okay though, glad we caught it early! Scary Scary!

I've got a new one. Not necessarily ghosts but it was pretty spooky. To set the scene, I have a big barn with an indoor and all that and there's a run of like 11 pens facing the barn just west of it. There's a gravel walkway and since grassy space between the runs and the barn.

So I get out there this morning and I see that the gate to the pen between my 2 horses' and another gate about 4 down from that are SMASHED and one is completely off its hinge. Come to find out, some time between 10 and 4 am something ran through between the barn and the pens and scared 2 of the horses so bad they tried to jump their gates. They escaped and were found grazing in the yard. One was just a yearling and he was a little bruised up and stiff but overall they were ok. The weird thing is, my BO checked the security cameras and couldn't find anything on there that would scare the horses that badly. Even mine had hardly touched their hay and were acting pretty tired today. We speculated that it might have been a mountain lion, cyotee, Bigfoot, or a ghost.

I have the premonition thing too, only mine is in dreams, not when I'm awake.
