I fall of the wagon a little bit every now and then. I really try to eat healthy. I try to stick to salads and soups or changing out my sides at resturants for a side salad and vegetables. Portion control is my biggest problem and the fact that I love cheese and pasta and bread! I have switched to drinking more water and away from sodas and teas.  I also ride without stirrups everyday to help burn a few more calories. I always try to stay busy otherwise I tend to gravitate towards food. When I'm bored, I eat. When I'm sad, I eat. When I'm happy, I eat. I also rarely eat sugar and instead will eat dates as my sweet treat. Like right now I had lost 10lbs and then I got on the scale yesterday and gained 3lbs. So now it's another 3lbs I have to lose again. Good Luck! Loved reading everyone else's success stories!

I have lost 34 lbs since January 21st! I want to lose 6 more. I have been doing Plexus. It was a life changer for me. Now that I feel better I want to do things and exercise! No more afternoons on the couch for me. I am riding better and I feel amazing!

A HUGE CONGRATS to all of you for your success!!  My hubby and I have maintained our 80 pound loss for 5 years this year!  I became a Certified Health Coach after our loss to pay it forward and help others. The key is learning to make the changes to keep it off once you lose it.  Sadly, many lose it but then gain it back along with more.   Message me if you are interested.  Have had several BHW success stories

OutlawsLastDance - 2015-06-03 12:44 PM Wow! Great weight loss for you all! I decided around the end of April that I wanted to be down 20lbs by June 20th for my husband's family reunion. I started about 165 and got down to 151. Then I went on a weekend vacation and gained 4 back, so so far I'm down about 10lbs, with 10 more and just over 2 weeks to go. I should loose the weight quick that I put back on, hopefully pretty quickly. As long as I break the 150 mark I'll be happy. After the reunion, I'd like to continue and make it to 135, so a total of 30lbs. I have been using myfitnesspal to track my food, keeping to a 1200 calorie diet. I log everything, so I'm held accountable for making bad food choices. If I want a burger at lunch, I only have enough calories left for a salad at night and I stick to it. I have also started carrying my phone with me when I ride to get some calorie credit for moving. Basically, because of "calorie counting" I've cut out soda, (even though I always drank diet, I swear the carbonation weighs more or something!) stopped using creamer in my coffee, and have been eating a lot more greek yogurt, fruits and veggies. I'm glad summer is here to help me stop craving the smell of sweets and carbs baking in my oven all day. I'm hoping to find a good grilled salmon recipe too!

Here you go:

spread margarine lightly on your salmon, then spread fat free sour cream over that, sliced onion, sliced lemon, pepper, and seasoning salt.  Grill skin side down until salmon is flaky - BEST. RECIPE. EVER.

Thank you! I'll have to try that!

Good job everyone! I lost 40 lbs last year and gained it all back over the winter. I cut waaaay back on my sugar/processed foods almost 2 weeks ago and am down about 5 lbs. Of course I have like 120 more to go. My knees feel the best they have in a long time. The hardest thing is portion control. By the time I get out of work I'm so hungry I just devour everything in sight! Also trying to do more yoga, waking the dogs, barn chores, and I should finally be able to start riding my horse again this month so all that should help too.

Great stories here ... I, too, am continuing down this path ... again. I lost 60 pounds several years ago and kept it off for a few years but then stopped working out faithfully ... then quit altogether. Eating habits went to the wayside and put about 30 back on..ugh. In January, I rejoined the gym and signed up for a program using the treadmill. Taking the class two times a week was good but it didn't help solidify the habit of getting back. Eight weeks ago, I signed up for another program that had strength training with a trainer two times a week, but this time, I committed to doing classes the other three days ...I was evaluated (measurements and body fat)...in six weeks, I lost a total of 10 inches, 3% body fat and 10 lbs. I am eating better as well and enjoying doing something for me for the one hour a day .... I still have a ways to go, but I'm back on track and enjoying it. I also use the Sworkit app on the weekends..it's a great tool to have at home...continued success for everyone here as well...at 54 it just doesn't come off as easy:)

4 or 5 years ago I hit the gym and lost 40 pounds, I had just started riding and knew I needed to be in better shape.  Went through menopause, same diet and exercise but gained 10 pounds, makes me mad, lol.  I stayed there for 6 months and am just now starting to lose it, cleaned up my diet a little more.  My ideal weight for me is 160, which is what I was at in my avatar.  I did a fitness test and they said I should get down to 150.  I can stay at 160 and have a few goodies every now and then but to stay at 150  is a real battle and when I initially lost my weight I told myself I was not going to beat myself up over 10 or 15 more pounds.  I think I look and feel just fine at 160 :).

Great job to everyone in your weight loss and better health journey!

Since March 20th, I have lost 45 lbs. Still have a ways to go to my goal weight, but am working hard to get there. I feel so much better about my riding, and my confidence has sky rocketed. Cut out bread and sugar, fried foods, and cokes. Eat dense proteins first, and then veggies. All about portion control.

My friend finally came up with a term for my habits of working out- I "binge" workout. I'll go hard for 1-2 weeks, slack off for a week, go hard, slack off, repeat. I need to lose weight but ultimately right now, I'm going for strength. I'm having my 4th knee surgery in September and want to be at my peak for strength before I go in.... so since Jan, I have lost 1-2 pant sizes but I've gained 6-7 pounds (I keep telling myself its muscle lol) and haven't changed a thing in my diet. I've definitely noticed I've really put muscle on in my quads and my guy friends tell my a** looks better LOL.

I started doing cardio last week and will hopefully keep it up because before now, I've just been lifting heavy.

What I also like ( not grilled tho...) is get tinfoil and slice carrots and leeks. I'll put a bit of dill butter on it then put a filet of salmon on top the the veggies and season that however. Put another thing of tinfoil on top and close the edges. I bake that @ 350 for about 20-30 minutes... Sooooo delicous!!

Good blog.  I never counted calories or "dieted" either- just ate whole food.  I do work out as I think it helps my metablolism plus I feel better when I work out.  I have my resting heart rate down to 51 :).

I have always been a curvy cowgirl and tried everything out there. Shakes, pills, meal plans, wraps, you name it and I've probably tried it.

I have finally found what works for my household. The scale and microwave have officially been booted! I was always so focused on what the scale said. Every day I would weigh myself and everyday it would destroy my confidence. Do I know how much I weigh? Nope! And honestly it doesn't matter. I think we use that number to compare ourselves to others.
And while I thought I was doing myself a favor by eating the "diet" microwaveable meals I didn't realize how much sugar, carbs, processed crap that was in it. So...no more microwave. Few weeks after the microwave and scale was trashed my bat wings, belly and thighs started to disappear as well. :)

Some other advice is to look into comparable taste substitutes. I thought I couldn't live without bread, cheese and desert but I have found healthier choices that still satisfy my cravings. If you need ideas please don't hesitate to ask!

I lost 25 lbs. when my son wanted to start gaining weight.  He got an App called MyPlate and I started using it.  It was the difference maker for me.  Now I am eating better and running 4 miles a day everyday.  I feel awesome!!

in 2010 I weighed 243lbs and wore a size 22. I had a very stressfull job that I got laid off from June of that year. (Blessing in disguise.) To afford to work off my rent I cleaned all the stalls for the landlord, and for spending cash I went next door to groom and work horses for the lady next door to us. When I had nothing to do I decided to try to go running on our trails. "Running" consisted of jogging for 30 seconds and then catching my breath. Once I caught my breath I would run again. Pretty soon I was good for about 5 miles total. I lost 75 lbs and went down to a size 8. Then I got hired at my current job in June of 2011. I continued to run, but we like potlucks here and I put on about 15 lbs. Then I lost the 15 lbs. Then gained it. I had lost 10 of it again when I got pregnant last year and put on 25. To this day I have lost 35lbs and have a futurity colt that I am bound and determined to run myself. I want to lose 80lbs total by 2017. My goal is to lose 8 lbs every 3 months so that its not a "huge" deal. I had started eating Paleo, but since I have a very painful complication from pregnancy I have had to switch to a high fiber diet. Which I guess works because I still eat pretty clean and stay away from junk. I know I don't NEED to be 112 lbs, but for the futurity I feel like I do to be a jockey. If I am a lean, mean 125lbs, great, but I also want to let my horse have all that chance to win and I don't want my weight to affect him. Congrats to everyone for your achievements...it's a hard roller coaster of a road!

Not sure, to be honest how much I've lost. I'm guessing over 10. I just know I'm wearing jeans I couldn't get into last year. I'd like to loose another 10 but not stressing about it.
My secret - quitting my day desk job and the 2 hours of commuting to said job. I got rid of the stress from the job and now that I'm home full time I'm outside helping on the farm, riding 1-3 horses a day and not eating all the crappy junk food I was eating working in the city. I'm not counting calories, just eating good homecooked meals, and staying active. And as I said getting rid of the stress from my day job I think was a huge factor.
