Cowboy Magic Detangle and Shine. That is all I ever use for manes and tails at shows or at home. Amazing stuff.

We have a paint that has a mane to his shoulders, and it absolutely ties in knots somehow. Or swirls into what looks like dreadlocks. I SOAK it in Cowboy Magic and leave overnight. The next day I put more on and it usually combs right out. Hope something works for you without having to cut it out.

I use Johnson and Johnson No More Tangles. It works really good and less expensive then horse products.
