Location: Red Raiderland | We had a different guy build the barn than the shop and it is evident. Huddle Steel built the shop. The shop builder did an excellent job the barn builder, ehhh. We put the spray insulation at the top and it seems to do a great job in the cold months but the hot months there is little to no breeze because the barn is blocked by trees to the northwest. Gets a bit toasty. Fans definitely needed! |

Well, if nothing else it should keep any lightening away from your barn. |

| My barn or barns are those carports with stalls. I spent my money paying for my place, house etc. The land next to me came up in a tax sale so bought it and paid cash. I decided if I can pay cash for it, I don't need it. I have a carport with stalls in each pasture. Very economical, functional, attractive and paid for just not too showy. |

I didn't "need" my barn either, but I'm sure glad to have it. I did finance mine as it was thousands of dollars. I couldn't pay cash for my house either, so that's financed as well. I think if someone can make the payment and still be able to buy what they need to live, then why not. Life is too short to want things, so I financed my barn lol! |

 I Want a "MAN"

The barn where we live was not built by people who spend a lot of time at the barn. It's like a prison for horses. I want stalls with windows along the back that can be blocked in the winter time and full free flow air fronts. I want them to be able to see each other and to be able to put their heads out.
What does this mean and why is it necessary? |

If you have bars on the front, they can be made with drop down sections so the horse can hang their head out. I used gates for this. |

Can't you use a Dutch door for that? |

You can use anything you want to accomplish it. The point was the horses should have the option to interact with people and each other instead of being in jail. And I have seen plenty of barns that don't have this option built in. |

| Your barn is very nice and I was not running it down. I pay for everything myself their is not a "we". What I have works best for me. I don't have anything that is fancy |

THIS!
My barn thankfully has windows out the back, but the stall doors into the barn are solid with rebar in the whole. The walls between the stalls are ceiling height. The only way my horses can see/talk to each other is out the back windows (which they usually do) or across the aisle if someone is over there. It's not my barn, or I'd take a hack saw to the walls between and cut out windows. |

I have my dream barn in my head to build one day and retire this one to storage because it isn't really the idea set up... It was great for dairy cows back in the day with my great grandpa built it not so much for horses......

Location: MD | my chromebook dislikes posting pictures here. but our barn is a large morton building and extra tall with an extra wide aisle. you can drive a truck through it if you're careful.. great in the winter but the barn is so loud when it's windy, there's nowhere for the air to go since the barn is very long and only doors on two sides (15ish stalls long) fans are necessary in the summer. Make sure you can make a cross breeze happen otherwise it's like a darn hotbox! also the ability for your horses to get their heads out, see each other and see what's going on is really great.
If I had it my way, my horses would have windows for the outside that you can close in the cold of the winter. and the fans that are meant for barns. box fans aren't as productive as I like and the dangerous factor is a little scary. Can't wait for the opportunity to build my own. |

Thanks HorsesNHarleys and FlyingJT! I love our old barn but I dont have some of the amenities that a "new" barn would have.... Like running water. We did upgrade to an electric pump for the outside cistern (fancy, I know). |
