Love Doc Olena

so are these "great" horses too far back to have an influence?

like I said I couldn't find any info on her actual dam and sire.....

My mare is Doc Olena / OTMR.  She's 10 and I've had her for 3 years. I can't even begin to express how much try she has. She is incredibly willing and genuinely wants to please. That says so much about a horse in my opinion. She is a bit finicky and prefers to just be left alone during a run. She does NOT appreciate when I try to help lol. But that could be the OTMR coming out in her. They are quirky horses anyway. As far as late bloomers, this mare was clocking 2D/3D times as a 3 year old with her previous owner so I would say they arent late to bloom. Mine rarely gets into trouble. She is typically very serious minded. Doesnt play or do anything silly. As far as holding up, she has not had any soundness issues whatsoever. She is finer boned than I would prefer but as of now, I havent seen anything negative from it. (knock on wood)

This is mine when I first got her. She was 7.

theres no picture.....

Hmm I tried again. Maybe it'll show up this time in my original post.

IME - Doc O Lena's are fantastic horses. I have 2 and love them. One is 14 and the other is 9. They both have held up extremely well. They are both incredibly smart. Show them one time, and they've got it, it seems. You can't pick on them either. Very much the "they know their job, let them do it" types. Mine were not late bloomers. Very mature, sane minded from the time I got on them as 2.5 year olds.

My 9 yr old is a nosy nellie. She gets into everything and wants to follow me around the pasture when we are working on fence. She has a jolly ball and hanging ball in her stall.

yes my horses have large stalls, 12x16 and they both have jolly balls lol...

I just don't want to "mess" her up, since I have never owned a horse bred like this, just wanted to get as much info as I could to help me help her be the best she can be.....

when we ride, we spend lots of time backing up, backing up and down the large drainage ditches, long trotting the huge pastures, practicing transitions in speed w the change of my body position....

I feel that she is broke and responsive enuff to start adding some speed on the patterns....

my original plan was, if she was super quiet and level headed I was going to give her to my kids for their 4h all around horse (performance and speed)

Love, Love, Love the Doc O Lena and Playguns both. Runningbay has my mare now that I trained that is pictured and she was tough and gritty since day one. A little opinionated but very sweet. I've had several other doc o Lena's and always try to buy horses with that bloodline. I've found them to be very smart, athletic, fast and willing. The playguns are also very athletic and quick but the few I have had have been a little slower growing mentaly and physically, but I still loved them. I think you have a really nice filly!

I have a four year old Playgun granddaughter (Fiestas Gotta Gun daughter). She's the sweetest horse I've ever been around. Greets me at the fence and follows me around like a lost puppy. She acts like an old rodeo veteran... she hauls like a pro and stands tied as long as I need her to. Can't comment much else about her other than she's at the trainer and she says she's "very trainable".

FluinByU how long do ur horses take to get going on the pattern?

granted I live down here in southern texas, and we just got 8+ inches of rain..... so will have to haul to be able to ride until it dries....
