ThreeCorners - 2015-10-30 8:27 AM  We lost one of the best horses we have ever owned last week. She was just 6. She started with a temp of 102.3 on monday. Vet saw her on monday. Temp hung around 102 untill wed. Wed she was in the hosp. and it spiked at 105 wednesday. She died on saturday, the whole time in the hosp in critical care, on IV's, many meds and even did plasma. Please dont ignore a temp. Horses dont run temps for no reason.

Not to take over OPs thread but I am so sorry Threecorners I don't know you or your daughter but I run at her races.  May was a great mare.

So sorry for your loss. I agree put a call in to your trusted vet and go from there. Better to be overly cautious in my opinion.

I agree. Horses are very fragile. They can be fine one minute and deathly ill in an hour. My broodmare wasn't feeling well, took her temp. It was 104. Rushed her to the vet. She had pneumonia. Vet said any longer and it would have been critical because she was bred.

Sorry guys just saw this again! She is great and was fine actually that night! Vet came out one more time and gave her one more shot but is confident it was from those darn deer ticks! It's been raining here so everyone's temps been a little low and she probably already has a low temp :) Blood work was also normal, red blood cells were a little high but thats from whatver she has, caught it in time though!
