brlraceaddict - 2015-11-05 12:20 PM I missed the first hour.  Doesn't sound like I missed much.  I miss the days of Wrangler jeans and classy dresses, and the steel guitar.  I think this officially means I am old.  I had no idea who Chris Stapleton was.  And I thought Miranda looked very sad last night.

My thoughts exactly!

BigStarBound - 2015-11-05 11:53 AM So aside from the Blake & Miranda topic... How did everyone feel about last night's award show? And, am I the only person that was like.. WHO is this Chris Stapleton guy and HOW did he just beat out Sam Hunt for new artist?! I listen to country radio all the time... How did I not know about him? He sure put on an amazing show with Justin Timberlake though, and I bet he is going to do big things! I know his name now, that's for sure! Brad & Carrie are amazing together.. I love that they host this every year now. Loved Little Jimmy Dicken's one last laugh, too.
I had heard about Stapleton for a while but didn't know much about him. He was one of the warm up bands at the Big O Fest on Ownesboro, Ky this past August. We always go to that and get a VIP table. The headliner this year was Jake Owen with Travis Tritt on right before him.

Chris Stapleton was on at around 4:oo in the afternoon. Our friends wanted to go out there and see him as they kept talking about how he should be the headliner. OK, whatever! We went. Well they were right. He stole the show that day.

The Traveler CD is one of the best I've ever heard. Every somg. Not just the title track. Fire Away, Was it 26, Nobody to Blame, Daddy Stopped Praying, etc. Fantastic!!

I've been a David Alan Coe fan for 40 years. This is about as close as it gets to DAC.  I'm so glad he got his due recognition.

Β Love Chris Stapleton. I've loved him since he was the lead singer for The Steeldrivers years ago. He has written or co-written a lot of songs for other people. Radio just won't play him. They are not getting paid big bucks to push his records. They think everyone wants to listen to people like Sam Hunt. I do not want to listen to Sam Hunt. Radio drives me crazy. Some of the most talented never get air play. I like Justin Timberlake. I would like to see them put Merle Haggard and some of the older greats on there before they all die. They need to be honored and heard.

Houston radio drives me nuts, it seem like they play the same 30 songs over and over again. I listen to outlaw country on satellite and some old country.

Same in Oklahoma. I think it is pretty much everywhere. It is marketing and money. They get paid to play certain people I guess. On the way to work someone called into a radio station asking why they never play Chris Stapleton, but play people like Sam Hunt all the time. They wouldn't answer. They just said well you've heard us play songs that were written by Chris Stapleton. The caller said, but that isn't him singing...... I want to hear him sing. Their response was a laugh and thank you for calling. They can't come out on the air and tell the real truth. ....politics of music, marketing, money, & demographics. They think only young 21 year old people are their audience. Of course there is a huge group of people paying money for crap music because they love only that. I mean one song in country radio says...."hey girl whassup in it". Really? Heck I could write most of the lame stuff on radio & then repeat it 20 times in the song. LOL

Just tossing this out there - if you want to hear artists like Chris Stapleton - there's an app for your phone under 95.9 The Ranch out of Fort Worth.Β  It's the only country station I'll listen to.....there will be no top 40 crap to suffer thru. Β

So, FYI I think we could travel well together... No fighting over radio stations! Lol!!

I have a question for you North Texans. I was in Paris a couple times earlier this year and there was a red dirt/Texas country station that played a lot of good music (actually the first time I had ever heard Kyle Park on the radio in a long, long time)...... What station was that??? Could it have been this one or is that too far of a reach?

Love Chris Stapleton. I became a fan the first time I heard "What Are You Listening To". I hope he has continued success and keeps putting out great country music!!!

Folks, if hearing Chris Stapleton for the first time was the highlight of the CMA's for you...do yourself a favor and stop rotting your brain with modern mainstream country radio. Instead, start listening to Texas/Red Dirt country. You'll discover lots of soulful sounds, inspiring lyrics and a lot of singer songwriters...good stuff you just don't get much of these days with the prepackaged Nashville sounds.

My son is 17, and he is a true diehard fan (and student) of old country. And I mean OLD!! After the CMA show, I asked him who in the world this Stapleton guy was. . . . He said he's DAC back in circulation!!!! I had to think hard who that was; a shame my baby knows more than I do.

I only listen to country music radio stations and always get a little upset when they play the new Taylor Swift music that even SHE says in not country.  THEN DON'T PLAY IT.  Geez.  But I do have to admit that I like Sam Hunt.  It is not country, but I like it.  I liked it before I even know who he was.

i loved brad paisleys song... but im kinda a huge brad fan.... never could swing to kennys ship lol
i thought the ruff year showed in mirandaΒ  :(
i was like who is chris stapelton but he brought down the house with JT
i alsoΒ observed that the show itsself was very repsectful of the miranda and blake split.Β  there was no audiance panning of them until the end when they were running for awards.Β  Β

I like Brad but WHO shapes his hats??? OMG - that drives me INSANE (and yes, it's a short trip). They all look like he sat on them!

Oh lord...you nailed it. I heard that and just flipped the dial. There isn't a Dirt Road Country station within range here sadly.

We tuned in to the CMA's a bit late....right when that black and white background and goofy Robert Plant looking girl dancers were hopping around while some guy sang something that sounded like the theme to the Meunsters? WTH was that?! Changed the channel. NOT Country.

Haha! Those table at Ellis aren't hard to come by nor are they expensive. Something like $8 per table with a something like $15 per person minimum. A cuple large beers knock that out. You just gotta get them early.

Different story on the Big O Fest VIP tickets. Not really hard to get but they are expensive. $125/person in advance. And if you are going with friends and want to be sure you sit at the same table then it's a minimum buy of 8 tickets. $1000 bucks!! Plus a $60 service charge.  And you have to buy them before the headliner is announced. Well, you don't have to but on times like last year when Hank, Jr was the headliner you can't get VIP tickets after the announcement because they are gone if you wait more than a day. This year with Luke Bryan as the headliner you get VIP tickets the day of the show. I think they were $150 each then?

We have the same group of 8 that goes every year so we just buy a table when they go on sale and take our chances. You gotta make hotel reservations 6 to 8 months in advance anyway. General admission is $35. But having a table under the tent with stage access and your own bar and bathrooms is worth the difference to us.
