It wasn't that they said bad things about Bush...it was that they ran him down while performing in a foreign country. Just classless. But then again...I also ended up not liking the crappy attitude and way one of their members treated a veterinarian friend. So...I'll pass for political and personal reasons. They haven't had a new album in years...maybe they need money? I still laugh about the article the Quarter Horse Journal did on the dark haired one's husband. It was pathetic and even more pathetic that the AQHA printed it.
I remember that, wasnt impress with it at all. |

Location: South Central Florida | I truly.prefer my movie stars, singers, etc....to stay out of really.rude obnoxious political or religeous positions. Just sing, or dance...but once they start insulting halfnthe people buying their music or movies...it unintellegent. I dont think they can make a Country comeback, but if they change genras they may have a chance. I just found the main singer to be.so arrogant and obnoxious I didnt want to listen still say TONS of talent out there I would rather give a shot than spend anything on haz beens that blew it. |

Goodbye, Earl
Those black-eyed peas?
They tasted all right to me, Earl
You're feeling weak?
Why don't you lay down and sleep, Earl
Ain't it dark?
Wrapped up in that tarp, Earl
One of the main reasons for the barn name Earl of my two year old - may my husband never forget...................................... |

I cant remember either, but I was thinking they were talking about how race bred horses were good for using on his ranch up in the hill country. And he was breeding some for racing too I think. The Quarter horse journal was having a slow month so had to find something to talk about, lol.. |

| I guess I dont recall them insulting the American People?... Just Bush.
The way I look at it, many singers talk politics. However, often we agree with them because they are so patriotic. Like TK or Alan Jackson or Kenny Chesney. They have all played and talked politics. Therefore, I dont slam Dixie Chicks for their opinions. They are different than me but are allowed their own opinion. Do I think it was a smart idea? No.... in bad taste... yes. |

| Lead singer Natalie Maines fell off the face of the earth.
Laura and Robin, the sisters, went back to Courtyard Hounds and released at least one dang good bluegrass type album (that I own) after the political fall-out.
I'm curious as to why the re-forming? I probably won't go see them either, just curious. |

| I loved their music but I would not pay to see them in concert. I wish celebrities would stick to their day jobs and keep their political opinions to themselves. |

That would be Martie and Emily, btw who had the Courthard Hounds.
Laura and Robin were past members. |

They should have never done it over there. All celebrities need to stick to their day jobs, entertaining, and keep their mouth out of politics. |

Location: That part of Texas | I know a lot has been written by the press about why the backlash was so bad, but no one talks about what was going through most people's minds at the time. In March 2003, we weren't that far removed from 9/11 and the push to be a united front of support that still came from it. Many people watched loved ones and friends join the military during the year or so before all this to make a difference and try to keep terrorism from happening on our soil again. People had been in heated debates whether or not war in Iraq was needed or was the best move.
The problem was that at the time Maines' made her statement, even if you were someone who objected to going to war in Iraq, it was a time when everybody was putting aside those thoughts and supporting our troops before they left. To make a statement like she did was like a petulant child stomping her foot in protest while the adults were bucking up, putting their feelings aside and giving support to those who were about to put their lives in danger and were saying goodbye to their families for the last time. The timing of it all was just particularly bad. I know in my rural part of Texas, it was more about the seeming lack of support for our troops at the time than the statements about Bush and the war itself. That's what people remembered and the way she kept running her mouth off about it just sealed the deal -- especially the comments about TK's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" that was being played extensively as our troops were heading out and going over there initially.
I like many of their songs -- still have them in play lists -- but I won't be going to any of the concerts. |
