FLITASTIC - 2016-01-14 7:15 PM At some point I would love to talk to her. I wonder if she has a couple helpers that can ride and train with her. And as mentioned above, keeping them all fed properly, vet care, teeth, and I can't imagine her farrier. Lol

I know she hired at least one girl to work for and help her full time.  She has a great team behind her as far as family, owners and friends.

svincent - 2016-01-15 5:20 PM Kelsey is super talented and SUPER nice. I admire her A LOT.

Evidentley, a lot of others are noticing too that she can train and compete.

Last year, 2015, Jolene Montgomery won the Classic Equine Futurity Average at Buckeye, Arizona.  The Greg Olson Futurity Average was won by Tami Semas on Guys Best Bet, Jill Lane was second, Tami Semas was third on Smooth N Famous, and fourth on Guys Amberetto.  Tami Semas also won the Trophy for the combined average of the two futurities.

Kelsey Jo Lutjen comes from a long line of tough hands.. Her uncle Brett Beach went to the NFR in the team roping and her aunts Barry Beach Smith is married to Brad Smith and her late aunt, Beth Beach Cooper was married to Clay O'Brien Cooper.. They were all tough.. Goat tying fools too!! LOL

I have sat at a well known trainers place in Kentucky and watched her work over 30 head in a day....after she worked out in the am...before we went to breakfast......and ended with dinner at 9pm. Not just once either.....so I have to believe most of the woman in our sport are driven like this if they want to succeed . Now, I was tired just watching her and had to sleep in the next day! Good support is a must tho!

so she spent what amount of time per horse? 30 horses.....I guess I would assume the assistants warmed them up she hopped on for a few minutes then so on......but how can you really work one in that short of time .. the trainer..

30 minutes....give or take. She doesn't saddle or unsaddle. Still- wore me out!
Also- she didn't waste time- these colts all were worked to their ability- not over done or under but worked and I could watch the training work in front of me. It was pretty cool actually.... tiring but cool. Such a hand.

Ed Wright always said if you want to be the best get yourself 15-20 head, ride them everyday and get them figured out and swap them for 15-20 new ones!

Only problem with that is, MOST people actually have to WORK real jobs and can't spend 2 months in AZ over winter or have time to ride and feed 15-20 head.lolol I would rather have 1 or 2 and be able to focus all my efforts there.

I know! But if you told Ed that he'd just tell you if you wanted it bad enough you could do it! If I didn't have my kiddo I would totally move somewhere warm and do it. I could live off Ramen!!
