OP, you are so right. One of the pages I follow is "barrel racing tack/horse swap". It is HORRIBLE!! The other day a girl had a "1D horse for sale, $1000". The video showed a horse that couldnt have been more than green broke, much less experience on the pattern as it went almost everywhere but around the barrel. A friend of mine posted a well bred started prospect the other day and the tire kicking and silly questions were almost too much. I realize there are a lot of young people on there. A lot of arguing takes place between the posters as well.  I would be very reluctant to post a horse for sale on that site for those reasons.

That group is a joke. I had to stop following it because it became less about selling stuff and more about message board type stuff like "what color for my horse?" or "what do you think of my new horse?"
The ads that bug me are the ones that have just a head shot and the description says "message for more info". Wouldn't it take way less time to put all the info in the ad instead of replying to each person who messages you? I don't get it. It's kind of like online dating profiles--if you can't take the time to put some effort into it, why should you expect anyone to be interested?

Pictures do speak a thousand words!! The poster who listed 3 nice side shots, I feel like you know your stuff, your horses must be nice and you'd be a good seller. That's a little bit nuts because I don't know you from anyone!  Vs. someone who takes a "head-on" shot with as much tack on their horse as possbile and you can't even pretend to know what they look like.
Buying horses is such a pain in the butt, I'm learning it's best to seek out reputable sellers FIRST rather than a horse. You just never know who's straight up lying to you! The horror stories on here lately make you want to never buy again.

Ive seen ads for 3D-4D barrel horses $20k. Really? I can make a 3D/4D barrel horse from a BLM mustang. I find it entertaining.

I think it depends on the area on how certain division horses are priced. A 20k horse in KY is not the same as in TX. Saying just any horse can be 3D/4D is a little undermining.

I just bought a horse, not one I found on FB btw lol, and yeah the ads the photos the info were bad on most. What killed me was people couldn't be bothered to email or return calls. I have advertised horses for the barn I am at for the last 5 years and thought it was annoying that people would no call no show but now as the buyer I see sellers are often just as bad lol.

One guy changed his mind about the horse being for sale the day before I planned a 6 hour drive to see it only to tell me two weeks later he changed his mind again and she was for sale. Lol

Another lady advertised her horse at $3500 then didn't reply for weeks and when she finally did said the price went up because the horse qualified for sheriffs posse or something and stood around at a expo. I asked what the price was now and it was over 10k lol.

Horse shopping was a lot less fun than I had imagined going in lol.

When I was looking at one and asked for Picts at first I got a very blurry butt shot as she was walking away. I asked for better pictures and he sent me a butt shot of her tied up lol. You couldn't see her face or shoulder at all I was like well she must not be much to look at from the front lol. Also when I asked how much training she had he replied that he would go pick her up out of the feild and ride her once or twice before I came to see her and that was all the info I could get out of him lol.

Really???   You must be quite a hand.  Seriously, whether you meant it or not, that was a slap in the face to the average jackpot barrel racer.  And I can tell you those horses are every bit as valuable as any other horse because not all people have the capability of riding a 1D horse and are comfortable on one that takes care of them.

I also found it very offensive. My horse runs 3D/4D at smaller races and 4D/5D at big races. Granted, he has a lot of room for improvement and he's not firing on all cylinders yet, but to make it seem like it's SO easy to make a 3D horse is just rude. Maybe a 1D horse in her area is the equivalent of a 3D horse where I am?

That's not nice. Not just ANY horse can run barrels, it is not easy, and it's not ok to look down on people because they are 1-2 seconds off. They love and care for their teammates just as much as 1D people do. We are all barrel racers here, we should support each other.

This happened to me TWICE in a two week period!

Once the night before I was planning to leave to make a trip out of state to look at a horse, the woman called me and said she just loved him too much and she couldn't sell him. Ok, great. Then less than a week later, as I was pulling out of my driveway to make a few hour drive to look at a colt, the girl calls and says, "You know, I think I've decided I'm not going to budge on his price now. That's not a problem, right?" Uhm, yes it is. Thanks but no thanks, I'll be staying home now.

Something similar happened to my sister, but with alpacas. She told the lady she was coming to buy them, they agreed on a day and time, and while my sister was on her way WITH a trailer, the lady called and said she just had someone pay for them through Paypal, so they were sold. My sister was so mad! She told the lady if she would have known that, that she would have paid through Paypal first, but assumed cash would've been fine. She was going to pay the full asking price, but maybe the other person offered her more money? Really crummy to do someone like that.

Over the weekend, someone posted a FDD daughter for sale, within mins I sent her a msg requesting a phone number, called and talked to her over the phone and told her  pending a cell phone picture so we could see the horse was on 4 legs we would take her and I would wire her the money or we could put it on a CC either one and get her picked up. She said she would get me pictures that afternoon. SO 8pm rolls around and I send her a msg asking if she had a chance to get some pictures-no response. At 9 the next morning I get a FB msg saying that she sold her and someone picked her up that morning. I responsed with a Really? She tells me she needed her gone- well okay we didnt have an issue getting her picked up as soon as she was paid for but knowing that there was an actual horse on 4 legs in exchange for our money was kind of important. I can see if all I had done was send her a fb msg BUT I carried on a 10 min phone conversation with this person. The lack of intergity amazes me.

I am a FIRM believer that pictures really do get a horse sold, i will take 10million pics to get that ONE good one.... here are some of the pictures that have gotten horses sold for me. Those good pictures really are worth it.

The ones that make me see red are the ones you send a message about the horse and they reply back......oh I don't really want to sell the horse I just wanted to see what I could get for her...............there is medication for people who need that level of attention.

Maybe I am the odd man out, but I like to see performance pictures as the "main" selling point.

If I am browsing I can easily tell if the horse runs on a similar circuit as me.
I can also look up the results from that particular show if my google skills work out.

I do not buy prospects though. Only horses that are already running. So there is that to consider as well.

Yep, and ones that say "I'm thinking about selling my horse, just putting this out there to gauge interest." Seriously, don't waste people's time if you're not 100% sure you're not ready to sell.

Easy kids.... don't think spitzh was trying to hurt your feelings. Just saying most would not pay $20K for a 4D horse.

There are tons of horses that have been advertised as 1d that have been purchased for $35,000 and they are still chugging along in the 3d.
