I bought a saddle off the internet and when I got it it was a mess the dirt was really caked in the tooling so I had to get the water hose and clean it that way, used a soft brush and water and it worked great then I condition it after it dryed.

I used the foam on horse shampoo on one that was really nasty, had to foam the whole thing and scrub, faom and scrub some more before it finally came clean.  I think I used EQ Solutions and it really helped lift the dirt and din't seem to dry it out although I did condition it after it dried.  The last thing you want to do is seal all that dirt in by conditioning a dirty saddle, I have one like that now, dreading trying to clean it but I got a screaming good deal on it.

My husband has actually taken filthy old saddles to the car wash.....GASP ! ! ! ...... you just have to be very careful to not get too closer with the high pressure washer......cleaned them up, repaired them, conditioned them and they were good as new......

Kaycee - 2016-03-28 1:04 PM You can wash a saddle down with a water hose and let it dry in the shade and then use whatever oil you prefer.  I have Caldwells and this is what they recommend for cleaning their saddles.  I use their Miracle Juice and Black Rock for the elk seats.
I had a horribly caked one that I resorted to scrubbing with a brush and rinsing with a water hose ( I had to SCRUB it)......I did oil that thing repeatedly for a few days afterwards.  Turned out looking just like new.  It's not something I would do weekly - but once or twice isn't going to hurt anything.  Just use a good conditioner afterward.

Yeah, I'm with you on the not washing it down too often.  No worries for me as I am a bit lazy about cleaning my tack.  I am happy if I can get to it at least every 6-9 months.

I was a little chicken about washing this saddle with the water hose at first, but I thought what the heck didnt pay that much for the saddle got a great deal on it so I sprayed the heck out of it and got all the mud out of the tooling, gave it a few days of drying, condition it and wow it looked really great, sold it to my sister its a Sharon Camarillo, so was not a cheap made saddle. I have pictures of it somewhere, was proud of my work. Would love to find another dirty saddle and get the water hose after it, was kinda of fun to see the results.
Never thought about the car wash, my hubby has a pressure washer, but to scared to try it on a saddle, I pressure washed a saddle pad and got to close to it and messed it up, was not a happy camper with my self after that. LOL
His washer has so much pressure I have to brace against it.

I wouldn't try the power washer either but John is pretty nifty at it.....I just use the power spray on the hose sprayer (AND a toothbrush)......but don't let BHUSA hear this....I will get the ol' lecture from the "expert" ......LOL

I have an older Carl Ammerman with really deep tooling. I take the air compressor and blow it off first before I hit it with the leather cleaner. Works like a charm.

Count me in on the hosing the saddle off club.  I've never used the pressure washer but a spray nozzle on a hose works really well.   Of course, let it dry completely and then liberally oil.  I like to use olive oil or Montana Pitch Blend.

Does the wool get very wet when you are hosing off?

So we hose off, then can we use saddle soap (or EQ Solutions)?  Then we let dry and condition.  Am I on the right track?

Go to the dollar store and buy some stuff called Awesome. Spray it on and scrub with s stiff bristle brush and wipe off with damp cloth. Once it's dry oil it. Will look like brand new. That is how Souble J cleanse up used saddles.
