Location: Central Texas | I used to do bailbonds in the evening and on weekends and holidays. Made some serious cash doing that. I was basically on call from the moment I picked up the bond phone until I brought it back to the next bond agent. I would get calls at ALL hours of the night but when they said their bail was $10,000 or more I woke up quick!! I actually loved that job. |

Location: Kansas | I am a teacher during the school year, give riding lessons year round, secretary bull ridings, I'm a timer for the PRCA, and run the big screen at some PRCAs/PBRs throughout the year. I'm still broke as a joke. |

| I have rental properties. That has been helpful as it isn't overly time consuming, and my properties are also long term investments that pay for themselves. |

| I used to hang up Real Estate signs. But it got where it was more expensive in gas than it was worth and i never had time to rest, so I was always wore out. My husband put a stop to it when we got married. He said he wanted to actually spend time with me. Go figure lol |

Location: Up North | I sell a premium skin care called Rodan and Fields. You do not have to have any inventory and the company offers a 60 day empty bottle money back guarantee. These products are so awesome they sell themselves!!! I made enough money last month to make my pickup payment and have 200 left over for entry fees! PM me if you'd like more info! Theses doctors are the same doctors who invented Proactive too!

I also work full time w/benefits.
I've slowly gotten into some leather work. Made a few cowhide purses, tooled out a wallet, now finishing up a bronc halter with beaded, tooled & painted bronc noseband. However, this is probably more of a hobby now that I've gotten into it. LOL takes money to make money in this case.Â
I agree with this. I make custom, hand painted rodeo gear (hats, denim, bell boots, SMB's, etc ) and while I try to only do custom orders I have found that most people do not want to wait the 6-8 weeks that it takes to make the items and want to buy something off the shelf. I do not want to keep the inventory or haul it around so it seems to be more of a hobby now.
I'm an artist and make rustic decor and paintings, and people like to see what I have "in stock". I have a booth inside a local boutique-type store where I sell my stuff, but I can't guarantee availability so I always tell people to look at my Facebook page and if they see something they like I can make it for them, or do something custom. I rarely get orders that way, because people don't typically want to wait for me to do something, they want it NOW (even though it would take maybe a week for me to make it from scratch).
I've come to the realization that people want to see what you have available because they don't truly know what they want, so don't want to place a "custom" order. |

Location: North Dakota | soo, because I've recently changed jobs-from a "higher" up corp job to a govt job, I've put a few things into perspective. I took about a $25k a year pay cut to get out from under the stress of the corp job. (strange, weird and scarey) If you need "extra" money to fund hobbies, reevaluate your lifestyle. Live within your means, that might mean downgrading a car, watching your shopping habits, and budgeting. I no longer am able to shop much over my lunch and that alone has saved us about $150 a month. I'm sure I could get out from under my car and save $150 a month for a decent car instead of only 2 years old......refinance the house back to a 30 year mortgage (tho this is a desperate attempt to survive) If you have a newer trailer, vehicle, look for a cheaper (but still dependable) version. I'm still not sure that I will be able to barrel race much this summer, but so far it's looking like we should be just fine. Make the money you do have work the best for you! |

Location: Never in one place long | I sell things... I literally go through my tack, house etc and find things I don't need! For quite some time, I was making about $100 a week doing this, now I have a very clutter free home, barn etc and haven't missed a thing. I also give lessons and board horses and horsemotel. |

I really need to do this! I had a brand new (cheap) pad in my barn and I was going to start using on colts and when I picked it up I realized a mouse had made a very nice house in the fleece. No mouse now, but the pad is unusable! It would have been way smarter to sell it like 4 years ago. . . |

| Let me just add, I live within my means and am conservative with money. If I don't need to buy it I don't, if I dont need to enter I don't. I just feel like I can do more than just my 40 hr week at my day job. Im in my 20s, and I would love to have my mortgage paid off within the next 10 years. I want to make the most of "now". I didn't start this thread because I cannot or am struggling to pay my bills, I am looking for creative ways to get ahead :)
I have been thinking of partnering on some horses with the hubby. He can start them roping and I can start them in the barrel pen. We have a toddler though, and I dont always have time to ride my good horse, much less a youngster. I guess if I want to bad enough I will make the time! |

Location: Oregon | I started selling natural pet foods that led into selling fancy pet beds that led into starting a little mobile tack/clothing business. lol Now my day job (w-o-r-k) is getting in the way of my 'little' mobile/web business and I'm getting closer and closer to making the big decision... |

I agree. I also live within my means...do not have any truck/car/trailer/mortgage payments, use coupons, buy what's on sale and use leftovers etc for new meals. I also routinely go through my tack room and sell the items that I don't need. We pay off vet bills, buy tires, or use winnings to save for other trips or entry fees. But in this world unless you are the CEO, you need to have more than one egg in the basket, IMO. |

THIS is so smart!!! I wish I would have had this brain when I was in my 20's! Save, save, save, pay off your mortgage, invest in your 401 (k). Every extra penny goes towards my mortgage and that is my goal in life - to pay off my place. I also contribute as much as I possible can to my 401(k) - compound interst is an amazing thing lol. |
