I run a mare that isn't caslick, but she stays sore in her lower back. Do you guys think this could be the reason? I've never heard her suck air, but if she slightly did would it be noticeable? What other symptoms does mares normally show that need to be sewed up?
Sorry for all the questions! I normally run geldings, and the mares I've ran in the past were already sewed up before I bought them.

How much does this usually cost? My mare doesn't have one. She never swishes her tail or has soreness related to her back or being in heat, so I never thought about it. She's the only mare I've ever ran, so I forget these things. She gets her teeth done today so I suppose I could ask my vet if she's familiar with the procedure.

I ran my mare for 1.5 years before doing a caslicks on her and I will never run a mare without it again. It helps so much in my opinion. I also have my mare on progesterone now and she does still come into heat in spring time but NOTHING like she used to do. I have her on 1.5cc IM every other week.

Ed Wright once told me he got every mare done and they all should be and I do have a mare with terrible "back end" conformation that I got sewn up but my main mare isn't. She's built well and I never have had a reason to

Mine would get terrible infections and I could hear her sucking air while running in the pasture. Got her sewn up, treated her infection and have had zero issues since.
