All I know is that Clark Montgomery let his feelings get to him in eventing cross country, whipping his horse for refusing (even if the horse was being a brat) like that when you know you are being video'd is not very wise. The equestrian sports already get a lot of bad vibes, no need to feed the haters with precious video like that.

Otherwise, I love the swimming and gymnastics, USA is kicking butt.

Wow! Glad I didn't see that. Will he be disciplined for that? I remember McClain was banned for a while for putting plastic chips in his horse's boots. But it wasn't at the Olympics.

Three strikes from a bat, in succession is maximum permissible correction. Any more would have resulted in disciplinary action against Clark for excessive use of the whip. When a horse gets rattled on cross country especially, as the rider, your top priority is to get them up and in front of your leg again. When a horse of this caliber stops, or runs out without a very good excuse, you dang sure better remind them in a hurry that their job is to get in gear, be responsive to your aids and get to the other side of the dang jumps. Clark is nothing if not a consummate, caring Horseman, whom I am sure felt that his correction was equal to his horse's offensive behaviors. You don't produce a horse to that level through unfair, or brutal tactics.
