No idea on Dodge or Chevy, but I love our 2002 F350 dually.... grant it, we only get 10MPG, but it will pull a house and get you anywhere!

dianeguinn - 2016-09-15 9:06 AM Just bought a 2016 High Country Duramax this year and I absolutely love it. This is the 3rd Chevy I've had, and IMO, they can outpull, outride and outdrive all the others (I've driven my friends' trucks, so that's how I compare.)

Do tell more! What kind of milage do you get? I've loved the duramax for hauling ever since it came out. I had a 2001 and now I have a 2006. Love them for all of the moutains we haul over here.

Our 2016 is averaging 22 mpg with our LQ behind it. Obviously varies with hills... Hubbys f250 gasser gets about 9mpg pulling his trailer for work, and weighs about half as much.

I don't get as good as Bingo, but I do drive with my foot in it most of the time. If the speed limit is 70, I'm usually going 77...but I get from 11 to 17 on the little monitor on the truck. I haven't figured it myself. That's pulling a 3 horse, 8 wide Platinum with LQ.

where and who is driving makes a huge difference. Im pretty sure my truck gets 5 miles/gallon better when I drive compared to my husband. I constantly ask him where the fire is we are headed to!

I get 18 - 20 on my 06 without a load 15-17 fully loaded. calculated not based the computer

I have a hard time believing this also. Ive ridden with a few friends with the Duramax and they get horrible mileage even down here in the flatlands. Ive also driven all 3 of the majors and you can have problems with all three. It just comes down to a matter of preference. I drive a Dodge. My ex husband's family owned a Ford dealership so I had to drive those for awhile. I would choose a Dodge or a Ford over a Chevy.

At 60k+/- for these new oil burners and then to have the privilege of adding Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) aka pee to the system, ya'll can keep em! I will drive my pre 03 1/2 Ford 7.3L Powerstoke Diesels forever! Cause it is a little know FACT that the IH466 is the short block with a different camshaft and therefore parts (as in crate motors) are available! And no unconstitutionally EPA Mandated Emissions BS!

My 2010 GMC 3500 with a Duramax gets about 16 naked, and 10-11 with a big LQ trailer (11,000 lbs empty).   The smaller LQ trailer I had, my 08 was getting 12-13.  I find 22 mpg hard to believe.

NO. The unConstitutional EPA does! With their mandates that carry the weight of legislation when in fact are actually regulatory in nature.

In regards to the DEF i.e. Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Technology. It is an extra system to maintain and beings as it is electronically controlled. Then there is more electrical systems to maintain. All around it is a major PITA.

It's actually pretty painless.

But I can see how it would scare some folks.

I once traded in an awesome 1 ton Dodge that had about 100K miles on it for a King Ranch F450 Ford with 50,000 miles on it.  I was so excited....this truck had been winking at me on my way to work for about a month, so I pulled in and drove it one evening, and ended it up driving home.  Hubby loved it.  It was a gorgeous truck....until we hooked it to our trailer and the exhaust literally hit the ground.  We had to put airbags under it before we could even leave the driveway!

Now, one would think, gosh, her trailer must be HUGE!  Nope, it was a Sooner 3 horse with a 10' short wall. Smallest LQ trailer i've ever had.  There were a few other issues with the Ford like it it was almost impossible to get stopped even with the trailer brakes turned way up.  It would anti-lock on dry road with a trailer at slow speed.  Now keep in mind, i'm used to driving a standard....this was my first automatic, but did I mention it was pretty?!?!?!?!

Needless to say, that insident put a sour taste in my mouth for a Ford.  I traded it in on another Dodge, which i'm still driving, and took a loss on the King Ranch.  Pretty disappointing.

Now we're shopping again, and will hang on to the Dodge for a ranch truck. But do I dare try another Ford.....or Chevy?  Or just stick with the old faithful Dodge even though it won't be a standard?  I need to hook each one to my trailer to do a test drive.  LOL

Obiviously, You have not had any problems with the equipment you use or have access to. Good for you! I have been around and exposed to equipment with pee tanks that have experienced problems. The repairs are not cheap! They are on par with the nightmare expenses that the Ford 6.0s produce.

Luckily, I don't need to be believed. I saw it yesterday when we were hauling. No worries.

Love love love my 2014 1 ton dodge Cummings .. Have zero complaints & it's been the most reliable truck one could have ! It hauls 4 horse living quarters with 8 ft short wall every weekend for hundreds of miles. Love it !

I wouldn't take a Dodge if you gave it to me for free....unless it's at least 12 years old or older.

There is no arguing that nothing beats a Cummins.  Nothing.

But since Fiat bought out Chrysler.......

After a year long battle that involved lawyers, the United States Attorney General, and the lead investigator for the NHTSA, the information we learned will ensure we will never be Chrysler customers again.  And not necessarily because Dodge does or doesn't stink.  It boils down to HOW they handle the situation when it doesn't favor them.  And how they tried everything they could right down to breaking federal laws to attempt to screw us over.

We ended  with a 2015 GMC 3500 Denali.  We have had it since March and are beyond impressed with it.  Not only is it a beast to haul with (5 horse with LQ), it's actually are vehicle of choice to go anywhere, shopping etc.  We just love it that much that we don't mind spending a little extra of fuel to drive it.

I got lucky and was able to dump an 09 and an 011 dually's when I sold my cow place that would make a preacher cuss. One was a DEF addict and within 200 miles would choke down to 15mph if you could keep it running and the $250 filter always was the problem and there is no warranty time on this POS .... the other would just die on the hiway and no one ever figured out why ... I knew every tow truck driver between Houston, San Antonio to Okla City and Tulsa .... US RYDER even banned them from my tow contract with them .. lol ... both were Fords ...

I like my classic trucks and cars 3500 2003 dodge cummins diesel 6spd manual ... 22+ running empty .. 16-18 with a standard 3h w/oversized tack room .... it was my runaround truck before and only has 114,000 miles on it.

I have a 1991 corvette 240HP automatic that nails over 25mpg doing 70-75 mph and it has only 44,000 miles on it ...

I also have a 2000 corvette 350Hp 6spd manual that just got 29.7 mpg driving round trip to and from Corpus Christi at 75-85mph ... it has only 16,000 miles on it ... lol

These two vettes are all the horses I need ... will be selling my last 3 this month ... palomino mare and palomino baby and a yearling buckskin filly .. lol

I am not sure which one of my vehicles I am going to get buried in .. because I like all three of them ... they may all freak out since they are all kept in the garage or barn alleyway .. ... lol
