This was a list I made in March of 2015.
Ionophore Free Companies:
Purina
Blue Bonnet
Renew Gold
Manna Pro
Standlee Hay
Buckeye
Progressive Nutrition
Seminole
Ametza Hay Pellets
Total Equine
Chaffehay
Danco/Omni's
Woody's
Triple Crown- Nebraska mill is ionophore free. Seguin TX is supposed to be updating the facility so it will eventually be ionophore free. Byhalia MS is NOT ionophore free!! Recently TC Has had problems with too much sulphur in their feeds and it's been making horses very sick. Use caution.
Nutrena - depends on the mill. Abilene TX is ionophore free. Sterling CO is NOT ionophore free!!
Isn't progressive made by cargill, who makes nutrena?
Like I said, this list was made a year and a half ago so it might be slightly outdated. I know Triple Crown had out sourced to Cargill/Nutrena. But then recently Blue Bonnet started milling for them too. But I don't know if they still use Cargill too.
I have no idea about Progressive. Cargill is who makes Nutrena.
I read southern states was milling for Triple Crown at some point wonder if they still are because they are not a clean mill either. They have separation but still have on site. |

Woody's was purchased by some big company last year (Straton something?)....not sure what their practice is since then. Hopefully they kept their level of quality. |

Location: Dubach, LA | I have an older gelding on Nutrena Senior. He absolutely cannot eat feed that contains beet pulp. He choked badly on soaked beet pulp once and again when I tried to move him over to Purina Senior (which lists beet pulp as second or third ingredient.)
Bluebonnet feeds rely heavily on beet pulp. Who has a suggestion for a safe feed?

Does anyone know about LMF?
LMF says they are safe I do not know if they have an complete separate facility or not though. I would guess not as I was finding whole corn in my Sr feed for a while this summer and mills use corn to sweep the chutes sometimes. |

Β The risk of contamination is reason enough but Nutrena is not a fixed formula feed meaning they can change ingredients according to the avalibilty of ingredients-it does not have to match the tag on the bag. Β I fed safe choice years ago when I fed grain and my horses would sometimes refuse to eat, I would try a different bag and they would eat. Β
Well said.
That is two things, each of which should be a deal killer.

The last I heard about Progressive it was bought out by Cargill but still operates independently. We feed it and swear by it. They are fixed ingredient and my colts tell me they are good ingredients. Nothing like a bunch of racebred weanlings to tattle on a bad feed manufacturer.

I've emailed the TC rep and asked her about the mill that makes the TC feed that showed up suddenly at my local fleet farm last week. I was told it was an Ionophore FREE facility and is milled at consumer supply in SD. From what I can tell the information I got is true. They don't seem to produce any medicated feeds according to their product list on their website. The only reason I looked in TC is because a few horses at the boarding barn I manage are on safechoice original and senior by their owners request and I would rather them be on Triple Crown as atleast it is a fixed formula and if it is produced at a safe mill that will make me feel alittle better about feeding it to them. |

Location: Texas | Texas and Oklahoma peeps, Red River feed makes 0 medicated feed in their mill. Most of their products list a fixed formula of ingredients.
Bryant doesn't use ionophores in their mill, but they do use Chlortetracycline in some of their cattle feeds. |

PM Tdove on here or google Danco hay. They make Omni cubes which are an alfalfa cube that has a little whole oats and flaxseed included in the cubes. They also make an alfalfa cube - Mustang Sally. I have used both of these and do not soak them. On Danco's Facebook page they will have a list of dealers. There are other feeds, but these are the ones I use. |

I sure do. Right now I am not riding very much so they aren't getting the Omni cubes. Ask Tdove the ratio of the oats to alfalfa in the Omnis. I THINK it was something like for every 20 lbs. of cubes was 5lbs of oats. I never fed that much of the cubes, I fed 10 lbs do I figured that was about 2.5 lbs of oats. The Flaxseed came to 8 oz. in 20 lbs do 4 oz in 10. But again, Tdove will know. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I've pretty much stopped the processed grains. I give Purina Active Senior and Ultium Growth when needed but most of mine get soaked alfalfa and/or beet pellets instead of grain. Also just some plain oats. |
