Location: NE TX | I have just one, my spoiled brat of a diva and she takes all my time and money right now. I do want to get something young coming up behind her in case something did happen to her. It is very nice to only have 1. I have had 3 at once and that was hard on me financially, so when I had two it was better. Now with one it's even better. |

I went from 3 barrel horses down to 1 in the last month. LOL Its pretty darn weird feeling BUT it sure is nice on the pocket book!!!! Just wondering how many of you only have 1 horse and if you like it? I'm going through withdrawl and SHOPPING like crazy.. lol
No...I went from 4 to just 2. So now you might see me at a race again. LOL I would like to go down to just one, but hubby needs something to rope on and the baby needs something steady to ride.
My current 4 year old colt just isn't it...yet. |

Location: Illinois | I have 3 horses, but only one can be ridden. One is a retired pasture pet and the other isn't big/old enough to get on yet. I don't mess with those two much, mostly just check to make sure they're on 4 legs and breathing. I've only ever had one horse of my own running, so I'm used to hauling just one. Last year I hauled a friend's horse that I was training & taking to exhibition. By the end of the season I was entering him and after the first time I had to warm up & run 2 horses in a class of 30, I had a newfound respect for anyone who hauls multiple horses. I had to start running mine in the open and hers in any adult/novice type class that was available. Normally I run mine in adult and open, but with so few in adult sometimes I didn't have time. Hers needs a lot of loping down before he's mentally ready. I'll be hauling both a lot at the start of this year too, and I enjoy running the extra as he's just easy cruising and can hold his own with my horse already. I'll be happy to go back to just one for awhile before I start hauling the young one next year & after that. |

| Sometimes I wish I had only one. I have 5 and my daughter has 2. I have 3 riding geldings. One finished, one ready to exhibition and the other not to far behind. I have a crippled mare I just temporarily rehomed to be a buddy to geriatric gelding. Last but not least, is a yearling filly that was a gift from my boss. He dispersed his race horses(not by choice) and she was out of my favorite mare I owned/rode for awhile after her track career anyway he bought her back and gave her to me. After taking on the projects for years I'm so excited to have a blank slate to mold all my own instead of cleaningu p someone elses mess.
I haven't had a vacation in 5 years and Im always "broke" but I'm incredibly happy and fit from all the work ;) |

Location: on my horse | I've only had one for most of my life but last year I got another on accident I really enjoy having my own colt putter around on and not always someone else's. It's also really nice to have the two because my mare has been off for the last 9 months or so so this little black horse has been a real sanity saver. The expenses are double of course but I do feel like its worth it. |

Location: Montana | I did for a long time...I couldn't afford more, and I boarded about 30 minutes from town, so I didn't have time for more. Now I'm boarding closer to Great Falls, so now I got another, but he didn't work out (long story) and I thought I'd go back to one. It took me about 6 months realize I needed another. So now I have two, with a possible 3rd on the way (my main mare may or may not be pregnant, not sure yet, and yet another long story). So long story short, I did, but I'm happy to have 2. :) |

Location: North of the 49th Parallel | I've only had 1 horse throughout University (I board, so that's the main factor) and she's bred right now so I have nothing to ride. Figured I'd just work like crazy to not think about how much I miss barrel racing. Working so far. But I have really mean friends who are horrible influences on me and send me links on horses to buy and it's only time before I cave. I miss having a colt to mess with. |

| I have the opposite problem! My herd size doubled this year, and now I have a whole barn full of horses. I don't even know how it happens, I just can't stop bringing them home!!! |

Location: Silver Lake, MN | I only had 1, then I bought a weanling last year so still just have the 1 to ride. It is kind of strange sometimes but does free up time for other things which is nice. I also have none name brand horses and its been fun and rewarding. I like those kind and they are easier on the pocketbook. Although my dream horse is a Streaking Ta Fame although I will probably never be able to shell out the money for one. LOL. |

Location: British Columbia | I had to sell all of my horses (except one) when I got divorced.
And then told myself, this is nice, it's so cheap... then I bought 4 more.
Yeah...I don't even know how it happens, really. |

| My fiance and I only had one horse each when we moved in together. We left our other stalls open for training horses. That number has quickly grown and now all of our stalls are full of our own horses (8).. not sure how that happened. Only having one horse was excellent on my pocketbook, but not so much if something happened and then not having any back up was no good. I do enjoy playing with colts, and not putting all my time into other peoples horses and having nothing to show for it at the end of the day. Its a lot of work, but if I dont want to ride one day, I dont have to.. When we sell one, I quickly find something else I want.. its a never ending cycle |

Location: Lost in the corn of Iowa. | I have always had at least 2 for the past 25 years. The kids grew up and got away from riding so it was just me and I sold the kids horse and kept my good mare. I told my husband and everyone else that I was only going to have one horse for a while because it was so much cheaper. Yeah...that lasted about 3 months. I'm back up to 2 and honestly I like it that way. 1 was much easier for sure, but I enjoy having 2. |
