I keep it pretty simple I feed 1 1/2 lbs oats 3/4 alfalfa pellet 3 ounces of peas and 2 ounces of pumpkin seeds , hemp seed oil and various herbal mixtures but everyone gets marshmellow root, aloe, spirulina and turmeric. Here is a picture of a mare a few weeks ago I am in Montana and have had the hardest winter we have seen in 20 yrs. No barn still shiny! Had to use picture from Oct/Nov The second picture is from a couple weeks ago. They have all been on alfalfa all winter.
On your peas and pumpkin seeds, do you soak them, or feed them dry?

They are fed dry. I use split peas . I had tried a couple of feeds that used peas and the horses like it but had to drive about 400 miles to get it so just mixed this up. |

Location: Cocoa, Florida | My newest colt gets a Florida feed - Seminole wellness dyna sport, he does very well on it, it's 14% fat but I'm riding him heavily right now. I also add more ground flax and coco soya oil, a feee choice salt mineral and I do aloe Vera juice for ulcers.
He gets a bucket of alfalfa cubes and 2-3 flakes of Timothy and alfalfa mix every night as well. Turned out all day on grass.
Here's the contents of my feed

| I do 1/2 scoop of 12% Impact & 1/2 scoop crimped oats w/ free choice quality forage all night (we're fortunate with our grass here) & a huge flake of Timothy alfalfa while she's stalled.
We're super low maintenance around here lol

Where do you get your hemp oil?
I was buying from Natural One in Canada but Biostarus has some and I am seeing it show up a few more places. It is expensive but all the oils are getting pretty expensive any more. |

| Daily:
6-8 lbs Total Equine (depends on work load)
4 oz MVP Exceed 6-Way
1 oz MVP DC-Y (devil's claw, yucca) anti-inflammatory
1-2 oz raspberry leaf (for mare's heat cycle/PMS)
Grass turn out and free choice grass hay
1-2 flakes alfalfa
I don't have any recent pictures but they look and act pretty darn good.
What works for one horse, may not work for the next. In my experience, it takes a lot of personal research to find the right regimen....and to not be tempted by the latest fad.
If you want more info on MVP products, shoot me a message! |

Location: Jersey Girl | I feed a ration balancer (Purina) once a day and they get about a bale of hay a day. My horses are FAT. they should slim down once I can ride regularly again. |

Location: Gainesville, TX | I think it is interesting people feed peas. That was a staple horse feed throughout the middle ages and Renaissance as they did not have as many grain choices as we have now. I don't think its a bad option.
There is your historical horse fact for the day. Carry on. |

Β That is interesting!!
That is interesting thanks. I started feeding because our protein levels in hay in my part of the country is poor and our ground is just depleted. They love them. |

Location: NE TX | I feed Bluebonnet Equiline Pellets 1 scoop once a day with one scoop of bleeder stop and 1 cup of aloe Vera juice at home. When I haul she also gets omeprazole at night and ranitidine in the morning. When at home she is in a 3 acre pasture to herself so free grazes, when hauling she gets as much coastal hay as she wants. She stresses when she is hauled and stalled so that's why I add the omeprazole and ranitidine is to cut down on ulcers.
I used to feed Ultium in the blue bag and loved how she looked but it made her hot and she was also on Platinum Performance and I didn't notice much difference in coat or hoof health so I discontinued that.
Attached picture is a week ago ( she's still shedding but is mostly done now) |

I was going to attach a photo but it wouldn't let me. I like the way she looks and acts on the Equiline compared to Ultium. |

They are dried split peas have seen some whole peas in feed as well but they are pretty hard so I liked the split ones. Not sure it matters though. |

Where do you get them at?
I was buying at health food supply stores either in town or there are places on line but have not used them. I now have found some farmers who are growing them so will be doing that now. |
