| I didn't read the replies. I think you're looking for the word cliques.
To answer your question, there's a lot of us on here that know each other in person or on FB. We enjoy our bhw time and our interactions here. Some of us are very like minded on many subjects, and like to interact.
Some people get more replies by phrasing their questions in ways that are actually approachable. Sometimes I get half way through an answer and delete it because I feel like I'm wasting my breath.
I also don't like to reply to questions that have been answered here a hundred times in a hundred different ways. That's what google is for. Often there are questions that I have no experience with, so I let those go by.
That's just how I see it! |

Let me get this straight, you make a post complaining that no one helps you.... yet after several requests you've yet to post a question. If you stir the pot please lick the spoon. I have always had very good luck receiving help from this board.
Especially when there have been 0 posts from this name in the past year..... so.......
I think the point of the thread was to address the issue. I understand it's kind of a drama- starting thread but I have seen a big mob mentality here in the past. I don't think he/she is complainomg about a specific question. Just addressing the clique issue itself. It's kind of the elephant in the room here. I know when I post I try to word things veerrrryyyy specifically as to not be eaten by the lions AND to draw enough attention to get an answer. |

I agree with you Roanie. I also think the time of day you post a question can reflect the number of replies. Late evening is not a good time, but mid morning is a good time to post a question. Also, if you are asking a similar question, just ask it on the one that is similar. People are already posting on that one and a lot of times you will get a lot of answers that way.

Must be a really small elephant because I've never noticed. I think an issue is being made where there really isn't one. This isn't high school... |

there are certain topics that bring the elephant into the room in a big way. |

Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends. And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this board will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all posters are created equal." I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons and daughters of former posters and the sons and daughters of former actual doers will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of BHW a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the number of post or NBHA World show Wildcards purchase but by the content of their character. |

| I see it as a numbers game. Right now there are 2293 BHW registered users online. Of that number, what percentage truly comment on a daily basis? 1% maybe? That could be why there is a "perception" of cliques. With that said, if the same people are participating in threads day after day, you're bound to get the same viewpoints, opinions, etc. |

Location: Displaced Iowegian | Here are the type of posters who post threads....
Newby Nellies (OR Ned) .... who usually ask a relevant question and get answers from those who have experience in the question Nervous Nellies ..... who are afraid that they will mess up their horse and need help and usually get answers from those with experience Nice Nellies .... sometimes forgets that the same question has been posted a zillion times but are grateful that anyone answers .... and usually gets a answers from those with experience Needy Nellies ..... who post for the one and only purpose of attention seeking .... they usually do NOT get many answers because people are tired of them Numerous Nellies .... who post copious amounts of threads to run up their post count....and usually do NOT get many answers Narcissistic Nellies .... they post to boost their own self absorption and value....they usually do NOT get many responses Numbskull Nellies .... They post but then get their "panties twisted" because they don't get the answers that they want....they usually DO NOT get many answers ... it only takes a couple of threads by this type and people refuse to answer The above is posted as "tongue in cheek" but if it "offends" you, you are probably guilty of one or more of the above..... |

Location: That part of Texas | The two times "mob mentality" breaks out on here is usually when:
(1) Someone posts a question and when others ask uncomfortable follow-up or less then desirable questions that point out flaws in thinking, acting or behaving, that person gets "mobbed" when they start fighting back with those that were initially on the thread to help. Nobody likes admitting that they are wrong, have done something stupid or don't know things that can end up hurting their horse, others or themselves. Those that can take a "licking" and admit when they aren't doing the right thing or having the right attitude about a problem are the ones who will continue to get help and earn respect on here because it's not easy admitting when you're wrong and correcting it on an open forum. It's easier to fight with those people, back track and fade off into other areas/counterattacks so you see a "mob" posting on here in response to that. It is what it is.
(2) Mob mentality sprouts up on here when someone asks repeated questions or makes posts that show they haven't corrected old problems and those are turning into new ones or otherwise are showing how bad a situation truly is with a horse, person or whatever. It's hard to offer advice, see someone disregard it and then later on post about something much worse because they won't take advice on fixing any of the problems and it snowballs. People who reply on here give a sh*t and they don't like wasting their time. They also care about horses, animals and other people. When you see someone repeatedly rejecting good advice and putting an animal's health in jeopardy, you'll see people on here turn from being supportive to that person to supporting the animals instead and going on attack mode. If you are unfamiliar with the back posting history, it can seem as if things have escalated very quickly but that quick escalation is more in reflection of the level of frustration and concern that people have on here than them just being a bunch of mean mob girls picking on someone. |

Location: Missouri | I started to reply in the beginning on this then thought, nope, not worth my time. But...I don't see the cliques here..yes, some people are "seasoned" BHW members, so they know each other in one way or the other. Many are facebook friends, and even have fun meeting each other in *gasp* real life. I honestly feel like if I were in a bind, I could reach out to at least a dozen on here (only a couple do I know their real name even), and they would move heaven and earth to help me.
I'm not a barrel racer. Have no desire to be a barrel racer. We have ranch horses, my daughter is a higher level rodeo queen, we dabble with roping. But I read, I question, I think, I do further research, and I've learned a great deal on so many subjects, not all horse related, because of this board. I have posted maybe a dozen times on here and have always gotten responses. I also respond to posts when I a) have something different to say than what has been said b) have what I at least feel to be something constructive to add and c) feel like input is being well received
As everyone else says...so what is the question? If you don't have one in particular, then please take note that it's comments like the one you made that make so many shake their head and move on. If there are already "pages" on a similar question, why repeat? I know there are several here who direct posters to similar threads for answers. If you aren't getting a response, try the tried and true "bump" in case it was at an off/busy time, or reread your post and see if perhaps it might need reworded.
I would also like to add, if you post on a public forum, be prepared to get all kinds of answers - good advice, bad advice, maybe not what you want to hear, maybe not sugar coated, sometimes a good reality check. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | I've stopped answering questions because it's like beating a dead horse. And when you give someone a knowledge and experience based answer about a brand of tack, a problem, or etc the OP usually shoots it down with No, that's not right.
Usually when people ask a question they already have their answer made up in their mind before they even post it. they just want to feel good about their decision and when someone goes against that decision they get 50 shades of P'd off...
Sometimes, I literally do not have the energy to deal with people like this.
About the "IT" club... Here's an idea: Message someone you think is in the "IT" club and introduce yourself. It's that easy. NJJ and SouthTXPonyGirl have the biggest hearts, the loudest opinions and beliefs and aren't afraid to educate people on certain subjects. And guess what? You can be their friend too! All it takes is a message. If you think someone else would be best at answering your question, private message them instead of posting to the board. Winnwillow is who I message about nutrition, I message NJJ when I have a question about a thread. I message Roxie (Southtxponygirl) when I need a good laugh or a pick me up. Every person here brings something to the table and shares what they have with others. What are you bringing to the table? You want to receive? Bring something to the table. Reach out. |

Location: Illinois | I think at times we get the "clique" mentality on here, but mostly I think its often just coincidence. If you ask something and no one responds, chances are it's because they've given their opinions on the same topic in 4 other posts about the same thing in the last year. I often don't get more than 1-2 responses, but sometimes I get quite a few. I got many really great name suggestions on one of my latest posts, but when I posted about an issue with my horse I didn't really get much response. Usually I look back a month later and read it again & I'm like yeah, I wouldn't have answered that either. I have learned to always search old threads for the topic I'm asking about before I post. Often times I get my questions answered there.
I think it seems like there's favoritism, like someone said, because there are people who have friendships and personal connections with many others on here. You're more inclined to respond to a person you know. Or there's those who have been commenting for years who are more active with each other, and often times if you just don't feel included because you feel like the "newbie." I rarely get on, so I'm not offended when no one responds. I think the more you try to interact on the forum you get better results. Maybe just try to actively participate more, give opinions and ask questions. I tend to only respond to threads that catch my interest or that I have had experiences with. I also typically don't go past the first page of threads so if it's been pushed to the 2nd page I won't see it until it's been resurrected by someone who does, putting it back to the top. I think it's just hit or miss really, but I kind of understand the feeling a little bit. Like I said, I think maybe just try to be more active and get to know the people who post and try to make constructive threads. We've probably all posted something stupid or redundant at some point that no one has responded to, I don't think it's anything personal against anyone. |
