Always be leary of people who say they want to pay with Paypal. they are hoping you have no idea how it works and will ask you for your email to send money via friends and family. NEVER give your email to a buyer you don't know. Once they have your email, that's all they need in order to hack your accont and get your banking info or card info. THey can also charge to your account and your account will become negative.

ALWAYS send them an invoice. ALWAYS upload tracking information. If they want to send a shipper request they send you an email stating they will cover shipping cost and set up. This way you have proof and they cannot open a claim stating they never received the item since there was no tracking uploaded. PayPal will accept an email as proof if it is the same email address used to pay.

OK, so your advising NOT to give anyone your email address, but YOU NEED someone's address to INVOICE THEM. SO how does that work? Your not supposed to give yours but you expect others to give YOU their email? Please clarify thanks!

I had the exact thought. When I'm a seller I always ask for the buyers email and invoice them.

But when I'm the buyer I give them my PayPal email address so they can invoice me...

At the end of the day, I watch all of our accounts closely.

merdth6 - 2017-06-22 1:19 PM I use paypal all the time. I can transfer the money right into my account.  I just don't deal with anyone saying a shipper is coming. And I will not pay thru Paypal for friends and family. Not covered by the insurance. Some guy was trying to scam me on a saddle not to long ago. Was pretty slick until I realize his telephone number area code was from Chicago, but he was telling me he was in Texas. He paid for an ad on here and everything!  But I remembered the same saddle was listed on ebay and that saddle was in FL? You have to really do your research.  I called him out and he was still arguing with me. I also let the seller in FL know someone was trying to sell her saddle.
TO me phone number is no big deal. With cell phones people keep the same number even when they move. Its totally logical for someone to have a cell with a Chicago # but live in TX. Many of my students have cell phones that are not local numbers

I agree with the phone number but not in this case. Esp because this supposed seller sent me the same pictures from the saddle that was for sale on eBay in Florida. I was just saying people go thru lots of hoops to scam you.

I had someone send me a cashiers check for a saddle. I was asking $1500 for saddle and told them the shipping would be $65. They sent a check for $2800. I called the bank to ask if the check was legit. Bank said the check had been issued in September of 2014!!! So it was a fake.

It looked real and so did the envelope, etc. So I stashed it in my desk drawer at work. No contact from buyer...but a few days later I got ANOTHER check for the same amount for the same address.

I texted the seller and told him that I would arrange for shipping from my work: San Diego PD East County Division. I never heard back from them. LOL

Yeah, whenever someone says they're sending more than I'm asking, I ignore. That's a surefire sign it's a scammer. They also always say they'll have someone pick it up for them.

FLITASTIC - 2017-06-22 2:34 PM What is the turn off to pay pal???? I use it ALL the time ! Reason being is to keep you from getting scammed. ANyone can buy anything from me using pay pal. I issue an invoice, they pay it, I transfer the money to my personal bank account. Once it clears ( usually same day), I ship etc... If I buy on pay pal and they don't ship, file a claim and get my money back. I don't see the problem with those of you who are against it. Just don't send it friends and family, then your screwed.

I've never had problems. I see the biggest problem is when people think they can save money by having them send it friends and family. Never do this unless you are actually sending a friend or family member money. As a seller, you have no recourse.

I recently made a purchase through paypal I made on my credit card and it was a scam of sorts. They sent me a trial sample for shipping. I read everything and they claim I was set up for autoship unless I cancelled within 30 days. I called my credit card company and they said it happens all the time. They took off the charges on my card and they also had an additional charge that had just come up on my statement.

My mother just got caught up in a scam... mystery shopper scam. .. she didn't tell any of us until it was brought to her attention she was being scammed... I have a sister who works at a bank. This "company" sent her a check for $1900 she took it to her bank and they actually cashed it and gave her the money... she was to keep $375 and send the rest in a money gram transfer thru walmart out here to the walmart in Amarillo and then let them know how her experience was. Luckily once she caught on she went back to her bank, same day, and they told her to rush back to Walmart and try and stop the transfer... thankfully they hadn't sent it yet and they returned the money to her, in which she returned all the money to the bank... she asked her bank why they'd cash a check like that and they told her she's been a long standing customer and has direct deposit so they weren't going to hold any money. Phew!!! Crazy things out there these days! She should have known better but I swear these scammers are preying more n more on the elderly.

That is hilarious. I will certainly keep that in mind with people that are bugging me. lol

I use craigslist a lot...had a whole house to furnish...and I had furniture and stuff to sell. I always make sure I talk to someone on the phone before I sell or buy anything. For me, talking to the person on the phone first seems to be the key.
