| We live just west of Houston. My husband just sent me a text he received from a co worker. This storm is expected to be much worse than being reported with some counties receiving up to 50" of rain over 5 days. South of Katy will be a disaster with 1000's of homes underwater and tens of thousands will have flood damage . Some coastal counties have already been declared disaster. During Allison more people died from heat stroke trying to leave at the last minute and runnng out of gas, no water in our 100+

Location: Texas | I'm on call this weekend and am worried I may get flooded out and unable to drive into the clinic. I may have to spend the night here. Not wanting to but we have patients in house and we take evacuees so....blah.
My dad works in Victoria but should be able to get home by Tomorrow morning to weather the storm with my mom and sisters who are in Wharton... about 2 hours NE of Corpus. I'm in Waller county which is also one of the counties declared as in a state of emergency. Not looking forward to this weekend and what may be in store.

I just got off the phone with a buddy (who I have not spoken to in some time) who left me a voicemail on my cell instructing me to call him back. His father is Steve Radack, who is the Harris County Commissioner for Precinct 3. He said that Army Corps. of Engineers and every flood control district within Houston had an emergency board meeting this morning. Mr. Radack was briefed on their findings and has relayed the following information to my friend, who just told me the following:
Harvey is supposed to be much worse than expected, and worse than Allison. At this moment, they are projecting 10,000 homes under water and approximately 100,000 flooded homes around the Houston area. Colorado County is projected to get 50+ inches of rain, with surrounding counties taking on over 30+ inches. The storm is expected to hit the “heart of Houston” and everything South of Katy is expected to be devastated, including Galveston. The storm is projected to last for 5 days, moving very slowly, and most of Houston is expected to go 3 days without electricity. Put differently, according to the findings of this emergency meeting, the storm is supposed to be “catastrophic.” There remains a possibility that it becomes a hurricane by the time it makes landfall.
The projections that are out on the local stations right now are allegedly 1/3 of the reality of the situation in an effort to curb widespread panic. He also told me that FEMA and the National Guard are already in NOLA in case there is a repeat of 2005, or something similar.
Harvey is supposed to arrive in Houston sometime late afternoon/evening on Friday. If this information looks to remain accurate over the next 36 hours, you might want to consider making arrangements to work from home on Friday.
I will let you know if I am made aware of any other relevant inside information. Be safe.
Thanks for posting this Nancy, this is alot more serious than what it looks like right now, its going to be a horrible weekend and week with all this rain thats going to sitting over us. Prayers for everyone thats going to be having to deal with this Hurricane and the aftermath of it. |

Been thinking about GLP I know that she lives somewhere in the Corpus Christi area or close by, does anybody know how to check on her? I know shes getting ready for all this to hit, just hope that all is well with her and family/horsesΒ Β
Aww, thanks Roxie. I am taking a break from preparations. I appreciate the thoughts and prayers, they are mightily appreciated. With elderly and injured/sick family members we are hunkering down and have turned all the horses into the brushy pastures in hopes that they will have some kind of wind break. Luckily, our place is on a little hill. Well, a flatlandets kind of hill. |

Location: Wyoming | My mom and grandparents live in Victoria... my mom evacuated with her dogs but my grandparents refuse to budge even with the mandatory evacuation. They have my old 33 year old roping horse and pony at their house. I wish they would let me get a friend to pick the horses up and take them somewhere safe but they are extremely hardheaded and think that they will be ok since they have lived in their house for 40+ years. Hopefully they will stay safe, I can't do anything living in Wyoming :( |

I know , just going to be really scary for everyone, I just pray theres not going to be any deaths from this hurricane.. I can understand why some dont leave been there a few times myself growning up in hurricane prone areas. But now adays the old timers are the ones that will be better perpared and know the lay out of the land. I just hope the ones staying have the means of taking care of themselves if they cant get out for 3 or 4 days. |

| My mom is in Seadrift but she left today. We have sat out a few of these but nothing this big. I would not be surprised if it levels her house. The amount of rain fall they are predicting is insane. |

| Prayers for everyone, especially the people in Victoria. We have good friends there and they won't evacuate because they don't want to leave their livestock. They are afraid if they leave it will be awhile before they can get back home. What if their animals need them, down fence, water well needs repairs, that kind of thing, is what worries them. |
