Location: Feeding mosquitos, FL | Unadilla arena is full already if everybody that has called and reserved a stall shows up. I haven't heard if Perry fairgrounds is opening up or not. They usually do. There are a couple of arenas near Dothan, AL that may be a possibility - Southern Cross and Tumbleweed. Jacksonville is opening (and Tryon, NC but that's a haul and a half). ABAC in Tifton may be a possibility.
Health certificates are waived but Coggins tests are still required. And stop at the Ag station! When I lived down South, I did not know you had to stop at the ag station even if you weren't crossing the state line and had to learn the hard way. |

| I wish I were closer and no advice. We deal with snow, not hurricanes.
Sending prayers. |

I've closely monitored mikes weather page on facebook, he goes by NOAA, best weather guy out there, he gives live updates at 9am and 9pm. His models are usually spot on, the problem is the euro model shows it going east and the other shows it taking a turn more west, so there is NO safe place to run right now.... this is unfortunately going to be a last minute decision and we will be stuck in traffic I'm sure.
Why is this going to be a last minute decision, if you wait for the last minute to decide what to do then its to late, I would be calling right now finding a place for my horses and packing up now while the traffic is not bad yet and leave.. |

Location: Missouri | As a person who does NOT live in a hurricane area, I pray for you all and hope you all stay safe. I see people post ( who are like me and have no clue what it is like) that they would leave ahead of the storm but what about the people who have cattle or livestock that requires more trailer than what they have - would you pick and choose which ones would stay or which ones you would leave? I know it would be really hard for my husband and I to leave due to the cattle, someone would need to check on them or I guess you could cut down fences and open gates so they could at least have a chance to get somewhere safe. What I am trying to say, is people can say what someone else should do but until you are in there shoes how do you know what is best to do.
Yes human life is not replaceable and take care of your self so you can take care of your animal. Prayers for you all in the path of Irma and to those in Tx and La cleaning up after Harvey. |

The Covington center arena in Andalusia Al will usually open to take horses and people. They have over 400 stalls and hookups. Andalusia is just across the Alabama line north of Destin Fl. I text the owner tonight and asked if they would be open. I should have a response in the morning.
I may be going to destin, can you give me this info just in case?
They just posted that they will not be opening due to up coming shows. Garrett Colosseum in Montgomery Al will be open and I was told it would be free of charge. |

| Wow, upgraded to a category 5, I can't even imagine the destruction. Harvey was a 4 and the town where it hit is demolished, 25% of it is just gone and the rest is severely damaged. |

| This does not sound good AT ALL - talking like a storm as bad as in the 1930's. I have a friend who's son is in St. Kitt's at vet school and they are in the direct path before it reaches the US. If I was in Florida. I'd be heading north and not waiting.
Prayers for all in it's path. |

This storm isn't going to hit until Sunday/Monday, if I leave it will be tomorrow or Friday, that's plenty of time even with traffic to get somewhere. Unfortunately we cannot leave yet, finances job won't allow it (yes I know stupid) I made reservations in perry just hope I can find someone or somewhere to take the horses as they've been doing a first come first serve thibg. I still have to board up windows, and get sandbags, pack important documents etc. I have been there many many hurricanes and bad storms, this isn't my first rodeo. I just don't want to run to a place that may get hit also, Georgia. The direct path of storm is still unknown and I don't have the money to go on a weeks vacation with horsss, dogs, and a 4 year old child right now. So I'm still waiting. |

Making the decision to leave is NOT easy, especially with the full contingent of animals we tend to collect. We still have to work, we still have to prepare our houses and barns, and hurricanes are anything but predictable. And expensive even if you do stay home. I'll spare you my hay, gas, windstorm deductible ranting. You gotta do what's best for you - we'll be staying unless the models push her west. But, if she does come west, we're prepared to leave. And we'll make that decision at the last minute. |

What a lot of people don't realize is that the farther you go, the harder it is to get back in, trees are down on roads, power lines, and the authorities don't care if you live there or not they won't let you through. Looting is huge too, people will go through your house, shed, yard in a hot minute, so if it's not bad enough I will stay! These house are usually built to withstand the wind. Our wind mitigation report is 175-200mph winds, by the time it reaches land it will go down to a cat 3, yes still scary but we get worse thunderstorms down here in the afternoons sometimes!
Then the traffic coming home....horses stuck in the hot hot trailers for hours, even with windows down its hot and fans. Just don't want to go unless it's the last option or a direct hit.
I turn mine out and they huddle together butts to the wind, it will be a fast moving storm, not like Texas. |
