I absolutely love my corgi ava. She is great around the horses, and my 4 year old daughter. She always plays with the cat, and they will go at it for HOURS which wears the both of them out lol
That picture was obviously taken after the HOURS spent with the cat---look at that tongue  |

We visited some dachshunds in a rescue this evening and I fell in love with an adult deaf standard male (super chill and sweet!) and a 12 week old mini female puppy. The male is mostly house trained and the pup is pee pad trained. I've never had a deaf dog? Anyone have experience? Which would you choose?
I know the deaf male would fit in well with my two other dogs, but my concern is what if he gets out the door or gets away and can't hear me call him to come back? The puppy could be trained how I want her to be trained but she's a puppy and would likely annoy my older dogs I have currently.
I think if you adopted both you would make it work perfectly

| My family has 6 Doxies total. They are such fun dogs and all have their own personalities which I love. Two of our dachshunds would rather stay inside, the rest LOVE the outdoors, from farm work, to horse shows, and even hunting. I have worked with my dachshund puppy on cues and he follows me well now and listens good. He loves horse shows and loves being down the barn with me and all of the horses are good with him. He also will follow me on my rides! lol Only cons of a doxie is they are hard to house train my puppy took about 4 months til he stopped completely but he also is still intact. Also not all of them like kids so expose them to kids early, out of our 6, 2 males don't really like kids and our one female doesn't, But the others love them!  |

You say you had a corgi before...If you got another...would you be comparing it to the first...even unintentionally?
I have a weenie pup. Sophie is the BEST little weenie pup ever. But once she passes (hopefully many many years from now!)...I likely will not get another weenie. There's no way another could fill her shoes. (paws). I know I'd be comparing them and that's not fair to the new one.
So...if you had a corgi you loved...and you are considering a weenie pup....I say go with the weenie pup for the variety. And they truly are sweet and awesome!
Oh my goodness this is an excellent point... the corgis I see that I want look just like my old corgi (red headed tri with white markings ). I'm afraid I would likely compare it to him because when I think of getting another corgi I basically want a repeat of him. So that could be a disappointment. I had a border collie as a child that I loved dearly but I never plan to own another one so I understand where you're coming from on this. Definitely something to consider.
Maybe I could get a weenie dog and fall in love with it to help heal my broken heart from losing my corgi boy and later I could think about a corgi.
I've had 3 Corgis so far, all at different times. I lost the first one and didn't think I wanted another one, would compare to her too much. After about 2 mos, I just missed her so dang much & got a male instead & he was the sable. (first was red headed tri). After the last one got old & passed, I got another female, another tri. Each has had their own personality & I never once compared to the last one. I sometimes tell the current one that she has some of the spirit of the other 2 in her if she does something that reminds me of them. LOVE my Corgis. The one I have now hardly sheds at all - but have her on Taste of the Wild small breed, she gets coconut oil, and brewers yeast & I think that helps. |

Location: Texas | The corgis that I have had practically potty trained themselves, but that hair OMG!
I had one mini dachshund for about a week and had to rehome him...he was given to me because he was impossible to potty train, and I just could not deal with it.
My father-in-law had the sweetest standard dachshund in the world and I would have no problems having another like him, but he did shed. A LOT.
I do not like yappy dogs, so some dachshunds are yappy-er that others.
I loved the toughness of my corgis (but that hair!)
I have a non-shedding terrier cross adopted mutt now and he is MR AWESOME!

bahaha it was actually taken as we were heading home from visiting grandma. She was chasing the chickens, but her tongue cracks me up every time i see the picture  |

Location: Where the long tails flow, ND | My mom's rescue is deaf. She has worked with her a ton as far as hand signals- and obviously keeps her in a fenced in yard when she is outside. She has gotten away occasionally but always looks back at her at least once, and if you wave your hands she comes right back. If she doesn't look back - she just runs until you can get her attention. Kind of scary but it's been almost 9 years and their system has worked!
I always feel terrible scaring her when she is sleeping, I try to stomp lightly on the floor to wake her, or flick the lights to get her attention. Somehow you just make it work!

Location: in the middle of backwoods iowa | ?I have 3 mini doxies- all with different personalites. They are tough, lovers, like to snugge and 10 feet tall if you ask them! They are stubborn but soo worth it! And all 3 have tolerated my now 6 yo growing up and torturing them. Only my old black long hair growled- and only once.

Location: Oklahoma | Chiweenie mix actually , if wanting a house dog , not as big as full Doxie , not as stubborn but still has a lot of Doxie traits , not as fragile as full Chi. More athletic than full Doxie , quite able to jump in vehicles , on bed ,brave, not loud ,very much lovebugs and friendly.
I like the mini Aussie/Corgi mixes too better than full Corgis for a smaller dog . |

Location: Randolph, Utah | Corgi! But I now have a Borgi and I love her! Her attitude is much better than my old corgi. ?? I love that their small enough to be in the house, but big enough to go ride and move cows. The shedding is super annoying though! We have a chihuahua/wiener dog and he's a loyal sweet dog. But oh my god he's yappy, and does not like kids. |

Location: Texas | I have a long hair dachshund, he is great! He loves to go, has a huge personality. He doesn't bark like most. He thinks he is a big dog like my heeler. He loves to be outside and play and will play rough. He is a great alert dog, people are scared of him, even though he is harmless. I will probably never have another one after him though. He was my first and last small dog. I want another heeler or a aussie. |

Anyways they are hard headed and they usually pick their person! mine loves both me and hubby (we have no kids) but you know who their person is for sure! Also whoever has the hot dogs or blanket lol On the potty training the easiest for me was the doggie door! and crates! |

He's flown on planes all over the country and people never even know he is in the carrier. At the same time, he loves doing chores and going to the barn. He has longer legs than a mini dachshund and I think this makes him a lot more athletic. He's also great with kids. |

| I am definitely a Dachshund person. Less shedding which is a big deal for me. Mine is also not yappy, doesn't pee when excited, ect. She is basically perfect but I know I'm partial. Corgis are cute but I would not be able to deal with the hair! |

The male is a little macho turd and hard headed...but one of the most loveable dogs, my female is the BEST!!! She is a lover and the sweetest. I cant wait to have puppies out of them! |

Location: Montgomery TX | We got a mini-weenie in November - she is absolutely the best!! Super sweet and lovableand snuggly. She's not yappy and loves playing with the kids, they are 11 and 5 and I have multiple nieces and nephews of all ages coming and going and she gets along with all of them great. I worried about her being a farm dog, but she takes every step I take, whether at the house or around the barn. She follows me on trail rides, and if she gets tired, I load her up horseback. She loves to go - when she hears the truck or the ranger start up, she comes running to load up. We also have a yellow lab and the two of them are BFF's!!! |
