Sending prayers for Josie. Big dogs are so hard on their joints. I had a bull mastiff that tore both ACLs and Minisucses four times. Please update when your baby is in recovery. Prayers to you as well, mama.
What surgery did you do and how did she heal after? |

He had whatever the standard surgery was. I don't recall what they called it, but they basically went in and sutured things back together. He initially tore just one side. After surgery he tore the other side. Another surgery. Re-tore the initial knee. They went back in and used a stronger type of suture. He was healing pretty well after the last surgery and things were holding together but, of course, one day he was running and fell in a hole. He re injured the second knee he tore. Vet said to put him down because it was just going to continue happening. He ended up healing rather beautifully on his own. Had a hitch in his giddyup, but he lived a full life until cancer took him.
It does sound like Josie is having a different surgery. But she will be bionic afterwards! I think plates and screws would make her joint much stronger. I wouldn't recommend the suturing.
Edited to add: we used the best vet around, but even after having his staples removed, I was "finding" and pulling staples out that they overlooked. So maybe the vet wasn't as great as he seemed...

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | Many prayers for you! Your messages were so kind while I was dealing with my Audie mess. Hoping she has a fast recovery. My dad's lab had to have both stifle joints (whatever those are called on a dog) replaced when she was really young. She is at least 10 or so now and still does short pheasant hunts, but not close together. She recovered well and had a very good life after. |

It's a pretty good amount but I've always had a vet savings account for the animals.Ive always said if I own them I owe them. Its my responsibility to give them what they need.I always become very attached to my rottis, the breeding has really went down hill unfortunately.I love this dog so much I can't imagine being without her.I know that day will come, but until then she's my girl and I owe her.:) |

I love Rotties too. I had a super neat one when I was in HS. Macho was his name. Would love to have another some day. |

Best wishes for Josie and my little friend, Patch, who goes in the morning to have tumors removed. I wouldn't worry as much if it weren't that he's an older guy and it will be tougher for that reason.
Here's hoping for a good day for our pals.
Please let us know tomorrow how Patch is feeling after he's "patched" up---Lord what is wrong with me lately
Seriously, prayers and best wishes for your boy |

I'm so so glad for you and her--I have a Josie too (she's a throw away Chandler found starving in the woods), and she was sending good thoughts also!!! |

I just took him in for surgery this morning and he was not a happy guy. Patch is a deep brown Cocker Spaniel, not exactly what I would go pick but abandoned dogs pick us. He is adorable. Patch has an ugly embedded tumor in his rectum that just had to go. I'll let you know. Thanks for asking about him. |
