| Barbie's wearing hijabs do not effect me personally and I wouldn't purchase one. With that said, aside from showing their business supports diversity, I cannot imagine these Barbie's will sell at the same magnitude as others. So in that sense, I don't think it is the smartest decision.
There is a lot of hatred for the muslim religion and I believe people are sensitive to it due to some of the accommodations demanded by those who believe that way. That is frustrating I think for some of us. I also believe there are a lot of misunderstandings with that religion. For example, "radical muslims" who use their religion as an excuse to commit acts of violence.
It is a sensitive spot for most. |

Location: Kansas | One miserably hot day last July I was at Texas Roadhouse and watched a Muslim woman dressed in a long dark robe of some sort with a brocade scarf around her head, neck and shoulders getting out of the car. Her husband was dressed in a tank top, shorts and sandals as were the kids. Convince me she was comfortable or that any of us born in the U.S would put up with this. It wasn't her choice. It was her husbands that she dressed like a monk on a 105 degree day. Somewhere under all that garb may have been a lovely figure. |

So you think she is forced, against her will, into this religion? I'm really confused as to the point you are trying to make with this tread. |

Location: Missouri | I Corinthians 11:5-10 But every wife who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since it is the same as if her head were shaven. For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head. For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man. For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. ... There is alot of things in our Christian Bible that we do not as a society adhere to anymore. But back in the day apparently women were supposed to cover their heads. There are other verses about dressing modestly as well.
Don't read anything into this as me sympathizing with the Muslim Religion. My opinion is if they want to dress that way they can. Nobody is gonna tell me how to dress. |

This has nothing to do with her religion. It has to do with the repression of her rights as a female human being. |

love2ridepre - 2017-11-15 2:30 PM I came to the States at the age of 18. I knew it was going to be a bit of cultural shock and it was going to take a while to adjust to my new home. Granted that I came here voluntarily and from Europe but still, I never tried to impose my culture to anyone. IMHO when you go to another country, you adjust and RESPECT the customs of such country (now at your own house you do whatever you want to of course). Now, being the devil's advocate, The United States has always been "a melting pot of different cultures" right?. Nonetheless, things lately have gotten so out of hand. The notion of ENTITLEMENT has taken over everything and everyone, so sad :( it has always been a melting pot of cultural backgrounds that assimilated into American Cultural norms
we had a lot less problems before we had Hyphenated Americans.
Agreed. Why can't we all just be "Americans" that are proud of our diverse heritage yet are happy (and truly blessed) to be in this great country? Realize that our neighbors may be different and have different customs than we do, but welcome them with open arms and befriend them nonetheless? Don't try to change things that were in place before we came here that offered everyone the same freedoms.

LOL! I just snorted and I too am procrastinating. Why can't they or their moms make a hijab? We used to make almost all of our doll's clothes. How else could Barbie have a REAL cowgirl outfit to wear to the rodeo where she would out-rope and out-ride all of the boys? |

Have you ever spoken to a Muslim female? I haven't to a ton but have a few and they do it because it's what they believe in. It's similar to some not have sex before marriage or praying every night before bed. It's a part of their belief system and culture. My sister does hair for and she has spoken to many and it's important to them.
I'm sure there are some forced into it just as their is domestic violence in Christian relationships. |

I totally missed something somewhere. I thought the idea of Muslim women immigrating to the U.S. was to enjoy the freedoms American women do......but now we have Barbie dolls wearing scarves around their head and shoulders so the little girls from Islamic countries living here in the U.S. won't feel left out. So why did they come here?
They came here for ALL THE "FREE" STUFF! |

You don't want those innocent little girls to be happy? I doubt they chose to come here all on their own.
Weather they had a choice or not, someone made that decision for them, they are HERE now and we should not change our culture to make them feel more comfortable. If I moved to Saudi Arabia, I would NOT expect anyone to make any compromises for me either.
So you would be comfortable assimilating to the muslim religion if you moved to a muslim country?
My great aunts husband was in the oil industry. They moved to Saudi Arabia for 10 years. No, they didn’t convert to Islam/Muslim. But my aunt did have to wear a hijab, couldn’t go out without a man with her and she was forced to assimilate to their culture by their society over there.
As for Barbie wearing a hijab...I personally think this was a huge Marketing Fail on Mattel’s part. I’m sure no hard core Muslim family is going to be pleased when someone in the house comes across a naked Barbie in all her big boob glory. If they were trying to break into a new market...they are going to have to glue the clothes onto Barbie so they can’t come off. |
