runfastturnsmooth - 2018-02-07 1:23 PM Well I don't know of any people that have made this exact cross or if anyone has had any success with Metallic Cat on the mare side. But Elizabeth Lund (correct if I am wrong but bc i so don't remember if she was the agent or buyer) had two Metallic Cat embryos out of a daughter of Firewater Flit that sold for 20k each at one of those triangle sales. I so don't remember which one. The above is the only time I've ever heard of someone trying to market Metallic Cat breeding in the barrel scene.
Lindsey has two out of Martha and there might be 3.Â
Also other top gals have them too.Â
Amy Schmitke has had huge success on hers. Â
I don't keep up with most rodeo horses.
Didn't know Amy had a Metallic Cat. Anyone have the pedigree?

Did BabyFlo not get crossed on him too? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I wonder how that foal looks too. |

I'm interested in seeing MC in the barrel pen... I believe FT has a filly out of MC X Babyflo.... I have been curious how MC would cross on mares with running bloodlines.Â
I'm assuming mine was a tester colt as he was one of MC's first foals, but they crossed him on an appendix mare and he was very very VERY athletic. Super pretty. Big and solid. A little quirky and on the hotter side. Couldn't get the sucker sound though, so down the road he went |

Location: Gainesville, TX | A Streak of Fling has been known to cross alright on some foundation/cow lines like Colonel Freckles. I haven't heard anything about Metallic Cat. If you had that to spend and just insisted on it right now (as versus later when she has some earnings in some area) I think I would spend it on a quiet minded stud that would potentially add some run. Shawne Bug Leo is a really nice stallion that would add some size, potential speed, and his do sell alright, at least they were this last year, in case you decided down the line not to keep it. Plus I think with his size, IF you sold it or wanted to do something different, you could make a pretty good all around horse with it for roping or some such. |

She does have a point like this horse Scamper has DM Streak ABoo was a stand out in futurities for the Chiltons and has made a nice open horse for her. http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/dm+streak+aboo
Not that Berts Aboo is strictly cow other than the bottom side but it is still a nice cross and T. Green has a DTF outta that mare this year that is nice as well. |

I see absolutely nothing wrong with a run x cow/foundation/performance (I see FWF and FG for instance as more performance lines) cross. I think it's a great way to go in many instances. But this is not about crossing run x cow but crossing a couple lines that both have a reputation for spirited temperaments. You might just end up with a horse that has a hard time settling their mind down for barrel racing. There is no particular promise that crosses like this will produce that but it is something to be conscious of. I have been around several Metallic Cat and Highbrow Cat bred horses. They weren't bad horses but definitely were pretty spirited. I have met some real nice minded ASOFs but I have seen more that were spirited. My impulse would be to try and balance that trait and not double up on it. Spirit can be a really great thing and sometimes it can be too much of a great thing. The fact she had Playgun on the bottom side would make me a little more supportive.

Not sure lol. I have been on several large cutting farms and shows and ridden a few bred like that. They were pretty high energy. I am just going with what I know. I am sure you can find someone else that would tell you different because in the horse world you can always find someone who will. I always thought they were some neat horses but high energy. Just my perception. People can take it or leave it.
ETA: Based on my previous post that I hadn't 'heard' anything about Metallic Cat, I haven't heard a lot of people talk much about his reputation for barrels. All I know is what I have seen.

Our HBC isn't "spirited" if that is what you want to call it. I would put our grandchild on her. Now, put her in the pasture and she will be the boss and isn't afraid to attack like a stallion after another stallion.
Recently at our last show in Augusta we were around quite a few MC's and HBC's. The best in the industry. As in all horses, some are more of a handful then others. Pretty spirited? Nope, not the right word. |

That is good to know. These were just the ones I saw and a good bit may have been from the bottom side too. And you are 100% right in that every line has different types. You certainly can't argue with their win record.

Location: TX | Lindsey had a fb video of one of her Mc out of Martha. Baby was already running and "cutting" up in his pen. He looked like he was going to be plenty quick and athletic, granted he was only a few weeks old.
I personally love the idea of mc in the barrel pen, and think we are going to see some nice ones that some of the pro girls are raising. Itwould depend on the mare herself who I'd breed too, but as others have said asof is known to sometimes sire a hotter personality so I'm not sure I'd cross that with the already sometimes very sensitive cutting types. Do you have a picture of her we can see? Depends on your mare in particular though.
Mc has a son, metallic rebel that's also really nice I've actually been considering for a mare. A huge thing would be conformation as others have stated. If I were going to breed to your proposed cross, I'd want the mare to be pretty proven herself, and for your stallion to prove himself to prove she can produce. Not trying to be harsh on that, just giving honest feedback as there are so many stallions out there. Do love both those bloodlines though, would be interesting how they'd cross. |
