I just bought the Quic Silver shampoo for my palomino. She's not flaxen but very silvery. Hopefully, it takes the gunk out.

I know a lady who had two white flag horses that carried flags in the rodeo.  She use to wash them with Wisk laundry detergent...  not sure how good that is for their skin, but her horses got washed like twice a weekend all summer long and never had an issue...

Wisk is what sailors use to keep their shipboard "whites" clean and WHITE ..

It works on horses too .. do two shampooing jobs and let each soak and
if you can .. do it with the sun shining.

After rinsing the 2nd shampoo out ...
put human hair conditioner on it to ward off a lot of dirt and soften it ..
rinse and it will look really white when it dries

and if you haven't noticed most white manes and tails feels like human hair.

The purple "blueing" shampoo doesn't whiten hair...it is just an "optical brightener"... you need to remove the stains before you use that purple shampoo.

Take a cup of baking soda and dissolve that in a gallon of warm water in a bucket.

Soak the tail for a few minutes, working it through the stained tail and swishing the tail well in the mixture….this will cause the hair cuticle to swell and assist lifting out the build up.

Then rinse the tail with clean warm water.

Follow with a rinse of 50:50 white vinegar and water, this will neutralize the hair again, and it will feel softer.

Then…shampoo the tail with your regular shampoo (or the purple one) and work through the tail.

Rinse off with warm water, then condition really well.

It may take a couple of times to get the stains out. But it works. Then maybe consider a tail bag for protecting it. I like the one Biomane sells. It stays on and is very simple to use. It has the added benefit of a few strips of material for them to swish flies with.

this. Baking soda and white vinegar is the BEST for so many things!
