My mare fractured hers in 2 places in 2016. 8 months of stall rest 6 month of pasture and light exercise. She is now a 1d/2d barrel horse again and has never had a lame day since. Vet told me when she did it she would probably never be able to compete again but she proved them wrong and FULLY recovered. Only supplement she was on was animed bone builder and back on track products! Don't give up hope my horse is a walking testimony!

How did you figure out it was fractured? Just curious as to if it was a traumatic injury, seemed off in hind, etc.

Ultra sound and xrays were done. Through the ultra sound we were able to locate two fractures. Due to her big ol booty and heavy muscling an xray view taken from the top down was not able to penetrate enough to get a good enough view ot see where or if there was a 3rd fracture. Apparently it's common to have three fractures with this type of injury. The vet school's bone scan machine was down and we didn't want to risk putting her on the table and causing more risk to injury to obtain a good x ray view so we went with the findings from the ultra sound.

I more then likely found her not long after it happened as there wasn't a lot of swelling or edema yet. she was non-weight baring on her back right side. She would not walk and would only pivot around. The small amount of edema she had in the location around the point of the tubular coxae when I found her had me concerned of possible fracture to pelvis. She also exhibited similar signs to colic due to the pain she was in. Ie biting at her side, warm, respiratory was elevated etc.
