We haven’t seen blue sky in days due to the smoke.  These fires are completely devastating.  I keep praying that someone in a position of power will start to ask why there is so much fuel being allowed to remain on public lands when we could be utilizing the trees and vegetation.  We need to increase grazing numbers and harvesting timber so these fires don’t run out of control.  Life lost and millions of acres blackened is not ok and it’s not working.  We can do better at managing the land than allowing everything to burn.

Most of these areas are brush covered hills with scattered oaks. They burn like gasoline. Years ago the state did a lot of control burning in the winter. They don’t do that much anymore. I think animals are being evacuated to Cottonwood and Red Bluff. We are checking to send hay where it is best needed. Between that fire, and the ones near Clear Lake there is a lot of help needed.

THANK YOU for all you do to help the horses ,we need more people like you.

There are a lot of good folks helping in Northern CA. Those who volunteer their time to care for evacuated animals are the real heroes. I am always impressed by how many people step up to spend day and night caring for animals owned by people that they don’t even know.

My SIL is one of the heads at Yellowstone and she does (when she can) burning.    The people back "East" won't let them burn like they want to.  It is another group of "do gooders" who think it should be left "wild" and not hurt the "animals, flora, etc".  The lobbyist are huge to stop burning.  So many lives and animals could be saved if they let them do prescribed burning.

She also fights fire.  She and her friends are brave people.  I can't  imagine the devastation that that she has seen.

Thankfully the wind is coming out of the south the last couple of days and bringing some much needed humidity with it which is helping fire fighters on the CARR fire get some containment. The one blessing that has come from this is the way this community and surrounding counties have come together, people with very little have pitched in to help move animals. One woman pulled up the other night at the Tehama District Fairgrounds with a car load of buckets, she bought everything the local TSC had, pulled them out and wrote her name on the larger ones saying "if I could get these back that would be great but if not I hope they are needed." I was so thankful for those big buckets as we had a Clydesdale in one of the stalls with 2 very small buckets he could barely fit his muzzle into. All the volunteers were constantly walking by his stall to see if the little buckets needed topped off. Another young woman with 2 toddlers spent Saturday night till 3 am helping haul animals out of the evacuation zones, she rarely gets to go to shows and races herself but there she was helping others. So many people pitching in and if they can't get there physically to help, keeping an eye out on social media for help needed posts and relaying them to sites that are able to get there.

I think the ones that own animals and livestock have such a huge heart when others need help. You can always count on a horsey person

We are south of Redding about 30 miles though the southern edge of the fire has creeped a little close for complete comfort. I know people in Redding last week about this time never dreamed that this fire would get to them. Fire does what Fire wants. The way everyone has pulled together has been a thing of beauty, everyone pitching in where and how they can. Its going to be a long process and there is another big fire south of us about 1.5 hours, I know the people that were doing transports of animals up here are splitting duties now.

Not to derail the thread, but if you haven't seen Only the Brave, in their honor you need to.   Prepare though to have your heart broken.

Yep, I squalled. So sad. God bless these firefighters and all the people on the frontlines.

To Mr Win and RNR---bless you for your service and effort for these animals and their owners. I can only imagine how much better I would feel if I had to leave one of my kids and had the assurance that people like y'all were there for them. It would let me concentrate on other things with peace of mind. Good folks are still in our midst. . . .

Flipping channels this morning and listened to a grandpa who lost both his grandkids before he could get to them.  A fire tornado lifted the roof and dropped it back on them.  He was talking to his grandson just a little bit earlier who asked grandpa to hurry.  It was too much to listen too. Not a dry eye at CNN or me either.  whew.  This is a tough tough life.

The Carr fire is starting to get containment but still praying for those in the Lewiston area especially.
Also, thought this was a very touching photo taken down in Lake County...to me this is what it means to be a pet owner. She had a car but it had a flat tire so loaded up what she could in a wheelbarrow and got her dog.

I understand firefighters from Australia and New Zealand are assisting.  There should be more help from the countries we're so willing to help when they have disasters like this.

I know firefighters from San Antiono and my area and from other surrounding towns are going to help so they can give the firefighters a break that have been fighting these fires non stop. But now since these fires have merge together these fire fighters will hardly get any breaks..And it would be nice if other countrys would/did pitch in, sure do need all the help that they can get.

From what I heard this week on the fires was when California has a wet winter or spring...one or the other then you have abundance of growth.......and over the years that builds up...and burning is not allowed.....got to protect that owl or bird js....dry spell comes along.....you have the recipe for what we are seeing...... and the main areas burning have not had a controlled burn in 40 years, then people move in...
So is natural just doing what natural does.......

As the saying goes "log it, graze it, or watch it burn..." So sad what environmentalist have done in the name of keeping our environment clean and healthy. But at the same time we as a society have to take some responsibility too, we want solitude and we build our homes out away from others in places that are sometimes hard to get to, one little road leading in and out and sometimes we arent' very good about keeping a defensible space around that home. When you choose to live 45 minutes to an hour away from services you also have to realize that it is going to take that long if not more for help to arrive when the feces hits the cooling system.
