Nateracer - 2019-10-24 7:58 AM Wouldn't offend me! I would love to go hog hunting, but we don't have them here. I thought they were everywhere! Come see us--we have plenty and will share the shooting with you!! They killed 9 of 14 out of the first bunch, then got 2 more in a different area. They've been going several nights a week lately, but like someone else said, doesn't even make a dent. . .

They're calling them the Possums now---they play dead at home and get killed on the road. . . I know, I know, that's terrible!!!! |

Location: In The Land of Cotton | These figures are from 2016. A hog produces every 3, months, 3 weeks and 3 days. They can have up to 21 in a litter. They won't ever get them under control. From the USDA web page. Feral swine cause major damage to property, agriculture (crops and livestock), native species and ecosystems, and cultural and historic resources. In fact, this invasive species costs the United States an estimated $1.5 billion each year in damages and control costs. Feral swine also threaten the health of people, wildlife, pets,... |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Wild hog meat is NASTY , I have eaten plenty and now when someone offers us sausage or ribs, I just kindly tell them thank you BUT NO Thank you, you can hunt them all you want too out here but you can just keep the meat. Alot of my back pasture gets rooted by wild pigs and they really do a number on it, I have someone that comes out here every once in a while to try to level it out for me, some of the holes are so deep that you can just about get lost in them, really hard on my tractors.. |

I'm thinking our California vineyard grown pigs must be quite a bit different than the Texas hogs! lol We won't even bother with the really obnoxiously huge ones, but the smaller ones make pretty great sausage! |

The wild hogs will eat alot of gross stuff and knowing what they will eat is just a big turn off for me, lol.. I had to stop putting out deer feeders because of the wild hogs, they would run off the deer and eat all the corn and rip up my ground. I'll see if I can find any pictures, I always would set up game cameras to see what deer were hanging around.

Location: Arkansas | emricmacy - 2019-10-25 4:02 PM OP- Do you kill them and use their meat, or just kill them? The smaller sows, sometimes sausage is made from them. And there are people in our area that will take big or small, sow or boar if you let them know you've killed a hog. Chandler's father hunted them a lot when we were married; he hunted MS and AR. He killed several in the 400 to 500 lb range--all boars. I cannot make those of you that aren't familiar with wild hogs know how these things smelled. . . I'm not a puker, but I couldn't stand it. Dear Lord it was awful. But a man that worked for daddy on the farm took them and said they would be used for the family Thanksgiving and Christmas. Wanted to know if we wanted any sausage when they made it---Chris said "no thank you, Thurman, y'all enjoy"!!!
