| Right now, I'm saying no.. but I know better than to say I'll never. That being said... I don't take a flu shot either, never had 1 and don't ever plan on getting one any time soon. I've also never had the flu or any sickness so bad that I was down for more than a day. I do believe in a strong immune system and trying to keep that up with taking care of my health. Same with my kids ... they had routine vaccines as babies but we don't get them flu shots either. I sure hope they don't try to make these mandatory. I kind of don't see that happening, despite what I've heard and read. |

I don't even take the flu shot, so....................I also don't think it's been tested long enough. So, that's my reasoning.
My exact reasons! |

And Dems are blaming the Republican's for giving them the covid at the Capital last week..The Dems have gone flat out crazy!!!!

I'm torn. I don't get a flu shot because I rarely ever get the flu. That said I don't get colds very often either but when I do they almost always turn in to a wicked case of bronchitis that I have a hard time getting rid of. That gives me a bit of concern about what covid would do to my body since my lungs react that badly to a cold virus.
The reason I'm concerned about getting the vaccine is that I've been told that an allergy to penicillin is a contraindication and could cause a reaction to the vaccine. It's something I feel needs to be discussed with my Dr. before I decide. But I'd love to hear Bear's opinion on it if he's willing to offer it.
If you have a history of anaphylaxis to any medication, then you shouldn't get the vaccine. Also, if you have a history of severe, immediate reactions besides anaphylaxis that occur within minutes of receiving any medication you shouldn't get the vaccine. By that, I mean severe hives (urticaria) or angioedena (swelling of face, lips, tongue, etc..) within minutes of taking a medication or getting a vaccine. Also if you happen to be allergic to polyethylene glycol you shouldn't receive it. Anaphylaxis is immediate, life threatening swelling that compromises the airway. That's what epi pens are used for. If you've had an anaphylactic reaction you know it. There's nothing specific about penicillin allergy that is a contraindication, unless you've had an anaphylactic reaction.
Most penicillin allergies are things like rashes that come on slowly after taking penicillin. Some so called "allergies" aren't really allergies. They are things like upset stomach, vomiting, or diarrhea. A lot of people were told that they developed a rash after receiving penicillin as an infant or toddler. A lot of those were not really allergies, but there's no way of knowing for sure.
Does that help?
Thanks Bear, that does help. I don't know that I would call my reaction severe but I was I child and I was tramatized by it . It was an immediate reaction and there was facial swelling and hives. so many hives. I've also had immediate and weird reactions to other antibiotic shots over the years and reactions to oral medications that are a bit outside the norm. The only vaccine I've had as an adult was tetanus and the only reaction to that was feeling like someone smacked me in the arm with a baseball bat the next day. I will chat with my Dr. and if I decide to get the vaccine maybe do it in her office with medical professionals present instead of in the drive through line that is the "norm" here.
I appreciate your information, it is very helpful.
That sounds pretty severe. Most likely "angioedema" that I described. If that's the case, I doubt your doctor would recommend it. I know I wouldn't. |

I think you are right, I saw this on the news today which makes sense if you are flying abroad, The Vaccine will be required to travel abroad, since the vaccine just became available it can be several months befor we see needing a vaccine as a requirement to fly commercial. |

Is it the lady was pregnant or does it mean the vaccine caused instantaneous labor? Well these "health impact events" reflect people who experience flu like symptoms, usually lasting less than a day following a Covid vaccine. You see this with other vaccines as well, including influenza. Some of these people might miss a day of work due to those side effects. As much as 15% of the vaccine recipients have one or more troublesome symptoms seen with flu, very rarely lasting more than a day. I've had some people tell me they felt aching all over (myalgias) or headaches that lasted say half a day. On this table, which is 3 weeks old now, less than 3% of those vaccinated had significant symptoms to the extent they were out of commission for probably a day. The vast majority of people just have a sore arm for a day or two, like with other vaccines. As far as pregnancy goes, they haven't studied the vaccine in pregnancy, but they do not consider pregnancy a contraindication to getting the vaccine, if someone wants it. Those 514 people who were pregnant at the time of vaccination were probably discovered to be pregnant after they were vaccinated. The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology does not feel a woman should be advised against vaccination if they are pregnant, but the bottom line is that until we have a prospective trial that looks at vaccinating women during pregnancy, we can't be absolutely certain that it is safe. To my way of thinking, the vaccine is most important to the most vulnerable, first and foremost.....over 65, COPD, heart disease, history of cancer, immune suppressed, etc..... The risk to life in women from Covid of child bearing age is extremely low.

Location: Texas | Most of my family is in health care directly working in hospitals as nurses, hospital intake staff, or is a CRNA (my dad). At least four cousins, my dad, and both of my sisters have received at least one round of the vaccine. I plan to get the vaccine as soon as its available to me. I don't buy into the conspiracies, I understand how vaccines work, and I am OK with the risk of an adverse reaction. So far of my 8-10 family members who have received it, one complained of a sore arm for a day and my little sister had a mild fever for two days but was otherwise fine. I have had too many close calls with clients where the visit is halfway over, I've been working all over their horse as they hold it, and then they mention they're getting over covid. |

Well sure 50 plus years ago, lol.. I'm glad that they come up with a vaccine for the Covid, it well make alot of people feel good and safe when they receive it and I'm happy for them all, but I just dont feel like its for me and thats my choice, but I sure hope and pray that the ones that do get it wont feel so threaten by this horrible virus anymore.. This is something we have been waiting for, and I think President Trump did a great job getting the vaccine out there as fast as he did. |

| Im a PT and my husband a MD. Both got our 2nd vaccine yesterday. We had the one by Pfizer. All we had was a little soreness from injection. No side affects. My husband got covid in early December after diagnosing patients since this began. Do what's best for you but wanted to share we did 1st and 2nd without any problems. My daughter, 18, was able to get one. The first one no problem with her, the 2nd is next week-fingers crossed. I will say some of his office staff got the 1st Moderna and had headaches and vomiting after. Hope it was just them. I was happy with how Pfizer did and hope we are protected. |

Location: North Texas | FLITASTIC - 2021-01-13 2:19 PM I would like to hear valid reasons people have for NOT getting it. Is it all conspiracy theory? Long term side effects we don't know of? Thanks! I am married to Wonderful Woman who is a RN, MSN, with thirty five years experience, and a whole bunch of alphabetial names that I cannot pronounce. That was to estashblish her and my credentials, Anyway, Her belief is the research and testing was extensive enough nor long enough to a window of sorts into the long term effects of this medical vaccine. I am not planning on taking this vaccine for a myriad of reasons. The first and foremost is that Covid 19 aka Corona Virus has a survivabilty rate of 99+%.

I didn't think you have to have a negative COVID test to fly within the United States. Some states and countries require it for entry. But starting on the 26th the CDC has said you have to have a negative covid test to within 72 hours of flying into the US from other countries. https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/s0112-negative-covid-19-air-passengers.html |

Well, people seem to fixate on comparing the covid vaccine to the flu vaccine and then say well since i dont get the flu vaccine, i wont get the covid vaccine.. But why just pick that vaccine to compare it to, when most everyone on this forum received other vaccines in their lifetime. So, I'm just saying.. why pick the one vaccine you choose not to get as your reasoning to not get another vaccine? The flu virus is a notoriously difficult virus to vaccinate against, as it has ton of strains that mix and mutate every year. The vaccine is modified each year to try and guess which strain will be the most virulent and then make a vaccine to fight that presumed strain. Some years they are right, some years they are wrong. Whereas the technology and mechanism of action of the covid vaccine is completely different. |
