| Horses are only worth what someone is willing to pay. If people stop paying the ridiculous prices, they would go down. People want way to much for junk horses. Grade, 18 years old, needs hock injections, has alley issues- $10k. Really? PASS! SMH, it's nuts. |

I'm currently shopping for my next horse and maybe it's just me but horse prices seem to be sky high. I'm starting to feel like I under sold my mare.My question is when selling, how far off of your asking price would you go for the right home and rider?
We've taken 25% off our asking price on a couple horses just to get them into great hands that are capable of making something of them, but didn't have the budget. You can always come down in price, but you can't go back up if you underprice your horse. I would rather take less and get a horse into a fantastic home and program where they will be taken good care of and be given a chance to succeed versus getting full price from someone I know would be a bad fit. I'm not sure what you're searching for OP, but we have a couple coming yearlings that are super nice. |

Location: California | I'm bumping this up because holy heck, I myself was wrong and prices have done nothing but skyrocket! Horses at auctions are bringing in a lot of money, nicely bred halter broke 2-4 year olds are bringing 5-8k, anything with 60 days and up is 10-15k, haven't seen a ranch horse sell for less than 20k recently. Curious what everyone else is seeing, and I'm curious how the pink buckle sell will go this fall! |

Location: Eastern OH but my heart is in WV | I live in Ohio and I have been looking for just a nice gaited trail horse, nothing fancy, does not have to regitered... just a nice safe trail horse. Well you would think I was asking for the moon. I am realistic too, I know no horse is perfect but I don't have $8,000 - $10,000 or more to pay for horse. I have went to look at some but the experiences have been horrible and they still wanted $3500 + for the horses. I seriously want to give-up, this is NOT a buyers market. |

Location: North Central Iowa Land of white frozen grass | Went to the Five Star Select all gelding sale at the Iowa State Fair grounds. 80 head of geldings only. Mostly ranch horses. They averaged $31,200. Top one brought $170,000. My daughter asked what do people do for a living to pay that much for a horse that is going to die someday. |

Location: My happy place | I agree with BS Hauler. We just got back from a sale in Shawnee, OK and prices are crazy. I just can't believe how the market has changed over the years. If you would have told me years ago broke older geldings who have done nothing would be the hot ticket item, I never would have believed it. They were so high the first day I started looking at colts, which were pretty cheap on Friday, not on Saturday. My grand daughter said Nana can't break colts anymore..... she will break her hip. I can, I just don't want to and home alone too much. I did find one, only because I waited until the end of the sale, had no video, picture (which kept internet bidding off) and not much decription. I thought I was done buying horses but I think I found one I really like. |

Location: Randolph, Utah | I've honestly thought about listing my current barrel horse with the way the market it. It's kind of tempting to sell out and call it quits when the market is so high. Everything seems high though, the cost of a horse trailer, trucks, you name it. It's crazy to me. At what point is the bottom going to fall out?? |

It falls out when people wake up and stop buying at these inflated prices. We bought our house in March 2020, right before they shut the country down for COVID, we got a brand new 3bed/2bath ranch on 3 acres for $270k, no fence, no yard, no barn/shop just the house. Now 14 months later our house is valued at $385K with nothing, now that we are adding the fence and the yard, they say we could get $400k for it, and when we add the fire pit and the shop, we could get closer to $500k for it, in todays market. |

Right now since people are willing to pay these prices I am not sure if many people would go much off their asking price...I took advantage of the market when I sold my other mare. Got what I was asking. |

Location: Oklahoma | I price my horses for what I want for them. I do not have a lot of wiggle room in their prices, but someone that doesn't hesitate ends up with a really nice horse and I will work with them. I do MUCH better selling clients' horses than my own, but I talk them through the pricing process and we get their hosres sold. I stay all attached to mine and I can't replce them, so I tend to sit on them. Hoarder here. I do look at a lot of ads and wonder if people are actually getting what they are advertised for. Just depends on the owner's situation and if they have to sell or need to sell. Seems like if there is a have to situation, you may get someone to negotiate more. |

There is a horse trailer shortage due to supply shortages. It's crazy. We have trailer dealers calling us to tell us they are going out of business because they can't get inventory. |
