Haven't heard anything, I PM'd her the other day also. Hope everything went well. I know CC had a hard time coming out of the meds after her surgery was completed. It was a scary 1/2 hour or so. They let me in to see her, everything was good and suddenly she started shivering and her heart rate went thru the roof. They hooked her back up to the IV's to help flush the sedatives, hooked up all the monitors and put her back in the sling. After about 5 minutes of being back on the IV her body calmed back down but we kept her on them for another hour or so.

Talked to her, surgery went well but they had a little set back headed from the surgery room back to the stall, the mare slipped on concrete and injured her hamstring. 90's days stall rest I believe was recommended. Please send prayers out to TACKyPaint and her little mare!!!

After dealing with CC's surgery I can see where this could happen, so glad CC had a Surgery TEch that on the ball and hooked her back up to the sling ASAP when he saw she was having issues coming out of the meds and the epidural. He waited with us in the OR for a few hours and then helped get her back to her stall once she knew where her feet were but still held on to her tail and directed her hips for her.
Anyone have ideas for suggested Therapy for a torn hamstring on a horse?

Thanks so much for giving us the update so glad surgery went well, and what a bummer on the hamstring. If it's not 1 thing it's another with these darn horses. Recovering and coming out of anesthesia is the tricky part half the battle of surgery. Hopefully 90 days recovery like the vet stated aND can keep trucking from there.

Hey everybody! Sorry I haven't updated, I was in New York all weekend at a wedding when this happened. I had dropped her off on Thursday for the removal and she was to be picked up on Friday by my mother. Needless to say I was an absolute wreck worrying about her and felt helpless being so far away.

Thank you to run n rate for updating for me! I really appreciate it!! <3

Yes, there was a mishap. She was given an epidural for the procedure and I think she was walked off too soon to be taken back to her stall and she fell. He said her left leg was underneath her when she fell and she tore her hamstring muscle. I was able to haul her home today. I went to the stalls and took photos of the injury as well as pics of all the cuts and scrapes she has from falling. The leg is very very swollen. Mainly on the inside of the left rear leg but there is residual swelling that goes down her leg to her fetlock. She is able to walk on it although her gait is irregular. He is optimistic that she will be sound again but only time will tell. She lost some weight while there. He said that she was not eating well which is very unlike her. I believe he knows that this was a big accident/mistake on their part because he didn't charge me for any of the pain meds or diuretics she was given while there or for the 4 days of "board". He also said he will be calling in a couple weeks to check on her progress.

I posted in another thread looking for therapy options for a torn hamstring and I posted a couple pics of the injury there.

Thank you again to everyone who asked about her and how she was doing. I really appreciate it!!

Praying for you TACKy. I will stay in touch with you and hope to hear good progress reports on your mare. I would continue any diet/supplement changes you have made to try to help keep he from forming another one.
CC and I will be headed to UCD in NOvemeber or December for another 6 month scope of her bladder and then if everything is still clear and the kidney's are still functioning/passing urine then Dr. Katzman feels we can push the next scope out to a year check up date.

Also, glad you didnt' feel like I stepped on toes when I updated, I just knew there were several people asking and wanted to let them know without hurting feelings that your mare made it thru the surgery fine but did have a set back....

Oh no! I really appreciated you updating everyone. I just had so much on my plate at the moment that it completely slipped my mind. lol

I will be praying for you and CC, that everything will still look good and is functioning well!! <3

Yep, we are going to be making some diet changes as a precaution. He actually caslicked her after they were done flushing her bladder. He actually thinks what may have happened, is due to her swayback, she has "shelf" back there. He thinks she may have gotten fecal matter or some sort of debris into her urethra and it made it's way into the bladder and allowed the calcium something to form a stone on. He said of course that's not 100% but we went ahead and did the caslick as a precaution anyway due to that "shelf" that she has.

Thank you so much! I sure hope I have good progress reports to give! I will breath a sigh of relief when I see the inflammation start coming down. Right now it's pretty shocking to see that leg so big every time I go out to the barn. So there will be LOTS of cold hosing in my future. lol

Oh, forgot to mention too, when CC fractured her Patella I used a lot of Sore NO More poultice on her from the stifle down and the gel linament too, anything with Arnica. Really helps pull soreness out.

Oh good to know! I was going to look for some poultice tonight. And I know at Big D's they sell Arnica gel, maybe I'll buy some of that to try too! Here's a pic I took of the stone pieces. He saved these to show me and that's not even all of it. People saw it sitting and couldn't believe that had been in her bladder :(.

You'll see it here first. I read over this whole post about once a month just to remind myself of how lucky CC and I are how the stars aligned and all the prayers that kept us going. I got what I felt was a very meaningful compliment from her vet that did the surgery the other day. He had called, the university is doing reviews and asked for clients names to send review questions out to. Dr. Katzman called to ask if it was okay if he gave them my email address. I said "of course, after all you are the reason she was given this opportunity to survive ", Dr. Katzman said "well thank you, but no, you did that. I was just one of the therapies you used to make it happen for her". What a cool thing to say.

Made me appreciate him even more. When we got the diagnosis originally of CC's kidney stones and really no hope from western medicine to help her, the only thing I had was a little mare that didnt' look ready to quit and my momma's refusal to give up on things we care about. Went home and started researching and as most of you know with 'alternative" medicine there is no cut and dry answers. There are " you can try this or this or this..." and you just have to decide on a course of action and put your eggs into basket that haven't been made so to speak and adjust from there if need be. All I knew going in was CC had a better chance if I tried something and failed than if I sat home and cried and waited for the day we never want to come. She is not "healed" of her kidney stones though last time we had them checked she had 3 fewer than the original diagnosis showed, the kidneys are still at least functioning which the vets were amazed at. I do not have a lot of money to throw at problems I'm a paycheck to 4 days before paycheck kind of girl (girl, LOL. I'm freakin' 50!) so I had to rely on that gene my mom passed on that refuses to quit or say when and than the God Lord CC has that same gene apparently. I'm also blessed to have found a vet that was ready to kind of listen to my "witch craft" therapy and support us in our journey.
