Location: 31 lengths farms | Gotcha :-) Thanks for the heads up!
So the bad news is we still aren't sure what is going on with her, waiting on a urinalysis, that result should be in tomorrow. Also that there is some blood in the urine.
The good news is her bladder ultrasound and palpated clean, and her blood work all came back within the norms. I dont'have her paper work in front of me but her Creatine (sp) and BUNN or whatever the exact letters for that one are were well with in the norms, every single thing except what is the one that measure pancreas, that came back low. I needed to get her home and get back to work, I will grab her paperwork tonight and have those numbers tomorrow so give factual numbers and not "with in norm" as an answer. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Urinalysis showed no crystals but there was bacteria, they are spinning it down to find "gram negative", basically what antibiotic we should use, in the meantime they are having me give her SMZ/TMP's twice a day. Got home yesterday and somehow had not gotten the gate between her and the big mare's pastures chained correctly. Those two were running back and forth between both pastures with their tails in the air, bucking, rearing and being general turds. Ran down and got them caught and seperated into their respective pastures, CC was having a great time. Tried to catch sight of if she had to pee, which she has been doing a lot since she passed the goo last week...nothing, didn't posture to urinate once which she had kind of been doing since then too. Looks great this AM too. Not taking a deep breath yet, but at least I feel like I can pant ;-)

Location: 31 lengths farms | So got the results on her urinalysis...they want us use Excede. There is one other antibiotic that could be used but the vet said it is very expensive and the Excede works for this just as well. |

| Excede should work well, it doesn't work well on diarrhea or leg infections.
One thing to make note of it is one that organisms become resistant to faster, so make sure you don't skip a dose |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Thank you for that information! The urinalysis tested positive for E. coli which is why they have her on it, it was that or Baytril 100 orally which they said could and does burn the gums...wasn't a fan of that idea so went with the Excede. |

We used Excede for 7 weeks at the end of 2015 on a gelding that was displaying some odd symptoms. We had tried some less broad antibiotics with no success so we decided to put him on Excede. We have no idea what was causing his symptoms but he had a lot of localized swelling on his underline and was acting very depressed. Bloodwork showed infection was present. Β Anyway, we decided after 7 weeks that it wasn't helping so we stopped. It was too expensive to keep injecting without seeing results. Still have no idea what caused it. It eventually just went away. Prayers for your mare. I hope it works!Β Β

Location: 31 lengths farms | Thank you...I was out watering last night and CC went over to her normal potty area and urinated a nice big stream, first one I've seen in a week!!! No goop, tiny amount of blood at the end but she is in heat too. The only reason I caught that there was blood in it was that this spring we had put a bale of rice straw in her pasture where she hangs out because it was so wet and so that area is a big straw bed now. When I walked over you could just barely see the small amount of blood on the straw. Now before the Excede there was a large amount of blood and very little urine. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | She is Chandler's Mom!!! I thank God I was there that day she passed the nasty stuff or I dont' think we'd even know anything was going on yet, she never came off her feed, she continued to behave like her usual half psycho self in the pasture. Heck she didn't even have an elevated heart rate, pulse or temperature when we took her in. Doc seriously thought I was being overly cautious . And then she peed!!!
She got her second dose of the Excede today...will go home at noon to check on her again. Her vet that did the bladder stone removal called to check on her the other day too, was very happy to hear her bloodwork came back looking so good and felt we are on the right track with our choice of antibiotics. |
