Location: Buffalo, Wyoming | They filmed a lot in Cody, WY this year. My SO and some of our friends were up there while they were there and said what a joke it was. They were going around the rodeo grounds paying guys money to go to the bar with them, they of course didn't want any girl to go.
They also put on a barrel race up there and I heard an unbroke 2 year old could have ran better than most of the girls horses on the show. |

I personally prefer TUBE TOPS!! Nothing screams "class" more to me than when your boobs fall out while your headin to the third barrel.
Whats crazy there is some barrel races that I have been to that put on a bikini barrel race for the fun of it, seems like it would be a 2 day show and they would throw a bikini race in just to have something different, but of course it was not the main race. Just a fun race for the younger girls. |

Ps, this show sounds awful. "Reality tv" is a bit of an oxymoron, no?
Oh, yes he did! |

Then, if you enjoy our site and want full access, we'll ask you to purchase an affordable subscription. The stars of the prospective new reality series “Rodeo Girls” lost to a local pre-teen barrel racer last week at the Cody Nite Rodeo. Cody native Anna Allshouse, 11, won the event June 13 in 16.90 seconds. “Winning felt great,” Allshouse said. “My horses have grown so much and they’re working harder this year.” Also entered in the event were pro-circuit barrel racers Marvel Murphy, Barbra West and Darcy LaPier, all adults, from A&E’s new reality show “Rodeo Girls.” A crew was filming in Cody last week. Murphy placed 8th with a time of 19.30, West was 14th in 22.13 and LaPier finished last, 24.62 seconds. Not only were the rodeo stars beaten by Allshouse, they also were outrun by other local barrel racers, including Pam Vanek and Michelle Sauerwein, both adults. Vanek placed 6th, beating all three of the “Rodeo Girls” stars. Sauerwein was 12th and beat West and LaPier. Many local barrel racers and rodeo fans were skeptical about the reality of this reality show. “I heard them out here (at the rodeo grounds) paying guys $100 on Thursday night to flirt with them and buy them drinks,” Sauerwein said of the camera action. Vanek said she knows a guy who was “bribed” to take the ladies out. “He said they (film crew) told him to go up to the girls and ask them to dance in a cowboy way like, ‘I wanna take you for a swing,’” Vanek added. Along with how they were enticing the cowboys, some onlookers also did not appreciate the way the “rodeo girls” acted in public. “Marvel was sitting near the stands, cussing like a sailor with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth,” Sauerwein said. People also were concerned about how the show might portray the sport. “This is a joke,” barrel racer Vanek quoted a friend’s post on Facebook. “They are making it into something it’s not ... this saddens me to see our sport portrayed in this manner.” In the current ProRodeo Qualification 2013 standings, West is ranked 226 and Murphy is 267 of 382 racers. LaPier does not appear in the rankings. “The girls who are at the top aren’t out partying in the bars every night,” Cody barrel racer Teresa Bullock said. “There’s no time – they are professional athletes.” During the Jackpot Race at the Stage Stop Horse Hotel on Sunday, people who volunteered as extras and barrel racers were not happy about the results. “They rigged the clock so they (‘Rodeo Girls’) would win,” Anna’s father David Allshouse said. Jen Lewis was in first throughout the Jackpot Race but Barb West, who was last to run, won. “We were all kind of predicting that whoever they had run last was going to win,” Bullock said. “We watched (West) come off the last barrel and she was at a high-14, low-15. The clock stopped at 16.31 and she wasn’t even across the line.” Some extras who volunteered for the show left the arena questioning reality TV. “This is not reality at all,” Vanek said. (EDITOR’S NOTE: Concerning skepticism expressed about the timing at this jackpot race, owner Paul Vail of the Stage Stop Horse Hotel “swears no one rigged the clock.” The event east of Cody was filmed June 16 for the projected A&E reality show, “Rodeo Girls.” Vail and his wife Elizabeth expressed “disappointment” about negative comments they’ve heard about the event. “There are always people who want to ruin good things that happen (in Cody),” Vail added. “This (film crew) brought many people to Cody and all that (some) people want to do is put it down. “I worked hard putting this race together.” Vail says A&E’s visit to Cody and the race were meant to have a positive, not negative, impact on the community. Terry Dolan, who also helped host A&E’s visit, said it was positive for Cody.) |

| That's not much of a rodeo if 8 seconds off still keeps you in the top 15

| Read this statement about the series and thought it was pretty accurate to real life.
The series, which has the working title Rodeo Girls, was described last year at MIPCOM as βIce Road Truckers meets Housewives.β |

Location: Kentucky | I like how this show portrays the rodeo life as the lifestyles of the rich and famous. I'm assuming they aren't going to show girls digging hay out of their bras, or picking beans out of sheaths?? |

| Just like the movie 8 Seconds never portrayed Lane Frost the way he really was. I am sure they will twist this around too. |

Location: TX | You know what never ceases to amaze me about some of the people "on here" is the "better than tho" attitude that is portrayed. As in just because YOU haven't heard of someone that makes them seem less. I know Marvel Murphy are we friends NO, I knew her family growing up and just to set you all straight she is a HAND on a horse and do not dismiss her. We have all got out run at jackpots and rodeos so the BS about how bad that particular rodeo was and is ridiculous! Some of you should not be at all posting the negative comments because more than likely she'd whip the pants off you somewhere else. GEESH!!! And yes that is Marvel in the picture.

I don't think anyone is pointing fingers at any particular person. It's how A&E is portraying the rodeo world as "glamorous". Really? What is so "glamorous" about mucking stalls at 4am, clipping, washing, debeaning sheaths, dirt, blood, sweat, tears, the list can go on.
AND FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, WHY PUT A CHICK IN A BIKINI ON THE COVER? Real Cowgirls, and I shall say RODEO COWGIRLS don't show up to a rodeo in a bikini.
It's truly a disgrace

| Some inconvenient facts:
1) There are bikini races. 2) Plenty of people work their horses in shorts. 3) Many "pro's" party hard. 4) "Tweens" beat "pro's" all the time. |

| I'm probably gonna watch, if I can remember. I'm thinking this might be a Real Housewives meets rodeo type of deal. You know going in that it's staged, you know most rodeo folk don't live like that (and the reality is the coffee downing, all night driving with the chihuahua as a co-pilot), but I'm going with that mindset.

Location: Oregon | I’m excited to watch this as I think it will be a hoot! Yes, there will definitely be some ‘roll your eyes’ moments I’m sure, but it’s not being portrayed as a ‘serious’ piece of television. One of the producers is one of the barrel racers and I know she worked very hard to get this up and running. Heck - just getting a peek into her life would make a show! Nice ladies, having fun, living life, riding horses – just happen to have the means to put a show together and be filmed. Poster with a bikini wearing barrel racer? I’m sure it’s all about ratings and I guess ‘bad’ publicity is better than no publicity. |

Hungarian Midget Woman
Location: Midwest | I'm not gonna lie....I think reality shows in general are pretty silly. I do think it was funny that they were paying people to go hang out at the bars for the show! That was the source of most of my laughter. That and the pick-up line they suggested for random dude/dance partner.
I'm sure these girls can ride....but I'm not really about to watch them go and party, get manicures, and start drama (regardless of what they are like in real life, it seems this is the focus of the show). It really just doesn't interest me. lol
And the fact that an 11-year old beat them really didn't bother me....some kids are super hands. Although don't you have to be 18 for WPRA? Is that the only "pro" organization for women barrel racing in rodeos, or are their others? Those last two are serious questions....I've never rodeoed |
