My mom, age 5, and her brother on their mustang Smokey.  Pic was taken circa 1938 on the Shoshone Indian Reservation near Riverton, WY





My daughter, Angela, in 2009 fell asleep on her horse at our County Fair between classes.





 
That pic of your mom and uncle would put them on the same reservation in the same time frame as my dad when he was 16... Small world.

 Is your uncle still living?  My mom is, she is 80.  Her maiden name was Sanders.
