I agree with most of it with the exception of "Let him talk first - remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours." Oh, and I don't think I could deal with him staying out all night without warning...business trip: okay. Not coming home unitl 6 AM without telling me: big NO-NO.

I wouldn't mind doing most of those things as long as I get to have my dog, my horse, my car, my truck, my trailer, and my own way. LOL. Think there might be a reason I'm still single?

However, in all honesty, if I found the right guy, I would be more than happy to do that for him. But I feel like it is a two way street, a lot of give and take on both sides. I once had a boyfriend that had a theory about relationships. He thought that wouldn't it be nice if the best part of the day was when you came home to each other? No, I don't still have that boyfriend, but I couldn't agree with him more on that point.

you know what? I am with you...and I JUST found that guy and married him in September. He also: opens the door of the truck for me to get in (but learned that if he doesn't open it for me to get OUT, it does not mean I will stay there, Nor will I go if told to "get in the truck" if there's gonna be a ruckus.) He buys my dinner and sends flowers and things to the office, hooks up HIS truck to the trailer and drives my horses around, gives me his jacket if I am cold, INSISTS on stacking the hay or changing tires even though he knows I can do it myself, is never disrespectful towards me, holds the door open for ANY woman in a building, and offers his seat in a public place to an elder.

So, it doesn't bother me any to cook for him, do his laundry, or not ***** and moan first thing when he gets home. Our house is a mess because we are in the middle of moving, but the article is right, a less cluttered house makes you feel less crazy. I only wear make-up every now and then, but he does love how I clean up, and it's very cute to see him smile. It's worth it, ladies.

But if he stays out all night...he is WELL AWARE that I'm pretty handy with both the 12 gauge and the sheep castrator. LOL

And whoever has the milk cows...I'm JEALOUS!!!! Store milk is HORRIBLE. YUCK!!

Three 4 Luck - 2014-01-14 9:20 PM  I can be happy to see him, and I can be verrrrrry interesting.  Sometimes I even have food cooked when he gets home.  Doesn't mean it's still hot, tho.  The rest? :-pppppppp I must have been in the barn when the "good wife" genes were being passed out.
You are still young and there's always counseling and rehabilitation.

Every woman has the potential to be a good wife.  Don't give up.  Post this on your fridge every morning so you can read it while preparing his favorite breakfast....while wearing his favorite lengerie', of course.

It's not there's poor ladies fault, Doc.  A real man insists on these traditions and provides the rewards that makes it mutually beneficial.  Where have all the real men gone?

I have a real man... He helps clean, cook, works, does homework with our daughter and will give us anything that he can. He never can tell the women of the house no. Now that's a real man! I take care of the bills and work and help with cleaning and cooking but he is never far way when I need him. He would rather I be able to stay at home and not have to work but were just not able to do that. I think he possess some of the older generation qualities a lot of men these day's should have. That even incudes when he's saying a woman' s place is in the Kitchen fix me something to eat woman. lol

equussynergy - 2014-01-14 8:33 PM I pretty much do all that for my hubby. He works hard so I don't have to. I make sure his laundry is done, the house is clean and he is very well fed. I look after the livestock and make everything from scratch. Hence why I have my farm complete with milk cow. I handle all the money and bills. So his only worries are man jobs and his job.  In return he allows me to have my horses and anything else my little heart desires.

Oh but the names I've been called..... lazy and a mooch by women who I considered friends. They look down on me beacuse I have choosen to be a housewife.

^^^^^^^^^I hope Carol King reads this. You are an excellent role model.

I was actually agreeing with most of it until I read the stay out all night part.  That could get you killed.  Just so you know.

Seriously, I think the radical women's movement killed them.  They were told that women wanted to do everything for themselves and the traditional roles were old fashioned.  The bible says that women are suppose to submit themselves to their husbands.  It also says that husbands are suppose to love their wives as Christ loved the Church.  Christ laid down his life and died for the Church.  I don't know a woman alive that would not be willing to do most anything for her husband if a man loved her that much.

Well put.  The second half of that quote is often left out.  It's a pretty darn high standard to uphold.  God expects a lot from husbands and fathers.

This is my husband as well.

5 years ago, I was 8 months along with Amber. My husband asked me to quit working. Haven't gone back since. And I have had people ask "well what do you do all day?". Enter FACE PALM here. When hubby comes home, there is nothing for him to do but shower and relax. He works 6 days a week, and long hours. I love that when he comes home, his work is over. The laundry is clean, folded and put away. Everything dusted (and left with a pleasant lemon scent even!). The floors are vacuumed and/or mopped. Firewood's stacked. Animals are all taken care of. Ambers clean. Beds are made, bathrooms cleaned. Walkways are shoveled when it snows and I start his work truck every morning.

I enjoy making his life less stressful. In return, he goes to work. He provides Amber and I with the best life I can imagine. We have what we need and more. I get to have my horses and dogs. A nice trailer and truck. A house on a couple acres. I am blessed.

But if he brings his muddy boots in on my clean floors, you'll bet I have something pretty d*** important to say.

so much of the things in the beginning are something I would expect from a stay at home spouse of either gender...if one has the luxury of staying home, they should take care of the house and cook. both my husband and I have filled that role due to job loss (for short periods, once each).

but then it gets pretty subservient in the last few ideas and loses me. Like really? stay out all night? I laughed... some of the others were just silly also

I LOL'd at taking off his shoes... gtfo... I literally gag when my husband takes his work boots off across the room at our front door. at close range I would probably die.

Ditto to all of this.

I had a discussion with my mom not too long ago. My parents have been married for almost 25 years. My mom is a stay at home mom. She is glad that times are changing, and that both my sister and myself have more choices as to what to do with our lives. She waits on my dad hand and foot, runs his errands, and raised the two of us kids. My dad is a good man, no doubt, but I have decided that I do not want to live that kind of life. He doesn't pick up after himself, and when he does he blames us for his mess. He doesn't know how to turn most of the appliances in our house. LOL. Even though I believe that my parents have a pretty good marriage, and that my dad is a good man, I am not cut out for that life. I have helped my mom wait on my dad hand and foot and I don't like it at all. I hate the "He makes all the money, so we should treat him like royalty" mentality both my parents have and will not subject myself to that if I can help it. I will also never be made to feel like I have to "submit" and would never do that to someone else. Sorry, but NO.

In this day and age I also think that it is unfair to say that a "real" man has to be the sole provider in a relationship or marriage. A real man can be whatever he dam well pleases, just as a real woman can - just so long as he/she is a good person and productive member of society. Not sure why we have to resort to that kind of insult to prove any kind of point. I know several men who are stay at home dads. I have friends who had stay at home dads. Guess what? They turned out pretty well.

I don't care if you want to be a stay at home wife or mom. I think it is an honorable job if you want to do it and enjoy doing it. I will respect that choice, but I'd like to have the same courtesy.

I feel blessed to have the best of both worlds.  I work, but I'm self employed and most of it I either do at home, or I can take the kids with me.  They love to help scout a field or drive equipment.  I have lots of down time in the winter, but I hate house work, so I procrastinate and play on the internet instead.

Now to this one, I would agree.  I will walk behind 3 feet, just close enough that I can kick you in the ass, far enough that I can get a head start to run away, LOL
