| This Post is great. But I have a question to anybody else out there. I have diverticulitis so therefore cannot eat grains, seeds, nuts. Anyone else have this? If so, what do you eat? I am just getting over a "flare-up" as I indulged in some popcorn. Finding more and more stuff that I just cannot eat. |

Location: Canada | Thank you for this! I lost 30lbs last year by eating healthier and working out but have been slacking and gained 5lbs back over this winter which I feel pretty bad about. I find it very difficult to stay ambitious and motivated in the winter but spring is on the horizon and I am starting to get back on track. Hoping to lose the 5lbs I gained plus 10lbs more!
Good luck to everyone on getting healthier and achieving their goals! |

Β I'm really needing quick meal and snack ideas. That's where I have trouble. I come in from riding or whatever and have nothing prepared. My main go to snack is apples or grapes with peanut butter. I find it pretty filling but need more than that. I'm also trying to cut back on my wheat intake some. But food ideas is where I struggle. Especially the I'm starved and have nothing prepared. Help. :)
i will be riding 3 horses as often as I can and I bought Richard Simmons dancing to the oldies video to try as I hate walking in the wide open country in winter. Plus I do like to dance so thought I'd try it.Β
Anyway seriously need to drop 20lbs. Had a very stressful spring, summer and fall last year and that equalled a big weight gain. I refuse to buy new cloths. So loosing is only option. Any tips welcome.Β Thanks dream chaser for the post.Β
Oh my gosh! Me too!!
My SO and I make up snack baggies on Sunday afternoons ... we'll chop carrots, celery, and apples ... then throw in some grapes or whatever else we have. Then stick 'em in bags and stuff in the fridge so that when the cravings hit we grab a baggie to munch and go! We also always have peanut butter and granola bars on hand!
We also try to plan our main evening meals for the week on Sundays. We are on a tight food budget and this helps us when we hit the grocery store and later in the week when we're actually making the food!

Google paleo and you will find more recipees then you can imagine. Facebook also has a zillion great paleo pages full of info. We don't eat grains, but do eat nuts- everything else is meats, vegetables, fruits, and eggs. |

Location: Gainesville, TX | Good to see. My husband I are back on our low carb diet (after a break for Valentine's day weekend). Got to stay motivated. I'm under 200 again anyway in the last month. Goal is 135 so I can really enjoy my two year old without breaking her back. |

Location: Jersey Girl | OhMax - 2014-02-18 7:51 AM I just started week 6 of a 10 week jump start workout program. Kickboxing 3x's a week and resistance band training 3x's a week. I LOVE it. At first getting up at 4:30 sucked, but now I wake up then on the weekends when I don't have to. The program also includes healthy eating- not a diet, but changing the way you eat and looking at food as fuel. We are to eat 6 meals a day, meal-snack-meal-snack-meal-snack. We are to try to aim for protein the size of our palm and carbs the size of our fist at each meal, and make sure each snack also has a carb and a protein. I needed this post because I kind of fell off the food bandwagon last week with all you can eat wing night and Valentine's day dinner - but worth it! Back on the bandwagon now! A couple things to add: PEANUT BUTTER - SUPER easy to make. I have little Kitchenaid Food Chopper (not processor, this one is like $50 at Kohls ) and I throw my peanuts in there and run them until they are fine, then add a little peanut oil (we use roasted peanuts, so if you're using raw the natural oil content is higher and you may be able to skip this step ) and honey and continue pureeing until the consistency is where I want it. I make a batch and portion it out into small containers so I just grab a container and an apple in the morning and I have my snack for the day. I pre-chop all veggies like broccoli and cauliflower the day we go grocery shopping, otherwise it'll sit in the fridge and go bad because I'm "so busy". I also pre portion more expensive proteins and snacks like shrimp and almonds to make sure I'm not over eating. The price tag is a little shocking at first, but when you look at the correct portion size and work it out, they're pretty affordable. Overnight oats are my favorite breakfast. Oats, greek yogurt, almond milk, raisins, nuts, etc all mixed up overnight in the fridge. It's so delicious and creamy the next morning and it's ready to go. Grains like couscous, quinoa, and barley are great. Some blogs that I love for new ideas: http://www.chocolatecoveredkatie.com - she speaks to my sweet tooth. The black bean brownies and zucchini brownies are the real deal man, the real deal. http://www.trebleinthekitchen.com - she was a year behind me in school, super yummy clean recipes. The salmon stuffed peppers are awesome and I think I'm going to try the kale pesto this weekend with homemade whole wheat pasta (also very easy ). I love helping people find healthy food to eat that is GOOD. My boyfriend likes to eat well, but isn't on the super clean bandwagon by any means - and he eats everything I cook, so I must be doing something right.

Location: Blissfully happy Giants fan!!! | I think that it is awesome so many people are trying to get healthy!!
I lost about 40 pounds a year or so ago and I never want to see those pounds come back! I did a diet change myself. I committed to tracking everything I ate for 30 days and that was a big wake up call. I don't do that anymore but I have kept everything off.
About a month ago I started going to the gym. I did this because I found I had lost my lung capacity running a horse and I wanted it back. So I get up at 5am, feed all of the animals and then drive to the gym (less than 5 minutes away). This works for me because my one horse has to get fed by herself so the time at the gym and then coming home and getting ready for work gives her enough time to eat everything I put out for her. Hubby works a late night shift so even on the weekends I can do this and not miss anything. And I bring my workout gear when I am traveling for work. Nowadays all hotels have a gym. I try for 6 days a week but sometimes it is 4 or 5. Depends on my schedule.
I don't do a whole lot-mostly because I am really going for lung capacity. I run-not jog-for 15 minutes. 2.5 minutes to warm up on the front side, 2.5 minutes to cool off and catch my breath on the back side. Right at the end I amp up that treadmill and sprint-literally-for as long as I can. Usually a minute or so. I have the treadmill at an incline-not a big one but enough-and then I make sure I am at least fully stretching out my legs running. Usually I start at a slow run but still a run and then work my way to a sprint every few minutes.
After that I do about 5-7 minutes worth of ab work, 20 pushups, and I go home. I love when my abs hurt.
As for eating, I found that usually when I was getting hunger pains, I was mistaking it for being thirsty. My rule of thumb is if I feel like I am hungry, I drink water first. If it doesn't go away then I know it is true hunger.
I can't eat multiple small meals a day. My intestines can't digest it. I can't digest nuts well either and dairy works a number on me. I will eat something small in the morning on my way to work (one rice cake with natural peanut butter, which I think is all out nasty so I put honey on it), and I have a thing of coffee first thing. That usually lasts me till lunch. If it doesn't I have pickles. Pickles are my friend!!!! No nutritional value-it is a 0 calorie/fat/sugar/etc food so you can have as many as you want. Most of the time 3 snack kosher dills will do it.
I fill up at lunch. Today I had brussell sprouts, mushrooms, small chicken feta cheese, and a green machine Naked drink. And chocolate. I am a chocolate a-holic and have never been able to tame it so I don't try anymore.
Rarely do I need anything more than this for the day. I am so busy when I leave work that I usually et everything done and then crash at about 9:30-10pm. So it isn't like I am missing out on eating and my intestines need all of the time it can to digest (this is because of an emergency surgery a long time ago).
I drink a lot of water and flavored water. Water is your very best friend.
As for cooking. I hate to cook!!! SO, I always keep a bag of frozen vegetables on hand. The mixed kind. And canned tuna. I can heat the veggies in the microwave, drain the tuna, and whalla-a meal. I do that a lot. I also like the canned salmon-much better than I thought it would be.
Shrimp is also a fave of mine-low calorie. My acupuncturist told me I need more fish and while shrimp isn't a fish it still does the trick.
I have bought the sweet potatoes that are individually wrapped and heated those for an easy snack.
If I am going to be home all week (which lately hasn't been the case), I TRY to cook some stuff on sundays. I can get 4 boneless skinless chicken creasts baked in 20 minutes with less than a minute prep and they are yummy. 20 minutes and I have onions, brussel sprouts, mushrooms cooked up. I LOVE pecan oil. It is the healthiest oil out there-that is a true fact. I use it all of the time.
Notice I don't eat a whole lot of fruits. Too sugary for me and they throw me off. I will eat bananas every once in a while but what I need from a banana I can usually get in an avocado. And I love cherry tomatoes. Oh and I get the individual rice cups too (side note, brown rice is basically the same as white rice. Wanna know the difference? When the rice gets to the processor, they have machines that shave off the outside brown part. Seriously.)
I still have binge days. If my husband gets up early enough on the weekends sometimes we will go out to eat or will when he has his days off. I don't go all salad-no-dressing-only. I live it up!!! Steak. Potatoes. Nasty fattening appetizer. Cheesecake (I did that on sunday). But I know I don't do it a lot so it is ok. My theory is if I am doing things irght 80% of the week, I am doing good.

Location: On a paint horse... | LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this post!! Eating good, exercising, we are all works in progress!! It is a lifelong 'battle' for lack of a better word. My hubby and I lost 80 pounds 3-1/2 years ago and have kept it off. I became a FREE Health Coach to help others be successful. (pm me for details).
Even though I lost the weight, and I ride 6 days a week, Im really not in great shape so I recently joined the gym, signed up for the Biggest Thriver contest...and it is kicking my a$$. But what a wonderful accomplished feeling I have when I get home each day (when I can move LOL!). You have to find YOUR personal motivation, no one can do it for you and if you arent ready, i can tell you you wont stick to it and be succesful :( Kudos to each and every one of you that are making the right choices in your lives. |

Location: North of the 49th Parallel | My legs are sore. Very sore. I hate the gym (I really do) but I got my ass in it when my surgeon told me I needed knee surgery number 3. I came out of my past two surgeries NOT good so I didn't want that to happen again. Last night I did 6 miles on the bike, 25 crunches, 50 squats and a minute plank. And then I decided to ride for the third time in six months. OMG. I had no idea how hard it was to lope after that much time off. Good thing my pony and I are in this together. |
