Animal Element Product X is a great supplement that gives them energy and helps them recover faster. It's all natural and no fillers. I take it myselfand have energy all day long but no jitters like I would from an energy drink.

On my mare I get my energy level up, and I smooch just about the whole run. She runs great every time. My gelding as long as I'm leaning forward and "asking" him to run he'll run. On his lazier days, I'll smooch to him..but that came with alot of the other suggestions on here. Breezing did wonders. Not all the time of course, but I'd make sure I'd be asking the same way I would in a barrel race. And as I'm entering the gate I always ask my horses if they're ready to run and get "them excited" and they seem to pick up on that!

brlbarrels - 2014-03-16 8:07 PM i had a horse that would run harder THROUGH the poles than he would running HOME. every time i would take him through the poles i would go faster on the way home. say i walked through, i would trot home, i would trot through, then loap home. it worked wonders for him.
This made me think: My good horse ran harder if I let him run a set of poles a day or two before the race. He loved poles. I also would whistle before I would breeze him. That helped too.
