o2babarrelracer - 2014-03-25 11:02 AM I've experienced several loses and have known others who have as well. Sending a memorial donation to a designated charity when someone passes is totally different than opening the check book to pay for things that should be repaid by insurance. I never said anyone should not donate. I just think that people need to know what the money will be used for. They still have other horses and their home.....
I must be weird because I'm actually okay with not having to know something like this when I help somebody out.  If it's really a gift, it's given without strings attached and in good faith that it will be handled with care.  I'm good with letting that person be accountable to God for their actions and how they treated the gift.  After all, isn't that the same for the gifts He gives us?

Very well put Red Raider..... It's a GIFT!

o2babarrelracer - Couldn't agree less with you.  When you give someone a gift, it becomes none of your **** business how they use it.  I can't believe how callous and inappropriate you've been on this thread.  Good Grief!

O2 apparently doesn't know how much it costs to insure horses. I own quite a few horses and I don't insure them because, for what it would cost me to insure them, I can afford to lose one every few years....yes I can afford it. The odds of losing multiple horses are staggering and the odds of losing multiple horses in one incident are even more staggering. How do you think the insurance companies make so much money????
Since you brought it up, depending on if they have a farm policy, the barn MIGHT be covered as an "other structure". I hope they realize that. And if they contracted out the barn construction and a fire marshal can determine the fire was caused by defective workmanship, they may have grounds for a lawsuit. But in the meantime, they need help getting back into business and I for one will be more than happy to help raise funds for them and just thank my lucky stars it is not me going through that.

Meant to add..I've known Grits for a long time and trust her 100% and will not think twice about donating to this cause as I know the money will go where it's suppose to. I'm posting this because I don't trust everyone and a few of us have been scammed in the past so I do understand someone that doesn't know Grits would have questions.

Let's keep this thread on topic & look over the negative comments.

Let's keep it about helping someone out & keeping it positive instead of paying attention to the negatives

This^. Same reason we don't carry insurance. I hope the show of support from the horse community, most who are strangers to them, brings them a small piece of comfort. I can't imagine the grief and despair they are going through.

I admit there have been times in the past I've felt a little like someone shouldn't be asking for help. I'd be thinking heck they have more than I do.
However, this is not one of those times. I believe these men need our help and even though they didn't ask I know horse people have come together.

I am such a long time member of BHW and have met so many people in person on here, that I totally forgot that there are people here who don't know me.  My barrel horse died 3 yrs. ago, and I have not really run barrels since.  I tried, but couldn't find a horse that I clicked with.  It's hard at my age....  Then a year ago, I hurt my back, and the Dr. said I shouldn't run barrels ever again.  So I just really haven't had the heart to post here about barrel racing for quite a while.  However, I am back in it now, with my grandbabies.  My oldest, who is just 21 months old, has just started leadline in the local playdays.  She loves it, and I can see what my future holds now.  I will make a new post with her pic in a few minutes.  But I just wanted to say that I can understand people not wanting to trust me with donations, if they don't "know" me.  (And I appreciate Nevertooold's support on that!)  I just didn't think about my absence from this board, because it always feels like "home" here to me.  I hope to get some more donations to help Micah & Wade, but if you don't "know" me, I can understand your reservations about it.  Maybe you can donate to the other fund raiser or go to the benefit run or buy something from the silent auction or a breeding to one of several NICE stallions that have been donated.  As long as they get the money to help rebuild, it doesn't matter where you donate.  A big thank you to everyone who has donated.  Micah & Wade appreciate it more than you will ever know.

jan your a wonderful person with a huge caring heart.. You are talking about a evil person that has so much anger in her heart that she went and made the exact same post on another thread.. There is real horse people that have a huge heart that when times like this stick together and pull through for a fellow horse person.. I understand you felt the need to explain yourself and why you haven't been here in awhile.. Those that don't know you and are concern about making a donation to a complete stranger, God will lay a hand on those that feel the need to make or maybe not make a donation.. We will put this in god's hand and this barn will be built.. As sad as this is.. I do feel something great will come out of this, even if its nothing but drawing all horsemen together to show the world what kind and caring people we are.. God bless you as well as others that are doing what should be done..
