Cindy Hamilton - 2014-04-28 12:39 PM I just talked to the guys at Calico in Quitman, AR......we get trailers from them, and a friend of theirs in Vilonia who lost her home in the 2011 tornado had a safe room built in her new home and this tornado hit her house again yesterday and ripped the door off the safe room and killed her......they said the safe room was built to standards that should withstand an F5.....that is very scary for tose who have safe rooms and depend on them...

I heard about that and was shocked.  I guess when it's your time, there's not anything you can do about it.

It's suppose to make it here between 12 and 2am. I have asked for a storm shelter ever since the Tuscaloosa tornados but no one sees why we need one other than me.

Small Norma update.  Friend said that her hubby had somewhere to be today, so that could be why she's MIA.  She was going to try to call (planned on it anyways) but was going to try to call earlier and let us know. :)

Maybe she'll check in sooner than I get notified though.

Also, we were just put under a Tornado WATCH until 7pm. (SE Iowa)  Ugh.

Nateracer - 2014-04-28 11:56 AM I sent a message to one of my friends who are best friends with Norma to see if they had heard from her.  They would have her phone number to check and see if they are OK.

Thanks Rae.  I'm glad you weren't stuck in the barn for long either!!!  Nate and Whisper were probably wondering how long mom was going to hang out on their turf!

I think they liked that I was there.  I'm their big protector...LOL!  I on the other hand wasn't real cracked up about the idea and waited for the hail to stop and beat it to the house!

This website has had me mesmerized for an hour.  Its a searchable database of all tornadoes since about 1950.  Looking at Arkansas it's facinating to me.  the details of each one.  I was looking for the track of the one that happened about this time in 2011 over the same area.  That was just an F2  ("Just").

Oh my goodness....prayers for everyone impacted. Some of ya'll may know this but the weather channel will post up to the second updates on their twitter feed when tornadoes are on the ground. They post much quicker on twitter than they do on TV. And they give specific locations ,etc way before it makes it to the news.

Our local channels all did an excellent job last night of keeping everyone updated with specific locations. They stayed on air continuously from just after 7 pm until sometime after 11:30 pm (I finally fell asleep

Quarter sized hail is what I've heard so far a few miles west of here.  It's coming.

Thanks, Roxie and Rae for updating.......I have been returning messages and calls.....Sorry.......We didn’t blow away and we didn’t wash away. We did get over 6+” of rain and LOTS of lightning. That is the reason that I did not get on FB or BHW this morning. I had unplugged everything early last night and we had to leave early this morning because John had an appt. at the VA medical center in Poplar Bluff, MO. We had to take a circuitous route due to many roads being flooded. The tornadoes were just to the south and west  of us and took out the towns of Mayflower and Vilonia. Thanks to everyone for the calls and concerns but we are safe and sound for now…..may have more severe storms tonight.

Holy Cow that's a lot of rain!  We needed rain in the worst way too and as of half hour ago we've had 2 inches and its still coming down.  Such a blessing.  I'm so glad you and your hubby are safe.  Where abouts are you located?

CurlyQ - 2014-04-28 8:49 AM I read that there were no warnings or sirens. Horrific devastation

Β The ones in AR should have had warnings. Β I was watching continuous coverage on the local news (also broadcasted to fm radio) and they and the NWS were on top of things. Β  While watching a storm chaser dash cam tho, the chaser stopped before the spot where the tornado crossed I40, and people were steadily driving by him right towards it, completely oblivious.

Β  I don't even remember where I read it. Glad you're ok. Looks like another is brewing in Alabama right now. Not sure, I've been at work all day. Farrierlady is over there somewhere :)

Β From the weather channel and CNN looks like parts of MS has declared a tornado emergency. All of east TN is under a tornado watch until 8pm or so.
