Southtxponygirl - 2014-08-08 4:12 PM I knew the day was coming to have to put her down, she was getting a bit run down and I knew it would be this winter cause last year the winter was hard on her, she didnt handle it very well lost weight, but when spring gets here she always gets back to normal weight, but not this year. She was really sweet, bought her so she could live her days out just being a horse and no more work for her. She was 25 when I got her and had her for the last 18 years of her life. ")

You gave her a great home and a great 2nd life.  Thank you for giving her that opportunity. Again. i am so sorry. neither of you deserved this

sorrel horse ranch - 2014-08-08 6:55 PM Oh Roxie I had no idea this had happened to you today.  What a tragedy.  Poor thing to have had to go this way.  If there is anything I can do please let me know.
I am so sorry this has happened to you.  You are such a wonderful person.
This didn't happen to Roxie.. It happened to Pattie... I'm sorry but I'm the kind of person that would follow the blood trail back to where it started.... I promise you the bullet didn't go very far after it exited... I'd darn well find it and have the police enter the ballistics results into the nation-wide system.... It's a darn shame this horse lived 43 years only to be killed this way.. Kudos to Roxie for helping her to live this long. I know of at least one animal that will be waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge...
After the day started to go by my heart got really heavey thinking about all this, after my son picked up Sterling I went looking for the places that this could have happen, I got on my Gator and rode the fence lines thinking she and the other horses have to been close to the fence lines when this happen, but we did get a shower this afternoon and that didnt help, but I was finding all the deer and hog trails hoping I could at least find the spot, but with all the brush and tall weeds I had a hard time finding anything, I'm thinking it happen on the peice of land behind Andys shop amd I'm thinking someone was hog hunting and was shooting at hogs and the horses were in that area at the time, since she was shot so low, so to me someone was shooting low and hogs are low to the ground, and we really do have a hog problem out here. Komet I know that Patty suffered and I am so so sick over this, had two Deputys saying it would really be hard to pin point where and who could have done this, we have alot of land around our land that is full of deer and hogs, have a ranch behind us that backs up to our fence line. We are looking into this as much as we can, but near impossible to find the people out here. So please dont get upset with how some of us word things, its really hard to say how we really feel over a computer, but I know how we all feel and its really sad and we are all animals lovers and hate anything bad happening to any animal are person. I think we all have lost something that we love and try our darnest to take care of. Hugs to all my BB's for all the kind words.

It didnt rain real hard just a pop up shower that we didnt expect, if I knew it was going to shower I would have gone out earlier, but having a 5 year old grandbaby with me and the heat was horrible today and didnt want to get Sterling out in it and I worry about the rattlesnakes out here so it really slowed me down on doing what I was wanting to do all day long. After Sterling went with her daddy, we got the backhoe from our neighbor so we could bury Patty in the back. Didnt want to do this with Sterling so it was a long afternoon for me of waiting to get things done. And then got on the Gator and went looking.
Edit to add: thanks Komet I do love my critters, just wish I would have found her sooner.

You certainly should not "beat yourself up" over the acts of an stupid and irresponsible hunter. You loved that horse with all your heart and took care of her the BEST you ever could. I wish I was closer to wrap my arms around you for a big HUG and shed a few tears with you.......

Roxie, my heart hurts for you. I am so sorry for your loss. We have gun poppers out here all the time and I stay in a state of fear wondering when one of mine will be hurt from it.  It angers me because they (hunters) KNOW they are on someone else's property and they have no regard for that.
Lifting you up in prayer today.

My sympathy on your loss. We had a nice mare that had a baby on her side and due to be checked when my nephew found her. We were having poaching problems at the time. After that we stopped putting horses up in the hiway pastures. Poacher was later caught killing a buffalo. While serving a little time in Huntsville-he made a successful 3 day jail break was caught again and got an additional 50 tacked on. Idiot should be there for awhile.  I don't care if they were hog hunting...you should know what your target is!

Exactly.  I've never been hunting...so far the extent of my gun experience has been BB/pellet guns.  But my Dad drilled into me that you NEVER pull the trigger unless you are SURE of what you are aiming at.

Roxie - so many (((hugs))) for you...bless you for giving Patty such awesome golden years.

Thank you all for your kind words about Patty . And I agree a true hunter knows when to shot, but I am sure someone was poaching out here and they shot my mare, to me a poacher is not a hunter just a low down no good poacher, and we are getting the word out about this, so hopefully another poacher will do some sniching.

So glad to know he was here in Huntsville.  Ugh.  Irresponsible hunter/poachers need to be educated in in how far their bullets travel if target is missed.  To me that is as important as being careful about where you are aiming.  And also some guns are so powerful the bullet goes right through what they are shooting and hits something else.  I just hope someone has the good sense to squeal on the person that did this.

I agree a bullet coming from a high powered rifle will keep traveling even after it hits its target, I was so hurt and sad yesterday, but now I'm starting to get mad. Going to start calling neightbors around us and letting them know what happen.

Thank you,,, I'm better now, I was just so sick thinking about this all day yesterday, I had a headache from being so uptight and my teeth hurt. Still sick about this, but now I'm getting really mad, have called a few people that knows people out here and just getting the word out about this, hopping someone will do some sniching. I started to shred the back pasture hopping it will discourage the wild hogs from getting on my land, trying to get it more open feeling. Maybe it will help keep the poachers outa here for a while, oh well I can only hope right?
Thank you to all my BB's once again, you guys are great

I'm not trying to start a fight here.... But as a hunter and an avid gun user... The target is not the only thing you need to think about.... Unless you are using a very low caliber round, You need to expect the bullet will punch through your target and keep flying.. (which I believe happened here) You HAVE to be aware of what is on the other side of your target.
