I am so very sorry for your loss. I feel your pain all to well, had something very similiar happen to me about 2 months ago, and it is just devastating. No way to prepare mentally. Hugs.

RockinGR - 2014-10-26 4:10 PM I'm just needing a little outlet right now, and it is too hard to speak to anyone yet. I'm heavy hearted a teary eyed today as heaven gained one of my babies last night. I lost my great little mare very suddenly last night. I've lost good horses before, but never actually watched one die. We were at a barrel race yesterday, where she worked so good! She was 6th out of 72 and had worked fantastic. There was a team roping after that my husband entered, so it was after 9:30 before we were loading up. I loaded my mare first and she staggered a little. I noticed she was a little sweaty and shivering. Her heart was racing and she was breathing fast and shallow. I told my husband that something was wrong and got her back off the trailer. Loaded the other 3 and put her back on last, all the while trying to call vets that were on our route home. Got ahold of a friend who lived 10 miles from the arena and stopped to give her banamine. She was unable to back off the trailer and ended up collapsing and falling under my gelding in the stall In front of her. My husband and his friend had to use the friends pickup to drag her off the trailer. She was not breathing and they tried to hot shot her into trying, but she died about 10:10pm in the road. I sat with her until after 11:30 when my dad got there with a trailer to load her on. He took her to my parents house and we will bury her in the morning next to her daddy. photo CF9A1392-939B-4CA1-A56E-8615C64B5273-856-0000013B0D432C52_zpsf6aa684e.jpg She was a neat, very special little horse that my mom and I raised, and I trained from the start. She had appy papers and had earned 43 lifetime points and 5 world show qualifications. She beat EPM and made an unbelievable comeback. Last weekend she made 2 1D runs (20th and 15th overall) at our state NBHA finals. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RfPehF1Mcak&feature=youtu.be She was a slick pole horse too and I'd had hoped she'd be part of my son's future rodeo lineup. And I hoped to get a baby from her someday. Now...I'm just lost. She was my baby girl...the kind you had that special bond with. She was just 9 years old.

So very sorry

I had a black mare that everyone loved, my vet, my farrier. Everyones life she touched loved that mare. I dont know why, but anyone that was around her loved her, never had a horse that touched so many lives. One night i was tired and didnot ride her, jext mourning my good mare came up to eat and the other two didnot. So went into run in shed and my black mare was lying down in a puddle of sweat. Got some banimine and called vet. I put a halter on her and went to get banimine next thing i know my gelding born with in 2 weeks on the same farm fot her to,the barn turned fans on her vet called, back took her temp it was elavated, she told me to,throw he on trailer and go to vet 2.5 out i live in a rural area by the time i got to vet she was dead. I loved her so,much the vet told me he thought she had a rupture stomach, did not now why. I think now 2 years later she had a had some kind of gut problem. Not sure. But she died, but only thing i know she was not a goood hay eater. So it,had something to,do with that. Ulcers or calicum deposits not sure. Do care but could not cut my mare up.
She was a cute mare. You did the right thing you may never know but even if they cut her up ypu may never know. Rip.

I'm so sorry for your loss.   My grandpa, many years ago, had a pony do something like that, only his cousin was riding it. They guessed a heart attack or something similar.
