Location: Oklahoma | The bugs get really bad in the fall because they know winter is coming and they're going to die....I have one that has a fly allergy and he gets these all over....but I also had a friend whose horse had a bacterial infection and had bumps that looked the same, and she had to give him some kind of extra strength antibiotic to get rid of it. At his age, I'd be taking him to a vet and having some blood drawn to make sure if it was an infection or not. If it's just bug bites, they can tell you how to best address it since he's an old guy. You can't treat them like young healthy stock. |

Location: Oregon | So sorry I hadnt updated every one! I had the vet out and it was an allergic reaction to something but the cause was unknown as we didnt change anything. But what the vet thought was weird was just a couple days earlier he went to see a horse a couple miles from us with the exact same thing and they hadnt changed anything either. So he told us not to change anything we ate doing since the swelling was going down and oozing stopped. So we cleaned with iodine and put vetricyn on them he is almost all better now! Thank you every pne for the replys. |

Convert them from .png format to .jpg. That will make them small enough to upload. |

Chiggers are a very annoying tiny, biting bug found in the midwest. They burrow into the skin and we found they only seem to be able to do so when they have some type of clothing to push against, like elastic on socks or pants tight against the waist and legs. I don't know if they bother animals or not but they are a nuisance to humans. I dealt with them for years in Missouri and never actually saw one. |

you never heard of chiggers!!!....... Nasty little bugs. You're to far north to know what they are I guess. They are larvae of a mite and they live in grassy areas or near water. Once they bite you it inserts an enzyme in your skin that causes little red bumps that itch and sometimes resemble a blister. I spray our yard every year for them and fleas and ticks. |

they actually don't burrow in the skin and they are so tiny that you can't see them unless under a microscope. |

I stand corrected... I knew they were small. I always had good eyesight and still couldn't see them. |

The only time we had them was when our yard was covered in carpet grass, for some reason they loved the carpet grass. |
