Nevertooold - 2015-02-05 1:08 PM I quit diet cokes many years ago and drank ice tea instead and I've now been off the ice tea for over two years and drink water and put different Essential Oils in my water.
Dang I wish I could drink more water like you NTO.  I just can't bring myself to like water unless I'm out at the barn and sweating like a you know what and then I can down a couple bottles of it.
I miss Ice Tea real bad but I can't do any caffeine and any artificial sweetners so I'm stuck with water. Even the no caffeine tea I brewed aggravated my bladder.
Decaf Lipton tea brewed in my iced tea maker tastes just like the leaded stuff.  My boss tries to tell me she can taste the difference but I sneak it to her all the time and she cannot tell the difference between the leaded and unleaded.  I LOVE my iced tea maker - and I drink the decaf brewed stuff year round, even today, when it's 16 degrees out this morning.

I confess to being a former diet coke addict.  When I started Weight Watchers many moons ago, I switched to diet 7-up.  Pretty soon, diet coke tasted awful.  When I quit working, I also quit the 7-up and started drinking decaf tea but will still drink 7-up when we are out somewhere probably just because of the convenience or even decaf root beer.  Now I prefer the decaf tea to the regular tea and I don't think most people can tell the difference.  I do use sugar to sweeten my tea just because of the toxins in the artificial sweeteners.

I started drinking DC when they switched formulas to "New Coke", which tasted horrible. Took me awhile to get used to DC and back then it was sweetened with saccharine. When they switched over to Aspartame, I told myself that I would continue to drink it until they found issues with the Aspartame. I drank it because I LIKED it BETTER than Coke, not because it was diet. Even hubby, who started by taking an occasional swig agreed with me that pizza and/or tacos REQUIRED DC.

21 years ago I tried to introduce some friends and could not come up with anyone's name!! I apologized to one girl and she asked my if I drank a lot of diet pop. She worked for a lawyer dealing with a lot of medical lawsuits and she told me about the dangers of Aspartame way back then. I tried to cut back to one a day but when I took out the tailgate of my pickup hen dropping my tailgate ( I dropped it, dollied it down then slammed the tailgate shut, and drove off.....in front of witnesses!), I quit cold turkey. It was years before I could stand to drink a regular Coke again. Quit the regular Coke cold turkey for a Candida cleanse/diet and again, it took me years to ebjoy one again. I would pour one for hubby and it would SOUND SO GOOD, I mean the sound of the Coke was SO enticing. It made my mouth water but tasted terrible.

Pizza and tacos still demand a Coke, but I can get by moet of the time with iced tea (not sweet) or a Raspberry, blueberry, spice herbal iced tea combo that I came up with most of the time. There are times when I come in from chores on a hot day when I really still crave a Coke. Nothing else seems to do. I don't think it's the caffeine (which doesn't seem to have much affect on me , energy or alertness wise or headache wise from the lack of) but the taste and effervescence combined with the pick me up of sugar (I tend to be hypoglycemic) is the only things that picks me up and cuts through taste wise, the heat and dirt.

I agree with everything in moderation. A soda once in awhile is not going to harm 98% of the population, 6 a day, however, is going to cause problems.

edited to add: I do, however, avoid Aspartame like the plague. Give me real sugar and fat any day!!!

I don't drink soda very often. I buy one case of the mexican coke a year and only have one on the way home from a barrel race. sometimes I like to take a pelegrino and poor a little packet of the crystal light lemonade into the tall bottle it will be weak but I love it that way! don't do this that often either...

I replaced with 7 up, sprite, none of the dark colas. Have a half coke if you feel a headache coming on or replace with dark tea or iced coffee. Agave is a nice sweetener and only a small amount is even needed. I use 3 tsp of sugar in my coffee. with Agave I use 1 tsp and its plenty sweet. Sparkling water and gingerale is a good replacement for a little while if you can keep from getting headaches. " ICE" the bottled water has bubbles that could be a replacement.

I wish there was a different selection of diet noncaffiene drings at fast food places.  The caffiene is addicting!  If you change from diet Coke to Tea or coffee you are still getting your caffiene addiction satisfied.

I want to also get away from the diet Coke addiction at fast food.  When I buy at the grocery store I bute diet noncaffiene pepsi.  I just need to do something when I buy fast food.
