| I think of you will compare cost per serving you will be surprised. I feed one scoop of Platinum per horse per day as recommended by my vet. A 17.5 lb container feeding two horses lasts me more than two months.
I was going go switch my retired horse from Platinum CJ to MSM or something I thought was cheaper. When I figured it by cost per day the Platinum CJ was less expensive. Go by cost per day not by the cost of the container. |

Location: the high desert | I have a hard time viewing anything that way because you don't pay for it day by day you pay for the whole tub all at once. The FORCO and tight joints combined is $114 but the FORCO lasts me 2+months and the tight joints last 1 month. The platinum CJ costs $142 and that's only a 58 day supply. The platinum performance is more cost effective as it is $59 for a 69 day supply but if I also have to add the tight joints to it then it's more expensive again. I am strongly considering trying the performance though... |

| I absolutely love Platinum and am a big believer in it. I don't feed CJ. I also don't believe in feed thru joint supplements. It may help the over all well being but it isn't going to fix or prevent any major issues. So I feed the regular platinum performance to both my horses, and my horse with specifically bad joints gets adequan. I think my horses look and act much healthier. I have no issues with them being hot and they love the taste of it. I put it on some sweet feet but only a couple handfuls, just as something to feed it on. I do not feed grain for the health aspect, as platinum takes place of that. A 50b bag of feed now lasts me about a month! I feed it as recommended, 1 scoop 2x/day. Before a barrel race, I'll give 2 scoops instead of 1 (at breakfast). So with 4 scoops a day, the 25lb bucket lasts me actually about 2 months amazingly...even though it calculates out to 42 days. Obviously that's not the case. I think everyone should be on it. Ok maybe not everyone, but a lot of horses needing a complete supplement should be on it. |

Location: Oregon | What about this? I just learned about this over the weekend at a trade show and although I haven't read everything I was given yet, they seemed to make a pretty good arguement. Less expensive too. (Curious if anyone uses this?) http://www.finishlinehorse.com/assets/1/7/TOTAL-CONTROL-plus.pdf |

that's what I used prior to THE and hated it. My horses went from normal coats to very dull and sun burnt. I did like their Feet First supplement and electrolytes (they are sugar free) however THE is a much superior product. From what I have heard, I think the PP is better as well. I had no luck with the Lung Power supplement they have. Just my personal experience. |

| GLP - 2015-02-14 11:39 AM Does PP eliminate the need to add flaxseed/fat supplement for the average horse?
If you feed PP you do not need flax.
You may find that a super hard keeper or geriatric may need an easily digestible fat supplement like extruded rice bran. I would try it first without the extra fat in an easier time of year - like spring - where a horse will be under less environmental stress due to weather.
Just my 2 cents. Seriously, give them a call. Darcy and crew are fantastic to work with and will answer any and all questions. I'm sold on their customer service and products forever. |

Location: Willows, CA | I don't have a dog in this fight, though I have privately formulated flex products for several national companies in the past. Not, however for Platinum. The price is all over the board in this category for several reasons. One is advertising costs for the higher profile labels. But, that is not the only reason. Ingredient quality that effects nutrient availability can very greatly in this catigory. You would also be amazed at how many cut rate supplement suppliers mislead horse owners on just what is in the tub. Platinum has a very good reputation for accurate claims about both quality and quantity of the active ingredients that they sell. I don't use them, but believe that they make what they say that they do. |

THE uses the finest human grade ingredients and what is on the label is in the bag. |

Like I said I have used them all. Used to use THE Muscle Mass and did for about 3years.
Personally I prefer Platinum.
If you are using a supplement that you like, I would say stay with what you like.
I have used Finish Line products but not the Total Control. When it first came out, some horses had some problems. Like I said, I have used them a!l. The only one that I have not used is Exceeed 6 Way.
Like I said if you find something you like stick with it. I have world champion horses and mine will continue to get Platinum because I like it. It does a good job and my horses deserve it. For some reason, I can't see paying $15000 or so on a horse then cutting corners on a supplement. Maybe someone can explain that to me.

Curious if they have a trial or anything I could do? I'm looking at getting my horse on an all in one supplement, but was told by his previous owners that he wouldn't touch Platinum. I'd say I'm a pretty good mixologist when it it comes to disguising things for my horse... But I've not been willing to take the risk yet! Glad to hear that my horse isn't the only one who wouldn't touch it. |

Platinum will send you several sample packets to try out before you purchase. I've used it in the past and thought it was good. Been thinking about putting my horses back on it. |

Location: Got Lobsta? | I've been thinking of adding Platinum products for some time. My horse liked the samples that were given to him so I'm not worried about him eating it. Has anyone heard or tried Smart Combo by Smark Paks? They compare to Plantinum and less expensive but wondering if anyone switched from one to the other?

We use the CJ for our 3 oldest, and they sent us the regular Platinum "power bars" to try on one of our auto ships-----those things look good enough for me to eat! And the company is unbelievable to work with. So I bet if you contacted them they would be helpful. |
