NJJ - 2015-03-02 6:50 PM vjls - 2015-03-02 4:35 PM i would love for her now in te spotlight to promote spinal cord injuries
we need a another chris reeves. he is very lucky her injury is so low that she has so much trunk control In one of her interviews....can't remember which....she stated that she has already done some public speaking regarding her injuries, goals....etc. Additionally, the million of people watching this rodeo now have a new outlook on disabilites and overcoming those obstacles.....kudos to her.....She is truly a remarkable person and inspiration.....And a very worthy person to have a little help given to her.....
yes i know i have been watching her for several years a great role model her mom is really neat
but i was suggesting more in line with like chris reeves or getting with louisville where they are doing wonderous thing.
sci is sucks been there 14 long years i hate to see kds in these chairs Â
Nothing when it comes to medical equipment is inexpensive. I know this all too well, my father was just fortunate enough to be able to afford what he needed. We have spent $250,000 over the years on wheelchairs, special elevators and equipment to allow him to be somewhat self sufficient.
VJLS you have a PM |

Location: Stephenville, Texas | VJLS, quads are my heroes! My husband is a T4 Para. You are right insurance hardly pays for anything. The wheelchair they bought him was a piece of crap. I found a grant to get him a good chair. Insurance would never buy a tank chair like that for anyone. You either have to have fund raisers or have the money to get one. So many expenses that come with a spinal cord injury. Medication & catheters are not cheap.
Amberley handles her injury with such grace. She makes it look easy and living with a sci is not easy. That chair will open so many doors for her. It is wonderful. |

By the way, Don Wasson the bit maker, is a para. He has the best outlook on life. Wonderful person with a wonderful family. |

Location: Friendswood, Texas | I am only speaking for myself when I say that I'm glad to live in a country where I can choose to make a difference in someone's life. Yes, one person could have been a big shot and donated the entire amount needed but many people got to step up, participate, and be a part of something big.... Helping a girl who didn't ask for something felt good. Watching my daughter refresh the Gofundme page and grow in excitement as a goal is realized was priceless. Isn't helping each other the American way? And literally, for the price of a happy meal or box of Girl Scout cookies, my daughter and I got to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. My heart is full. But then again, it's not about me. I just wish I could be in a position to help more people more often. God bless. |

| This is to respond to the skeptical person regarding Amberley.
She does motivational speeches to high school kids for sure, she came up to Alberta and spoke at the high school rodeo finals, I spoke to one of the moms there, she said the room was dead silent, all attention on Amberley. (We all know it is hard to keep the attention span of a group of teenagers)
Amberley also took time out of her day and met with a child who recently became a quad it was a horse accident, this really lifted his spirits.
As for expenses, my brother is a parapalegic, I live in Canada so our health care is free and some supplies are as well. As for spinal research, I believe the USA isn't allowed to use stem cells yet. My family spent over 30k overseas in stem cell treatment.
The equipment to maintain his function is expensive, and are considered luxury items, including lifts, winches, ramps, hand controls for vehicles
Anything medical is expensive, and I am guessing her health care premiums are higher then the average person as para/quads are more suseptible to certain infections.
I can see how a family with a good income cannot afford to purchase this wheelchair at this time.
It has been 8 years, and my family still has a list of things to purchase, it is not feasible to purchase it all at once, and Amberley is still a fairly recent parapalegic, who has done so much for others and herself by posting wheelchair Wednesday.
Such an amazing lady, glad the horse community is getting together to make this a reality. |

God bless you and prayers for your continued ability to keep positive. I am an above the knee amputee, and even though it is SO hard to do things for my horses by myself, I cannot imagine not being able to do it at all. By the grace of God I take one day at a time and one chore at a time. My boyfriend and my son do the things I'm unable to physically handle (don't know what in the world I'd do without them), but I feel each day is a blessing and there but for the grace of God anyone could be in our place. Vjls, You're an inspiration to people you probably don't even realize you touch. .. . |
