Happens a lot nowadays in all sports and even work relationships. Sad people and very small minded. Isn't this the truth.
JMO...This all comes from that as a nation in whole we aren't happy with all the BS going on around us and it's a way to vent even though it has nothing to do with our frustrations.Â
If you disagree with this administration you are a racist. If you are upset with all the BS Hillary is hiding you are called a sexist. I yearn for the America that I grew up in. If you were a POS...that is what you were and no one blamed it on someone else. I don't believe it is a sign of the times or because of the country. Listen to Charmayne James tell you about how she was treated when she first started running. Try to be someone new going to the barrel races when you didn't grow up with it. I finally found people who would help me. I started back in the late 80 ' s and still have lots of questions, but few who won't bash me or laugh. I believe it is simply those who choose to be nasty.

I will say..I'm a huge fan of DTF Way Ta Fire and he is my favorite out of the awesome group of horses they own.
That's a good way to put it. I have no problem seeing centrifugal force slinging someone off a horse that can turn like that. |

| I have seen the Cheoust kids run a lot and the announcer usually says they have not been running barrels very long. Does anyone know if they came from a different dicipline like cutting, reining or dressage? I know they both use a "magic seat" but I assume they already know how to sit a horse pretty well already. Just curious because I don't much about the duo. |

I was rodeoing when she came on to the scene. I watched her go from a novice horsewoman to a great horsewoman.
Everyone starts at ground zero and I will say the things she did back when she started, she certainly doesn't do anymore.
I don't think there are very many competitive sports that go out of their way to help others nor do they welcome newbies. The 5-D system barrel races are more friendly and helpful as for most it's a hobby.
This isn't Max's first big win. He has many of those under his belts and has been a competitor to reckon with for at least a few years. |

| Magic seat or not, you have to be a jockey to ride Sporty, and that's what max is.
There are few adults who could ride such a powerful, ROUGH horse. There is nothing QUIET about Sporty.
And for those asking about his magic seat, I think it just needs to be dropped.
max Chouest is a 12year old boy who not only just broke HIS PREVIOUS ddbhc arena record, but also donated $10,000 of his winnings from that one run to K9s4cops. How many adults could say they'd do that? Fallon Taylor and The winning pony team also donated their winnings back last night.
Hats off to these amazing kids who choose SAFETY!! |

Oh my gosh- I did not know he was a 12 year old! So now I finally understand how this thread got off course and I feel partly responsible for that. Yikes..... so sorry Max!!! I'll be creeping quietly away now...... apologies!!

Location: Home on the Range | I just ordered one and FYI they do Not call them Magic Seats. Maybe they used to, but they are Now called SURE GRIP SADDLE SEATS. I like that name better! Supreme "Sure Grip" Saddle Seat Alternative Views:

The Sure Grip Seat is designed to add security and balance in the saddle for those hard running and quick turning horses, novice riders and young riders . Seat and leg straps come together as a set--order Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large or Extra Large. Size is determined by leg straps. To determine proper size, measure around upper thigh. Attaches to saddle and around thigh with velcro straps and fits most barrel saddles. |

I saw this when I did a search. I feel I can ride but my horses are leaving me coming out of the barrels. |

Location: NC | Magic Seat or Sure Grip or Granny Grabber. All the same thing. And I don't think he was making a statement, to be honest. Neither of them wear one on the "slower" horses they run, but I've both of them wearing magic seats on their 1D power houses. I think it's regular thing for both of them.
I really don't care for the things. I tried it. I didn't like it. Didn't help me keep my seat. It actually hindered me. The straps kept me from getting my feet forward where I needed them. I did WORSE in it so I ditched it. It's not a cure all by any means.
I still don't like seeing super little itty bitty kids in them without someone close by to snatch them off. I've seen an 8 year old come out of her saddle while wearing one so I know they aren't THAT sticky. But I don't think the super small kids would be turned loose as easily.
Great run by Max. They have a whole mess of nice horses that they get to run. Lucky kids for sure.

If you order from Josey's, they are Sure Grips. If you order from anywhere else they are still Magic Seats. I ordered mine from the Tack Stop probably 4 years ago. Didn't realize at the time that Josey's had them. I have bought new straps from Josey's. I only use it on one horse. Don't need it on the others. By the way, Martha still uses one if she runs. |

Location: In my own little world | Kudos to Max for setting the record. My statement actually has nothing to do with him but rather the magic seat. What bothers me about the fact that these have now really been brought to the forefront from the "support for bullying" setting an arena record or whatever the reason for use, it has brought a lot of attn to them.
I saw a post on facebook page today and it is things like this parent said that really bother me more than anything. They thanked FT for her stance and then said she would be getting her young daughter a magic seat because they just got her a step up horse that has so much more power and the little girl is having trouble staying in the saddle and with the horse and she sure hoped no one would be bullying her little girl. Umm, did it ever occur to her that maybe this horse is too much of a step up and she needs a safer horse at this point and isn't ready to be turned loose on a horse of that caliber? Now I don't know the people, their situation and so I am making some assumptions here but dang I hate to see comments like this. Basically doing whatever it takes to be a winner and to me that is not a wise choice, or rather lets just say a choice I wouldn't feel comfortable making. There are already too many little one's that are overmounted and it scares the bejeezes out of me as a producer when a horse takes off, out of control, circles the arena with the kid hanging on for dear life screaming the entire time. A magic seat is not going to be the solution for this!
OK, now back to the Choust kids. Seems they must be able to ride good horses so this is certainly not their case in choosing to wear these. |

They certainly can be misused with small children. |

| I am a Senior rider, and it's not so much that it holds you in more that it holds you more steady, so that if you have one that leaves a little quick, and it might otherwise take you a minute to get set back, this let's you stay with the horse better. For example, him reaching back to get that 2nd barrel, he may not have been able to do that without the magic seat/gripper, grabber whatever you call it.
I don't ride with one now on the horse I'm on, but I had one I did ride with....I slowed down in the middle of a run once, and someone asked me what happened, and I said, well, if we'd kept going at that speed I was probably going to be on on the ground!
As for getting out of them, it's easier than you think, I'd dismount regularly all the time, forgetting I had them. They just give you that little extra grip you need in quick situations.
Congrats to the great horse and rider! |

Just in case you did not notice, it was his sister they were bullying. Also, in case you did not listen, he broke the arena record. That is a lot better than I could do and I am sure better than most of you too. It does not make any difference if he was riding with a bareback pad, he crossed the finish line in the shortest amount of time.
