Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | Look at it this way. People have a fight or flight response to perceived danger, just like animals do. If you thought someone was about to do something bad to you, how many of you would stand quietly and allow it to happen? I'm sure the dude thought running was the safer course of action. A lot of black folks and even some of other races are raised being told that the cops are something to fear and are out to get them. It's ingrained by adulthood. He wasn't thinking, he was reacting to perceived danger and if I was a police person, I had way rather someone run than try to kill me. The officer in this video had no business in this profession, and people like him are what makes it so hard for the good guys to do their jobs. We can't tolerate this stuff or we will all be in danger. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I just heard that this is not the first time the shot man had a run in with this officer. The first time was 2 years ago.. I hope that I heard this right.
Edit to ad: the shot man was scared of this officer too, so maybe thats why he ran from him.

I honestly think BETTER back ground checks and personality tests should be conducted for hiring law enforcement. Also more schooling on the law. I think there are cops that take advantage our their thought "power" and think their invisible. It didn't even seem to faze that cop when he shot that man. I know many great cops, but I know in a small town like mine...not a lot of thorough screening is done. It more comes down to who you know. I have a friend with PTSD from serving that honestly, I don't think he should be a cop from behavior ive seen out of him. Just saying. Better screening for people we are allowing to conduct the law. KNOW the laws and what to do in a situation. That is all.
And no disrespect toward people that are cops! I don't envy your job and many are wonderful.
Although what is being posted about is an EXTREME to this. It comes down to KNOWING the law. As an officer arrests a fireman while proving patient care, comprising a patient. Which is against the law.

| I saw the video several times before it was taken down. That cop screwed up!!
Now two families have lost a father/husband...and this certainly does not help in the case of the social outrage we are experiencing due to incidences like this. |

I don't find it funny people being in danger because some officers aren't property trained and screened. To each their own I suppose. |

Location: wherever my daughter's running | Officers dashcam video.http://www.wspa.com/story/28744997/sc-officer-shoots-kills-man-who-was-running-awayIt does not make shooting someone in the back right. But hopefully people will realize it is best not to try to escape. He was stopped for a broken tail light. Did not have insurance on the car and no registration. Officer seemed calm and pretty respectful during all of this. Then the man runs. Family says cause there was a bench warrant for his failure to pay child support. Now his family is suing the police department saying it won't bring him back, but will provide for his children. Find that ironic. I take it these are the same children he was not paying child support to. But he claims he was buying the Benz he ran from. Priorities, priorities, priorities. Yes the media is reporting his service in the coast guard most are not reporting it was two years and he was discharged because of drugs. Riots - you bet. Today law enforcement lined the Ravenel Bridge because protesters were going to stop traffic during rush hour. Stir the pot for what? Officer arrested, charged with murder and is locked up. This is not being swept under the rug by the police or government in this city. Yet the race baiters run rampant. There are certainly no winners in this tragedy Including the officer's wife who is 8 months pregnant.

If it wasnt all caught on video it would indeed be swept under the rug, business as usual. |

Thats how I feel.. it was wrong, the man running wasnt in the right.. the cop was wrong.. it is done... but we have to make a HUGE ordeal over this because it was a Black guy and white cop... period.......................................would everyone being discussing and making a huge ordeal over it if it was white on white ? i wonder... everything now that happens.. the goal is to make it appear racism at its finest to just cause that much more divided people.. and that much more reason for the "mouthy nothing to do look at me " rioters..whom most dont even know WHY they are holding that sign .. |

| This time, I'm on their side. I'll hold the sign and know why. Although, again, I think that cop would have shot regardless of color.
Forget the gun...put down your EGO and let him run. |

So I just saw this video.
Related to original post. But it's the first half, before the man runs off the officers dash cam. Still not worth to shooting him or anyone... But the man wasn't very smart

| Based on everything that I have seen and read on this it is murder period. The officer had zero justification to even take a shot at him. I commend SC. on their swift action. |

| Transcript from above video...
Kennewick, WA — A disturbing yet incredibly revealing video was uploaded to YouTube recently which shows an alleged Kennewick police officer admit to a slew of misdeeds.
The video starts out with the officer proclaiming how stopping these teenagers on the last day of the month, just helped him reach his quota.
“This is the last day of the month. I get every stat I need just off of you guys,” says the officer as he begins his rights violating confession.
“So you guys gotta make quota, huh?” asks the detained teen. “We don’t have a quota. We have expectations. And what that means is, you will make so many arrests a month, you should write so many tickets a month, and you should haul so many dumbasses to jail a month. If we’re gonna pay you $100,000 a year, we should expect something back from you, shouldn’t we?” says the officer.
When the man replies, ‘yes’ that he understands what the officer just said, the cop then asks, “Would you like to be part of my quota tonight?”
The young man then asks the cop, “On what grounds [would you arrest me]?”
To which the cop replies, “‘On what grounds?’ Oh, I don’t know, I’ll think of something. How about aiding and abetting reckless driving?”
The officer basically admits that he will simply make up any charges he wants, just to make an arrest.
“Fair enough,” says the man, trying to prevent himself from being kidnapped by this officer for no reason. “You better wipe that smile off your face brother, or I’ll show ya,” says the officer.
It doesn’t stop there, this officer then exposes himself for the true power-tripping tyrant that he is.
“Now, let me tell you what the difference between being a smart guy and a dumbass is. You sit there with that ****-eating grin on your face, let me see some id!” says the tyrant officer.
The young man then replies as he’s going to show the officer his ID, “It’s cool I got a clean record.”
That’s when the officer becomes brutally honest about how he can abuse his power to ruin innocent lives. The officer replies, “Yeah, but you know what? I’m the guy that can make that record look dirty.”
At this point the officer then admits how the entire system is funded through this type of shakedown and extortion racket.
“You are a guy that’s gonna end up giving the city a lot of money,” says the officer explaining how the state aggressively pursues poor people to pay their exorbitant salaries.
The officer then proceeds to massively flex his authority as the teen isn’t bowing down fast enough, screaming, “Shut up! Shut up!”
The teen filming then asks the officer for his name, to which the officer yells, “Be Quiet! Or you’ll have my name on a police report and your ass will be on the way to juvi for aiding and abetting! Understand that?”
To top it all off, the officer then attacks the teen’s First Amendment right, by telling him that he did not give him permission to film. “I didn’t give you permission!” says the officer as he yanks the phone from the teen’s hand.
The video then ends. Let’s make this officer, who makes $100,000 a year to harass innocent people, internet famous.

Common Sense and then some

I would hope that we would make a big deal out of this, regardless of the races of those involved. This was abuse of power, with the most horrific outcome... All over a broken tail light? Then LEO officers LIED on their police reports (video tells a different story). And more than one LEO lied on the official police report(s), what the h e l l does that tell us? Blue code of silience? Fellow officers protecting their own even when murder is involved? THAT is what scares the crap out of me.
I see the quick response (less than a week after the shooting) by SC LE as hopeful sign.
Prayers for the victims family. |
